Nozipho Chapi, the Westrand Marathon administrator, stated that for the fourth year, the annual marathon kicked off with a bang.
At 06:00 all the runners were warmed up and ready to go. Over 2 205 runners gathered at the starting line at Greenhills Stadium to compete in the half marathon. Runners had a choice between the 5km, 10km and 21.2km distances.
The aim behind the marathon was to provide a platform for runners in the region to test their endurance and for the community to come together and promote health and fitness,' said Nozipho.
He mentioned the runners with the best times were Sbusiso Mzima and Lebo Mzazi for the 10km. Mokhomo Tiisetso and Cornelia Joubert finished with the best times for the 21.2km distance.
'The Westrand Marathon was more than just a race; it was a celebration of community, health and the incredible things that can be achieved when individuals and organisations work together towards a common goal. The narrative of this year's marathon is one of successful planning, dedicated execution, and the enduring spirit of the West Rand.
It sets a high bar for future events and serves as an inspiration for what can be accomplished through strong partnerships and a shared vision,' said Nozipho.
