Jobless man pleads not guilty to armed robbery at Langkawi jewellery store
LANGKAWI: A jobless man pleaded not guilty in the Magistrates' Court here today to a charge of robbing a jewellery store in Kuah town with a machete last week.
M. Kumar, 45, entered the plea after the charge was read to him by a court interpreter before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.
According to the charge sheet, Kumar is accused of committing armed robbery against a senior citizen, Muhammad Abdullah, 69, by stealing a gold bracelet weighing 29.62 grammes at about 11.48am on June 19.
The charge is framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and may also involve a fine or whipping upon conviction.
The court fixed July 1 for mention of the case at the Sessions Court here to hear the accused's bail application.
Deputy public prosecutor Aqlima Azizi appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
