MELAKA: A former administrative manager of a Melaka government-linked company was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly abusing his position to recommend his wife for the firms fire insurance purchase. The 44-year-old man was arrested around 2.15pm yesterday while giving his statement at the Melaka MACC office. He was brought to the Ayer Keroh Magistrates Court today, where Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin allowed a two-day remand until tomorrow. The MACC is investigating the case under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. The suspect allegedly recommended his wife for the companys fire insurance purchase about four years ago. Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested four individuals, including three committee members of a non-governmental organisation (NGO), on suspicion of conspiring to misappropriate funds belonging to the NGO where they work. According to a source, the suspects—two men and two women in their 30s—were arrested between 4 pm and 7 pm yesterday when they came to give their statements at the MACC office in Melaka. 'Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were believed to have committed the offence between 2015 and 2025. They are suspected of conspiring with the NGO chairman, who abused power and misappropriated funds for personal gain,' the source said. Following the arrests, the MACC seized RM900,000 in cash, jewellery, nine land lots located in Melaka, Penang and Selangor, and four residential units in Melaka. Fourteen accounts—eight belonging to individuals and six to companies—with a total balance of about RM5 million were also frozen. Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin today granted a seven-day remand order until next Tuesday for all suspects, following an application made by the MACC at the Melaka Magistrate's Court. Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim, when contacted, confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

MELAKA: A 62-year-old man has been remanded for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Tengkera here. The seven-day remand order until April 30 against the suspect was issued by Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin when the suspect was brought to court here on Thursday (April 24). The remand allows police to continue investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. According to a source, the incident took place at 7am on April 21 when the victim had gone alone to dispose of garbage at the refuse area of an apartment building in Tengkera here. The victim was making her way back up the stairs to her home when she encountered the suspect, who lives on the second floor of the building. It is believed that the suspect had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim, who fought him off. The victim sought help from the apartment's security guards, one of whom informed her mother. The 45-year-old proceeded to lodge a police report on Wednesday (April 23) Police investigations later revealed that the incident had been captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera. Meanwhile, Melaka Tengah OCPD Assistant Comm Christopher Patit, when contacted, confirmed the police report.
