Labrador Steals a Chili—His 'Furious' Reaction is Everything

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A Labrador who stole a red chili has left the internet in hysterics with his horrified reaction when he tried to eat it. Dogs are very curious beings, and they often like to sink their teeth into things they shouldn't. That was certainly the case for Archie the Labrador, who thought he'd found a delicious red snack—only to discover it was in fact a chili pepper. Archie's owner shared a hilarious video on TikTok (@bobbyfromthebin) on May 5, showing the Labrador laying on his bed with the chili in front of him. As he attempted to bite into the chili, Archie instantly appeared to regret his decision. He started to bare his teeth and repeatedly paw at the inexplicably spicy food. Indeed, he snapped his teeth towards the chili several times but thankfully he wasn't quite brave enough to actually try and eat it. A stock image of a Labrador puppy looking guiltily at the camera. A stock image of a Labrador puppy looking guiltily at the camera. josephgruber/Getty Images Archie's hilarious reaction has delighted internet users, leading to more than 644,100 views and over 54,000 likes on TikTok at the time of writing. The caption alongside the video joked: "He stole a chili and now he's furious." Archie's attempt to eat the chili certainly led to an unforgettable reaction, but generally speaking, pets shouldn't eat anything spicy. As explained by Hill's Pet Nutrition, spicy food can be toxic for dogs and can lead to excessive thirst or even vomiting. It may also cause them stomach problems and pain in some instances. Dogs should be fed a well-balanced diet and get plenty of exercise to remain healthy and active. When they're fed human food frequently, Hill's Pet Nutrition suggests that it can create an imbalance with their digestive system and overall wellness. Not to mention, it can also lead to behavioral problems, such as expecting some of your food after every meal. When those dangerous habits creep in, dogs may start seeking food out themselves. The chili pepper may not have been what Archie was hoping for, but social media users can't get enough of his frustrated reaction. This has led to more than 290 comments on the viral TikTok video so far. One comment reads: "The undeserved treat was an unexpected enemy all along." Another TikTok user wrote: "Crime doesn't pay, Archie!" Another person joked: "The flavor? Betrayal." While one commenter added: "His little screwed up nose, he's so annoyed he doesn't like it." Newsweek has contacted @bobbyfromthebin via TikTok for comment. We could not verify the details of the video. Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? Cutting Food Stamps Isn't Just Cruel, It's Also Bad Economic Policy

Well into the wee hours of Thursday morning, House Republicans were hard at work doing what they do best: making the lives of all but the wealthiest Americans harder. After hours of debate, the Republican-led House narrowly passed the 'Big Beautiful Bill' championed by Donald Trump, which brings hundreds of billions of dollars in funding cuts to essential programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), better known as food stamps. These $300 billion in proposed cuts will have devastating consequences for low-income Americans, many of whom are already struggling because everything, from rent to groceries, has gotten exponentially more expensive in recent years. In addition to nearly $300 million in SNAP budget cuts, the legislation would also increase work requirements for those receiving benefits for longer than three months, and shift a portion of the financial responsibility for SNAP to state budgets. According to CNN, that shift could result in some states limiting enrollment in assistance programs, or pulling out of SNAP altogether. Currently, it's estimated that around 11 million people, including 4 million children, would lose access to SNAP benefits. But despite the touted federal government 'savings,' these cuts to Medicaid and SNAP will have a devastating impact on the economy. There is pretty solid consensus among economists and other policy experts that programs like SNAP have obvious — and immediate — economic benefits. When the economy is bad, SNAP dollars are immediately infused back into the system, resulting in $1.50 in GDP growth for every $1 spent. SNAP spending also creates jobs, lowers healthcare costs, improves academic outcomes for children, and generally reduces poverty. Conversely, every time there are cuts to SNAP, the economy suffers: Farmers and grocers lose money, supermarket workers get laid off, and state and local budgets get strapped as local officials try to meet the demand for food assistance. If the cuts that just passed the House become law, projections indicate they could be catastrophic: one estimate suggests 1 million jobs will be lost, and states will see $113 billion in GDP losses. According to Sen. Amy Klobuchar, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, farmers will see billions in lost revenue, and workers in industries from trucking to supermarkets will lose their jobs. The president of Indiana's Gleaners Food Bank described the impact of the proposed cuts as a 'needless, self-inflicted humanitarian and economic disaster for Indiana and the country.' The SNAP program is the definition of a policy-no-brainer, and yet it remains controversial among conservative politicians because the thought of someone — even a child or elderly person! — obtaining something that they did not pay for is just untenable to the worst people among us. (Corporate welfare is, apparently, totally cool though.) I don't know how we fix that idea, that people in the richest country in the world are 'entitled' or 'greedy' for simply wanting enough food to eat, but you would think that this cruelty might be somewhat mitigated by the Republican party's own economic self-interest — and the interest of their wealthy constituents, but alas. It is clear that for House Speaker Mike Johnson and Trump, a little short-term political boost that doubles as a sucker-punch to poor Americans is worth the long-term economic pinch that will inevitably come as a result of these cuts. This legislation is, thankfully, not yet law. It's headed back to the Senate, and it's unclear which parts of the bill will survive, though Trump and the GOP seem determined to decimate SNAP and Medicaid. What is abundantly clear, though, is that it's time to stop viewing the fight over food stamps as having anything to do with making the economy better. It is, explicitly, a fight over who deserves to eat, and Trump and his cronies have made brutally clear which side they're on. The freshest news from the food world every day

Megyn Kelly Grills Jake Tapper for Being Part of Biden ‘Cover Up'

Right-wing pundit Megyn Kelly on Tuesday grilled CNN anchor Jake Tapper over what she claimed was his role in covering up former President Joe Biden's mental decline while in office. His new book, Original Sin, covers the topic extensively and reveals how Biden's inner circle helped to conceal his deteriorating health. Kelly pressed the CNN anchor on his coverage of Biden's presidency, noting how he is being criticized for complaining about a cover-up of Biden's mental acuity in his book, even though this has been 'something that right-wing pundits, the right wing in general, and independent media all saw and reported on.' 'It wasn't a mystery, even to left-wing reporters. They weren't fools, but they chose blindness over honest reporting,' she claimed. In response, Tapper admitted to making certain oversights about Biden's condition, but stood by his reporting generally. The CNN star added that he only later discovered that insiders 'justified' covering up Biden's condition during the 2016 election 'by saying that Donald Trump was an existential threat, and only Joe Biden could defeat him.' 'That, in their minds, justified everything,' he said. Biden revealed Sunday that he was diagnosed with an 'aggressive form' of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones, sparking another round of wild speculation that there had been a cover-up of the president's condition. Kelly continued to pressure Tapper, accusing him of seemingly 'running cover for the president' during his presidency by deliberately avoiding asking him certain questions in regards to his slurred speech, the way he occasionally lost his train of thought, and his multiple tumbles. She brought up an incident in 2022, when Biden called out for the deceased Indiana congresswoman Jackie Walorski at the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, asking the crowd: 'Where's Jackie?' Walorski had passed away in a car crash a few weeks prior, and a memorial video tribute to her was played moments before Biden's slip-up. He had also previously ordered that the White House flags be flown at half-staff in her honor. 'There is a way of pressing a man like that on the actual infirmities to bring it home to him and to the audience and you didn't do it,' Kelly said. 'That's correct, I didn't,' Tapper replied. Yet, he did note that he questioned Biden about concerns people had about his age, to which the former president replied: 'Watch me.' 'And I said, they're watching you and they are concerned that you are too old for this job,' Tapper said. He also stated that he feels 'humility' about his coverage of Biden, admitting that he didn't pressure him enough on his visible health issues. The pair discussed Tapper's interview with Lara Trump in 2020, when he accused her of mocking Biden's stutter when she claimed it showed his deteriorating health. 'I think you were mocking his stutter and I think you have absolutely no standing to diagnose somebody's cognitive decline,' Tapper told Trump in the interview. He admitted to Kelly that Trump 'saw something' that he did not at the time, and he '100 percent' owns that. Yet Kelly said that she thinks Tapper's 'visceral reaction' to Trump was 'because you didn't want to hear it.' She went on to state that CNN had their own connections in Biden's White House, but didn't use them to further investigate Biden's condition. 'You've been in Washington 30 years Jake, you and CNN have White House connections,' she told him. 'But there was no effort, none, to get to the bottom of this,' she said, accusing them of covering up Biden's worsening health. 'And now for you guys to write this book like 'there was a cover up' ... There was an attempted cover up, and it could only ever work if you allowed it.'

Cherokee Nation provides food to children and elders

TAHLEQUAH — The Nowata Food Distribution and Senior Nutrition site celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday. The Cherokee Nation's Senior Nutrition Program provides seniors across the 14-county reservation with weekly meals and opportunities to fellowship with others. 'We opened our first original site here 13 years ago, and now, just 13 years later, we are serving 771 individuals, and I am just so pleased with that,' District 11 Councilor Kendra McGeady said. She said that food sovereignty and the ability to meet your nutritional needs matter in many ways. 'This serves as a hub for fellowship and community, and I think that all those things play into the health and wellness of our citizens,' McGeady said. Cherokee Nation's Nowata Food Distribution Program, which operates in the same facility as the Senior Nutrition Program, serves eligible families nutritious foods and operates in a grocery store environment that allows participants to shop in a comfortable and familiar setting. The Nowata Food Distribution facility serves over 400 homes and 8,400 people through in-person and home-delivered meals annually. The new upgrades and expansion of the facilities are an investment of $2.8 million from the Cherokee Nation. 'These improvements to the Nowata Food Distribution Store and Senior Nutrition Site have been a long time coming. It's an incredible feeling knowing that we need to expand, because that means that Cherokees are utilizing these facilities in this community and surrounding communities,' said Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. The Nowata facility houses the tribe's senior nutrition site and food distribution store, which started operating in 2012. The new expansion to the building includes a 1,500-square-foot warehouse, a 400-square-foot conference room, a 500-square-foot dining expansion for the senior nutrition program, and a 1,500-square-foot freezer/cooler. Cherokee Nation is also helping the tribe's youngest citizens with its Summer EBT program, known as 'Sun Bucks. ' This program, offered through Cherokee Nation Public Health's Nutrition Programs, helps families buy nutritious foods during summer. Cherokee Nation expects to serve an estimated 50,000 children this summer, serving all eligible applicants, whether Cherokee or non-Cherokee citizens. Qualifying families will receive $120 in food benefits per child on one benefit issuance on an EBT card, which works like a debit card. Participation in this program will not impact other government assistance participants may receive. The deadline to apply is August 30. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
