Mysuru railway division launches fortnight-long green drive to tackle plastic pollution

The Mysuru Railway Division of South Western Railway launched a fortnight-long green drive on Thursday with focus on reducing the menace of plastic pollution. The two-week long drive will culminate on June 5, marking World Environment Day, the theme for which is 'Combating Plastic Pollution', which is also the focus of the green drive. The railway authorities said the initiative aims to spread awareness and encourage active participation from railway staff, passengers, and the general public in reducing plastic use and embracing sustainable practices. Activities are being conducted across major stations including Mysuru, Davangere, Shivamogga Town, and Arsikere, according to the authorities who said that the key highlights include awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives, workshops, installation of plastic bottle crushing machines, street plays (Nukkad Nataks), school outreach programmes, and promotion of eco-friendly alternatives. The celebrations will conclude at Vontikoppal Railway Colony, Mysuru, with a valedictory ceremony, which will be attended by Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal. The event will feature the distribution of plants to railway families and achievements from the drive will be showcased, and outstanding contributions by individuals and stations will be honoured, the authorities said.

Indian Railways features Operation Sindoor ‘tribute' on e-tickets and stations

Indian Railways is featuring messaging related to 'Operation Sindoor', conducted by the Indian armed forces, on its e-tickets along with a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Ministry of Railways spokesperson said on Monday (May 19, 2025). The message on the e-tickets reads, 'Operation Sindoor has drawn a new line in the fight against terror… a new standard, a new normal has been set.' 'Featuring this messaging related to Operation Sindoor on e-tickets is our way of saluting the brave hearts of the Indian Army,' the spokesperson added. The messaging is also being highlighted on the Railways' ticket booking platform, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website. The platform is currently streaming a documentary film featuring footage from the conflicts in Uri, Pulwama, and Pahalgam. The documentary also includes silent scenes of Prime Minister Modi holding meetings with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and others. 'The documentary has been shared by the Ministry of Defence and we are running it on the IRCTC platform,' the pokesperson said. Additionally, around 200 railway stations have been illuminated in tricolour shades to commemorate 'Operation Sindoor.' The Railways have announced that designated seats on platforms and waiting rooms will be reserved for soldiers. 'Different organisations related to Railways organised Prabhat Pheris, Tiranga Yatras and Nukkad Nataks or street plays to pay tribute to our soldiers,' the spokesperson said. In a related development, SpiceJet has directed its pilots to make inflight announcements honouring the 'extraordinary courage and sacrifice of our brave soldiers during Operation Sindoor, who are also hailed as the pride of the nation'.
