Beatdown caught on video: 'Bella' among eight plead guilty to assault, death threats

JOHOR BARU: A 22-year-old woman was among eight people who pleaded guilty at the magistrate's court here today to criminal intimidation by issuing a death threat, group assault, and wrongful confinement of a man last week. Nuredrianna Balqqisyh Anabella Norazman, also known as 'Bella', and the seven others made the plea when all three charges were read to them before Magistrate Atifah Azimah Wahab. The others were identified as Muhammad Aqmal Hafifi Mustafa Kamal, 25; Ahmad Rushdi Jumadi, 23; Muhammad Nur Shafiq Abdullah, 25; Muhammad Haikal Zulkarnain, 19; Mohamad Amierul Hakim Shamsuri, 23; Mohamad Danish Hakim Kamaruddin, 20; and Syamsul Hamiziey Saiful Razali, 19. According to the first charge, the eight people, including Nuredrianna Balqqisyh Anabella were accused of jointly causing criminal intimidation against 22-year-old Muhammad Faris Syahmi Mohd Ridzwan by issuing a death threat with the intention of frightening the victim. For the second charge, all eight individuals, along with two others still at large, were jointly charged with extortion by instilling fear in the victim, threatening to continue beating him until he agreed to pay RM3,000. This led the victim to hand over RM650 and the keys to his motorcycle to Mohammad Amierul Hakim. According to the third charge, all eight individuals, along with the two others still at large, were jointly charged with wrongful confinement of the victim. Meanwhile, all of the male accused, along with another still at large, also pleaded guilty to a fourth charge of intentionally causing hurt to the victim. All eight individuals pleaded guilty to committing the offences at an apartment in Plentong, Masai, between 10pm on April 18 and 4am the following day. For the first to third charges, all the accused were charged under Section 506, Section 384, and Section 342 of the Penal Code, while the fourth charge was under Section 323 of the same Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Johor prosecution director Abdul Ghafar Ab Latif as well as deputy public prosecutors Nik Nuraini Nik Azman and Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam prosecuted. All of the accused were represented by lawyers from the National Legal Aid Foundation Norfarahin Mohd Yazid and T. Nadarajan. Earlier, Abdul Ghafar proposed that the court set bail at RM10,000 with one surety for each of the charges. "This means that all seven male accused are proposed to pay a total bail of RM40,000 for the four charges, while the total proposed bail for Bella is RM30,000 for the three charges," he said. Norfarahin requested leniency on the grounds that three of the accused, including Bella, are unemployed, while the others are working in factories or as a club worker, with monthly earnings ranging between RM1,200 and RM2,000. "Bella lives with her parents and suffers from asthma," she said. The magistrate later fixed bail at RM16,000 with one surety for each of the male accused and RM14,000 with one surety for Bella. The court also fixed June 3 for mention and sentencing. Previously, several video clips went viral on social media showing a young man limping after being beaten by a group of men in a house in Johor.
