Yamaha Awards Over $400,000 in Grants to Enhance Access to Public Lands and Waters How to Apply for Yamaha OAI Grants MARIETTA, Ga., March 31, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, reinforces its commitment to outdoor recreation and conservation by awarding more than $400,000 in grants in the second half of 2024 through its Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI). For the first time, Yamaha OAI has partnered with Yamaha Rightwaters to extend its impact beyond land-based projects to include sustainable access to public waters. "The collaboration between Yamaha's Outdoor Access Initiative and Yamaha Rightwaters represents an exciting evolution in our conservation efforts," said Steve Nessl, Yamaha Motorsports Marketing Manager. "By bridging our work across land and water, we can support more comprehensive projects, maximize resources and continue leading the way in responsible outdoor recreation." In the latter half of 2024, Yamaha provided 20 grants for diverse projects, including trail maintenance, bridge construction, environmental education and wildlife protection. The first joint efforts between Yamaha OAI and Rightwaters include: Memorial Foundation of Germanna Colonists (sponsored by Village Motorsports, Virginia): Grant funds and a golf car donation provided by Yamaha's Golf Car division will support the Siegen Forest trail system and public boat launch improvements. Alabama Coastal Foundation (sponsored by Hall's Motorsports Mobile, Alabama): Funding will aid the 'Share the Beach' sea turtle monitoring and protection program on Dauphin Island. Saint Louis School (sponsored by Hawaii Rides, Hawaii): A donated UMAX by Yamaha's Golf Car division will enhance the Palolo Stream Restoration Project, supporting environmental education and land stewardship. Sault Ste. Snowmobile Association (sponsored by Chippewa Motors, Michigan): A grant will assist with bridge and trail repairs in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. OpenAI board ‘unanimously' rejects Elon Musk's $97.4 billion bid for company
The board of OpenAI unanimously rejected Elon Musk's $97.4 billion takeover bid, declaring on Friday that the tech firm is 'not for sale.' Donald Trump's 'First Buddy' and a group of investment firms offered to buy the nonprofit that controls OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, on Monday. 'OpenAI is not for sale, and the board has unanimously rejected Mr. Musk's latest attempt to disrupt his competition,' Bret Taylor, chair of OpenAI's board said in a statement. 'Any potential reorganization of OpenAI will strengthen our nonprofit and its mission to ensure artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity,' the statement concluded. OpenAI attorney William Savitt wrote to Musk's lawyer stating that the offer was 'not in the best interests of OAI's mission and is rejected.' Earlier in the week an attorney for Musk said his client would drop the bid if the company agreed to stop a transition from going from a nonprofit to a for-profit company. The Tesla CEO sued OpenAI last year over the matter. The battle over the company got personal when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Musk's proposal was coming from a place of insecurity over xAI, an artificial intelligence company he owns. 'I don't think he's like a happy person. I do feel for him,' Altman said in a Bloomberg interview. 'I wish he would just compete by building a better product, but I think there's been a lot of tactics.' A decade ago, Musk worked at OpenAI as an early investor but in 2018, he left the company over disagreements with other leadership members, particularly Altman. Altman has said the company needs to pivot to a for-profit business model to build capital for its large expansions. In January, President Donald Trump announced a $500 billion Stargate Project in collaboration between OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, and others to build AI infrastructure in the United States. Musk trolled the companies on X following the announcement. 'They don't actually have the money,' he wrote. 'SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority.' OpenAI attorney William Savitt in a letter to Musk's attorney Friday said the proposal "is not in the best interests of OAI's mission and is rejected." Musk, an early OpenAI investor, began a legal offensive against the ChatGPT maker nearly a year ago, suing for breach of contract over what he said was the betrayal of its founding aims as a nonprofit he helped found a decade ago. Then on Monday, while that case was still awaiting a key ruling, Musk and his own AI startup, xAI, and a group of investment firms announced a bid to buy the nonprofit that controls OpenAI. Musk in a court filing Wednesday expanded on the proposal to acquire the nonprofit's controlling stake in the for-profit OpenAI subsidiary. Savitt's letter Friday said that filing added "new material conditions to the proposal. As a result of that filing, it is now apparent that your clients' much-publicized 'bid' is in fact not a bid at all." In any event, "even as first presented," the board has unanimously rejected it, Savitt said. Musk has alleged in the lawsuit that the companies are violating the terms of his foundational contributions to the charity. Musk had invested about $45 million in the startup from its founding until 2018, his lawyer has said. He escalated the legal dispute late last year, adding new claims and defendants, including OpenAI's business partner Microsoft, and asking for a court order that would halt OpenAI's plans to more fully convert itself into a for-profit business. Musk also added xAI as a plaintiff, claiming that OpenAI was also unfairly stifling business competition. A judge is still considering Musk's request but expressed skepticism about some of his claims in a court hearing last week.
