Magistrate Nurul Azuin Talhah ordered K Selva Natchathiram, 56, to serve his jail term from the date of his arrest on May 29, Sinar Harian reported. Selva was charged with riding his bicycle without due care and attention, leading to an accident in front of a supermarket in Taman Desa Anggerik, Seremban, at about 2.55pm on March 27, 2024. He was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, read with Section 54(1) of the same Act which is punishable by a fine of RM1,000 to RM5,000 or up to 12 months in jail upon conviction. The accused, who was unrepresented, asked to be jailed instead of fined, saying he worked as a security guard and could not afford the penalty. Deputy public prosecutor P Rubini urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence. According to the case facts, the cyclist travelling from Ampangan to Senawang was making a right turn at a junction when he crashed into a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The motorcyclist, aged 28, died at the scene from head injuries. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
