Man gets two years' jail for assaulting wife
SEREMBAN: A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in jail for assaulting his wife. The father of five did not contest the charge after it was read to him before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli on Tuesday (Aug 19). He was charged with committing the offence at around 1pm on June 6 at their home in Lenggeng near here. The charge was brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, read together with Section 326A. The offence carries a jail term of up to one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. Section 326A provides for a prison term twice as long as the maximum term under Section 323. K. Kogilawani from the Legal Aid Department, who represented the accused, pleaded for a light sentence as he was an odd-job worker and had to provide for his children, one of whom has special needs. According to the facts of the case, the victim suffered swelling on her body after she was assaulted. Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi asked the court to impose punishment commensurate with the offence.

Cook charged with murdering wife's lover
SEREMBAN: A cook has been charged with the fatal stabbing of his wife's 28-year-old lover. No plea was recorded from the 31-year-old accused after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli here on Tuesday (Aug 19). The father of two young children was charged with stabbing Muhammad Amirul Rashid Mohd Niza in the chest at a house in Taman Seri Pagi at 6.50pm on Aug 11. The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder carries a possible death sentence, or between 30 and 40 years' jail with at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi asked the court for a next mention date as the chemist's, post-mortem and DNA test reports were not ready. Magistrate Nurul Saqinah then fixed Oct 17 for mention of the case. The court did not offer bail. A relative of the accused, when met after the proceeding, appealed to social media users to stop commenting on the case as it was now a court matter. It was reported earlier that a suspect was arrested in connection with the stabbing. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect committed the alleged act after discovering his wife's affair. They added that the suspect had no criminal record and tested negative for drugs.

MACC gets three-day remand extension on land broker in RM3.8mil graft probe
SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a remand extension from the Magistrate's Court here on a broker suspected of using a land title with falsified details to obtain RM3.8mil, the proceeds of a land sale. On Monday (Aug 11), Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli allowed an application from the MACC to remand the suspect, in his 40s, for a further three days. The suspect was initially under remand from Aug 5 until today. He was detained on Aug 4 when he turned up at the MACC office here to give his statement on the matter. The land, in Lenggeng near here, belonged to another individual. When contacted at the time of the suspect's arrest, Negri Sembilan MACC chief Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the investigation under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

Duo fined RM10,000 each for controlling bank accounts of 90 people
SEREMBAN: Two men were each fined RM10,000, in default 12 months in jail, by the Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday (Aug 6) after pleading guilty to a charge of possessing and controlling the bank accounts of 90 people without lawful authority or purpose. Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli meted out the fine on Lim Jiunn Liang, 28, and Justine Chung Yin Wei, 25. The two men were charged with committing the offence at a car park near a bank here at 9.50am on July 29 this year. Based on the facts of the case, they were arrested by a police team from the Operational Intelligence Division of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the Negeri Sembilan Police Contingent Headquarters through a Special Op against online scam. Also seized in the operation were a Honda City car, 90 ATM cards from various banks, six mobile phones of various brands, a Malaysian passport and 22 pieces of RM50 banknotes. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi appeared for the prosecution, while Lim and Chung were represented by lawyer K. Tharani. — Bernama
