Malaysian girl recalls father's dream message before 6 bodies found in submerged car

The sole surviving member of a family of seven who drowned when their car plunged into a river in Kedah last week has recalled seeing her father in a dream, telling her not to be sad, in a tragedy that has gripped Malaysia. Putri Qisya Nur Izzat, 12, had stayed behind at her grandmother's house on the day of the accident. She recounted on Monday dreaming of her father, 32-year-old Mohamad Azim Izat Ishak, who told her he could only watch over her from afar. 'Dad said, don't be sad or I won't be at peace,' she told reporters. 'When I woke up, I found out they had found the vehicle and everyone was gone.' Putri Qisya's six family members, including her nine-month-old baby brother, were returning home on Friday when they were reported missing the next morning. Their sedan was discovered on Monday submerged in the seven-metre-deep (22 feet) Korok River in Jitra district, just a metre from the riverbank. Ahmad Aminuddin Abd Rahim, a senior fire and rescue officer, said authorities received calls from the public who spotted the car floating in the river on Monday. Rescuers had to break the vehicle's windows and cut open the roof to retrieve the bodies, all found packed in the back seat, indicating the family could have been trying to escape through the rear window. Speaking stoically in front of press cameras at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Putri Qisya also recalled her mother, 31-year-old Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, once giving her the same advice – to be strong as the eldest child so her siblings would not feel sad seeing her sorrow.

‘Don't be sad', father tells daughter in dream following family's tragic death when Iswara sank into Kedah river

ALOR SETAR, July 7 — 'I dreamt my late father told me not to be sad,' said Putri Qisya Nur Izzat, 12, the eldest child of a family of six who perished after their car plunged into Sungai Korok in Jitra last Saturday. Putri Qisya was the sole survivor of her immediate family, having stayed behind at her grandmother's home in Jerlun, while her parents and younger siblings travelled without her on the day of the incident. Her parents, Muhammad Azim Izat Ishak, 32, and Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, 31, along with their children, Putra Rayyan Nur Izzat, 9, Hawa Adriana Nur Izzat, 8, Annayla Humaira Nur Izzat, 7, and six-month-old Tuah Haydar, were reported missing after their vehicle veered off the road and into the river. The bodies were recovered today, bringing a tragic end to the search. Speaking at the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here, Putri Qisya said the family had planned to visit an aunt in Taman Seri Aman, Jitra, as part of a regular weekend routine. However, she chose not to join them this time. 'At first, I wanted to go, but at the last minute, I felt tired and decided not to. One of my siblings even tried to persuade me, but I still said no,' she said, holding back tears. Upon learning that her family had gone missing, she joined others in searching the area along the river, but her efforts ended in heartbreak. Grief overwhelms family and friends at the site of the incident in Sungai Korok, near Jitra. — Bernama pic Describing a dream she had early this morning, Putri Qisya said her father appeared to her wearing the same jersey he had worn the day he left. 'I was lying on his lap. He told me not to be sad because he couldn't take care of me anymore. My mother and siblings were also there in the dream,' she said. 'At around 8 am, I woke up suddenly and went to the front of the house. My grandmother and aunt tried to comfort me, saying they would look after me and that I wouldn't be alone.' She also recalled a moment earlier this year when her youngest sibling, Jebat Haydar, died in February. 'Back then, my mother told me not to be sad because it was only my baby brother who had left, not her. She even said, 'If we are meant to go, we'll all go together so that we won't trouble anyone',' said Putri Qisya. — Bernama

Mystery deepens as family of six disappears after overnight stay in Kedah on Saturday

ALOR SETAR, July 7 — A family of six, including a six-month-old baby, are feared missing after their family members lost contact with them since Saturday. The disappearance of Mohd Azim Ezzat Ishak, 32, his wife Nurul Hidayah Khalijah Razman Effendy, 31, and their four children, aged between six months and nine years, was realised when they did not return to their home in Jerlun after spending the night at another family member's house in Taman Aman, Jitra. According to Mohd Azim Ezzat's younger sister, Nur Adliah Shuhada, in her 20s, her brother's family usually spent the night at her house on Fridays. 'I thought they had returned to Jerlun because my brother, who works as a security guard, usually leaves early in the morning, and my sister-in-law runs a business. But when my brother's mother-in-law called and said they hadn't arrived home, I started to worry and tried to contact them but failed. 'Then I received information about a Proton Saga car in Sungai Korok (in Jitra), but the licence plate number did not match my brother's car,' she said here. Nur Adliah Shuhada said that a police report has been lodged at the Jitra Police Station regarding the disappearance of her brother and his family. 'I also posted about their disappearance on Facebook, and as of 10.30 pm tonight, they still haven't been located,' she added. Meanwhile, Kubang Pasu District Police Chief Supt Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim confirmed that they have received a report regarding the disappearance of the couple and their four children. — Bernama

Ex-shop assistant fined RM100 for shaming woman's appearance online

KUALA LUMPUR: A former shop assistant was fined the maximum RM100 by the magistrate's court today for publicly humiliating a woman over her appearance during a livestream earlier this month, in what was described as an act of revenge. The court was told that Nurul Hidayah Yusuf, 23, admitted to the offence, saying she wanted to get back at Nur Ain Suraya Yapri Kamaruzaman, 24, who had allegedly accused her of theft. During the livestream, Nurul Hidayah displayed photographs of Nur Ain without permission, using them as the backdrop while making disparaging remarks about her appearance with and without makeup. Pleading for leniency as she was unrepresented, Nurul Hidayah told the court, "I ask for a minimal fine as I have been terminated from my job". Deputy public prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence, considering the circumstances. Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhammad Dan imposed the RM100 fine, with a two-day jail term in default, after Nurul Hidayah pleaded guilty to the charge. The offence was committed at about 10.51am at a condominium unit in Sentul on April 5. The charge, framed under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, provides for a maximum fine of RM100. According to the facts of the case, Nur Ain had received screen recordings of the livestream in which she was ridiculed over her appearance. Feeling humiliated, she lodged a police report at the Sentul police station. Subsequent investigations revealed that Nurul Hidayah had deliberately gone live on TikTok to shame Nur Ain in retaliation for the theft allegation.
