Man disappears after exchanging fake gold chain for 17g gold bar in A'bad

Ahmedabad: A jeweller from Satellite has filed a cheating complaint against a man who exchanged a fake gold chain for a gold bar and then disappeared. Nilay Shah, a 30-year-old businessman residing at Kanchanbhumi Apartment, runs a jewellery shop, Gharena Jewel, at Palm Plaza Building on Makarba Road. On March 24, around 6pm, a customer named Ranjit Bharwadia visited the shop. He said he had a gold chain, which he wanted to give away in exchange for new jewellery. The chain, weighing 19.180 grams, was sent with Shah's employee, Ankit Prajapati, to a known jeweller in Vejalpur for testing. It appeared to be genuine. However, after not finding a design he liked, Bharwadia requested a gold bar instead. He promised to return later with photos to place an order for custom-made jewellery. Shah gave him a 17.450-gram gold bar worth around Rs 1.7 lakh. Bharwadia took it but did not come back to the shop. After two months of waiting, Shah got Bharwadia's gold chain checked again and discovered that it was only gold-plated. They made multiple attempts to contact Bharwadia but his mobile was switched off. Shah approached Sarkhej police and submitted a copy of Bharwadia's ID requesting legal action. Sarkhej police registered an FIR of cheating and breach of trust under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and began an inquiry to locate Bharwadia and verify the events.

Delhi businessman held for stalking, harassing woman online for 3 years

What began as a seemingly innocent Instagram friendship in 2021 unravelled into a three-year ordeal of cyberbullying and sexual exploitation for a young woman from Delhi's Shahdara—until she approached the police this week. On Thursday, the Delhi Police arrested a 37-year-old businessman in the case, on charges of sexual harassment, voyeurism and stalking, among others. The police identified the accused as Himanshu Arora, a married man who belongs to a family that runs a sanitary ware business in Shahdara. According to the woman's police complaint, she met Arora through Instagram in 2021. He earned her trust and began to emotionally pressure and manipulate her into sharing private photos and videos, she alleged. Soon, the woman said, she began receiving harassing texts from unknown Instagram accounts and email IDs sexually harassing her and attempting to extort her using the images and videos she had allegedly shared with Arora. She alleged that when she confronted Arora, he said that his laptop had been given for repairs, and he suspected the technician had stolen her photos and videos from it. The harassment continued and escalated, she said in her complaint. Fake profiles were made under her name, using the photos she had shared with Arora, she told the police. She was also allegedly coerced into performing inappropriate acts over Instagram and Google Meet video calls and received threats to pay Rs 1 lakh to end the ordeal. When she did not comply, the threats allegedly escalated, with the harassers threatening to kidnap her, attack her with acid, and harm her family. The harassers even fabricated legal notices implicating her in a murder case, she said in her complaint. This allegedly continued for three years until the victim registered a complaint on Wednesday. An FIR was lodged under sections 75 (sexual harassment), 77 (voyeurism), 78 (stalking), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 308(2) (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections 66E (violating privacy), 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form), and 67A (publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act in electronic form) of the IT Act. According to the police, nine fake Instagram accounts and a Gmail ID were used to harass the woman. 'Upon inquiry, digital evidence analysis, and responses received from Meta and Google, a mobile number was found to have been used to create the alleged Instagram IDs. This mobile number was registered in the name of Himanshu Arora's mother, but was being used by Arora himself. Arora was apprehended on Thursday, and during questioning, he admitted to his involvement in the creation, sharing, and use of the compromised data, as well as the sexual exploitation of the victim. The accused has been sent to judicial custody,' Prashant Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara, said. According to the police, Arora is a graduate from Delhi University and is married. The police seized two mobile phones containing photos of the woman, a screenshot of a fake Instagram profile with login credentials, and a laptop.

The Pimpri Chinchwad police said Friday they have nabbed Nilesh Ramchandra Chavan in connection with the Vaishnavi Hagawane dowry death case on charges of allegedly causing harm to her 10-month-old son. After a rigorous search operation, a police team held Chavan at a location on the India-Nepal border. A senior police officer confirmed that Chavan has been detained, and will be brought to Pune for further investigation. The police said Chavan will be placed under arrest, and produced before a court in Pune on Saturday. According to the police, Vaishnavi allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws' house in Bhukum in the Mulshi taluka of the Pune district on May 16. Her father, Anil Sahebrao Kaspate, 51, a resident of Wakad, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against her husband and in-laws at the Bavdhan Police Station of Pimpri Chinchwad police the next day. The police arrested Vaishnavi's husband, Shashank Hagawane, 27, father-in-law and expelled Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Rajendra Hagawane, 57, mother-in-law Lata, 54, sister-in-law Karishma, 31, and brother-in-law Sushil, 27, all residents of Bhukum in Mulshi, in this case. On May 22, an FIR was lodged against Chavan at the Warje Police Station in Pune city for allegedly threatening Vaishnavi's father and family members when they went to their residence to take custody of her son on May 20. The police said that Vaishnavi's 10-month-old son was with Chavan. The Kaspate family had alleged that when they went to take the baby from his house in Karve Nagar, he allegedly threatened them at gunpoint. He was booked in this case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Indian Arms Act. On May 24, the police booked Nilesh Chavan of Karve Nagarin for allegedly subjecting Vaishnavi's son to cruelty under sections 75 (cruelty to children), and 87 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The police said Chavan is known to be a friend of the Hagawane family. Meanwhile, the baby was handed over to the Kaspate family on May 22. But Chavan escaped from Pune. While he was on the run, the police conducted a search at his house, and seized his laptop and other items for investigation. The police then launched a massive search operation, and he was finally traced on the Nepal border. The police have also started the procedure for cancelling gun licences of Nilesh Chavan, Vaishnavi's husband, Shashank Hagawane, and brother-in-law Sushil. On Thursday, another offence was lodged against Shashank and Lata Hagawane at the Mhalunge MIDC Police Station in Pimpri Chinchwad for allegedly cheating a farmer, and threatening him at gunpoint in 2022. Two separate FIRs were also lodged Thursday against Shashank and Sushil Hagawane at the Warje and Kothrud police stations in Pune city for 'fraudulent representation' of their address by 'deceptive means' for taking gun licences. The police said an FIR was also lodged against Nilesh Chavan in 2022 following a complaint filed by his wife.

Mom, lover booked for assaulting her child in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A woman and her lover have been accused of assaulting her one-year-old infant because she was persistently crying and causing disturbance. The child's father filed a complaint with Chamarajpet police Thursday. The mother, in her early 20s, lives near Chamarajpet. A domestic help, she married a labourer three years ago but problems cropped up when he suspected her of having an affair with his friend. Police said the couple has been living separately for the last few months. The father alleged that his wife and his friend assaulted the child as she was causing a disturbance during their intimate moments. The mother, on the other hand, claimed only she assaulted the child because the latter would cry constantly and prevent her from doing household chores. The infant was taken to hospital, where doctors said she sustained major injuries. The child welfare committee asked police to hand over the infant to the mother after she is discharged from hospital as she needs parental care. The mother was warned not to hit the child again. Cops registered a case under Juvenile Justice Act and on charges of voluntarily causing hurt under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Ajit Jogi Statue Goes Missing Before Unveiling, Found In Civic Office Campus

The statue was later brought back to the place where it was to be installed. Gaurela (Chhattisgarh): A life-size statue of former Chhattisgarh chief minister late Ajit Jogi went missing on Monday from a square in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district where it had been kept for unveiling on May 29, officials said. While the incident prompted Jogi's son Amit Jogi to stage a protest at the spot, the statue was later found dumped in the premises of the Gaurela municipality office. The local police have registered a theft case against unidentified persons, said officials. The statue of Jogi was installed on a platform on the roadside at Jyotipur square in Gaurela town a few days back. It was to be unveiled on May 29, the death anniversary of the state's first Chief Minister. On May 22, the Gaurela Municipal Council had served a notice to the construction firm tasked with building the platform to remove the statue at once. CCTV footage from the area showed that the statue was removed using an earthmover around 2.30 am, said Naveen Borkar, station house officer of Gaurela police station. A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections concerning theft and dishonestly taking movable property out of someone's possession without their consent, he said. During a search, the statue was found at the Gaurela municipality office campus. Police have also identified the earthmover, a JCB machine, used to remove the statue, and a team has been sent to seize it, the official said. When asked whether the municipality removed the statue, Sub Divisional Magistrate of Gaurela, Richa Chandrakar, said the matter is being investigated and further action will be taken accordingly. The statue was later brought back to the place where it was to be installed. In its notice to the construction firm, Shri Ganesh Construction, the municipality had said that the statue had been installed on the platform without permission, which is 'against its work order issued for a garden and platform" and in violation of the PWD Work Manual. Through the notice, the chief municipality officer had directed the firm to immediately remove the installed statue and submit a detailed report regarding the work within 24 hours. The notice also warned of legal action in case of non-compliance. After learning about the missing statue, Jogi's son Amit Jogi and his supporters protested at the spot on Monday morning. 'People of the district wanted Jogi ji's statue installed in Jyotipur, his birthplace. The statue was removed and desecrated at 2 am in the darkness. 'It is not just an attack on the statue. Jogi ji may not be physically present amongst us, but he is alive in the heart of every person here,' Amit Jogi told reporters. He demanded stern action against those involved in the episode, stressing that the statue should be reinstalled at the same place within 24 hours. When asked about the notice served by the municipality, he said, 'I don't have any information about the notice. But I can vouch that the land on which the statue is to be installed does not belong to the municipality. It is private land, and the owner does not have any objection to it.' He said people's sentiments are attached to the statue. 'Chhattisgarh got recognition in the entire country because of Ajit Jogi. If the ruling BJP doesn't want his statue to be installed at his native place, then it shows their narrow-mindedness,' he said The statue has been purified with the holy water of Ganga, he said. 'Jogi ji was not the leader of only a party. I want both Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Leader of Opposition Charan Das Mahant to unveil the statue of Jogi ji,' he added. After Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh in 2000, Ajit Jogi became the CM of the state in the Congress government from 2000 to 2003. Ajit Jogi had founded JCC(J), also known as Jogi Congress, in June 2016 after he parted ways with the Congress. He died in May 2020.
