Racing championship: Bengaluru lads steal the show in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Bengaluru lads dominated the first round of the 28th JK Tyre Racing Championship, with Anish Shetty finishing first in the GT Cup, while his state mate Bhuvan Bonu took the center podium in the Novice Cup. The racing championship was held at the Kari Motor Speedway in the district this weekend. The two-day event saw 24 riders in the GT Cup (bike) and 27 racers in the Novice Cup (car). In the JK Tyre Novice Cup, Bhuvan Bonu, a 15-year-old boy from Bengaluru who trains in the USA, effortlessly stole the first round. After his podium finish, he said, "I kept getting better and better. I enjoyed the weekend." Ojas Surve and Abhijit Vadavalli finished the race in the second and third positions, respectively. In the professional category of the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup, another Bengaluru man, Anish Shetty, who has been riding bikes since the age of 15, showcased his masterclass on the track, winning a hat-trick this weekend. "It has been a fruitful weekend, and all the hard work paid off," he said. Kayan Zubin completed the first round in the second position, while the defending champion Navaneeth Kumar finished third. In the category of amateurs, Bryan Nicholas from Pondicherry was just too good as he won all three races and stood tall on the podium, while Johring Warisa and Kabir Sahoch were placed in the second and third places, respectively. Anish Shetty and Bhuvan Bonu put up dominating show
Coimbatore, Aug 10 (PTI) Seasoned rider Anish Shetty completed a hat-trick of wins in the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup while teenager Bhuvan Bonu emerged winner in the Novice Cup as Round 1 of the JK Tyre Racing Championship concluded here Sunday. The GT Cup grid is a mix between the seasoned riders and novices. Anish showed that the rich field belonged to him. Defending champion Navaneeth Kumar bounced back to second place while Kayan Zubin Patel was also impressive. In the standings, Anish is way ahead with 30 points. Kayan is at 19 points and Navaneeth at 12 points. 'It has been a fruitful weekend and all the hard work paid off," said Anish. In the Novice Cup, Bhuvan was too fast for the rest of the field. The 15-year-old from Bengaluru, who trains in the United States of America pushed his car effortlessly. JK Tyre Racing season 2025 set to roar into action in Coimbatore
Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu)[India], August 8 (ANI): The adrenaline is set to rise as JK Tyre's racing season 2025 kicks off this weekend at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore on Saturday. The opening round promises thrilling on-track battles, as racers aim to make a strong start in the Novice Cup and the Continental GT Cup. With entries from across the country, from Jammu, Delhi, Sikkim, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, the stage is set for an exciting weekend of racing. For two-wheeler enthusiasts, the Continental GT Cup promises high-speed drama with its unique Pro-Am format, where amateur and professional riders compete together. After a nationwide talent hunt- 'Street to Track", Royal Enfield held zonal selection rounds across North, South, East & West zones. A total of 64 amateur riders were selected from these zonal selections, who then joined 50 professional riders for the final selection round. At the end of the selection process, 24 of the fastest riders in Amateur and Pro each will race. The selected riders will now ride identical, race-tuned Continental GT-R650S. Now in its fifth year, the GT Cup continues to grow in popularity and intensity. The Novice Cup, introduced in 2018 as part of JKNRC, features Indian-made Formula cars and is considered the most sought-after entry-level single-seater category in the country, ideal for amateurs starting out in formula racing. The grid this year comprises of 27 racers representing five professional teams namely – Bangalore based Team Avalanche Racing (owned by ex-racer Fazal Malik), Team M-Sport (owned by international racing star Armaan Ebrahim), Team DTS Racing (owned by former national racing champion Diljith TS), Team Momentum Motorsport (owned by ex-racer Rasheed Khan) and Team Delta Speeds (owned by racing driver Mohit Aryan). The valuable experience of the team principals, combined with the passion and energy of these young drivers, is sure to make the races exciting and competitive. The 2025 season will witness 10 races of the Novice Cup and eight races of the RE GT Cup spread across three rounds, all scheduled to take place in Coimbatore.
