Odisha: Process initiated for second bridge on Kathajodi to enhance Twin City link

Once completed, it will significantly boost road communication between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, officials said. The existing Subhas Bose Setu on Kathajodi had been inaugurated by the then chief minister Naveen Patnaik in July 2017. The 2.88-km-long structure, built at an approximate cost Rs 114 crore, was completed over a period of six years. The government had floated tender for the second bridge on Kathajodi in 2023. A budget of around Rs 220 crore had been set aside for the purpose. However, sources said tender was scrapped as the government wanted changes in its design in view the proposed metro project between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. OBCC sources said the fresh project will be taken up on a lump sum turnkey (LSTK) basis in which the contractor will be responsible for completing the project, from design to planning.

OBCC to HC: Redevelopment of Cuttack Chandi Temple to be completed by March 2026

1 2 Cuttack: Orissa high court recently took stock of the ongoing redevelopment of the Cuttack Chandi Temple after a PIL raised concerns over the safety of the idol during re-construction and sought timely completion of the project. The PIL was filed by residents Sukanta Mohanty and Debasis Rout, seeking the court's direction for a time-bound plan for the temple's reconstruction and submission of the detailed project report from the authorities concerned. The HC accepted a preliminary affidavit filed on Aug 7 by the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) Limited, which is executing the Rs 70 crore project sanctioned by the state govt in 2022. OBCC assured that the entire redevelopment, including pending structures and surveillance facilities, will be completed by March 2026. OBCC informed the court that most of the work has been completed, except the main temple structure, east gate, Yagya Mandap and some ancillary facilities. The agency said construction is being done using traditional methods with the help of skilled artisans, to maintain the original architectural style of the 11th-century shrine. In its Aug 7 order, uploaded on Monday, the division bench of Chief Justice Harish Tandon and Justice M S Raman said any further direction related to construction must be routed through the committee to avoid compromising the temple's originality. The bench allowed petitioners to approach the court again in case of delays or deviations. The project assumes significance as the temple is dedicated to Maa Chandi, the presiding deity of Cuttack, which attracts more than 25 lakh devotees annually. State govt had launched the project for integrated development of the temple with focus on revitalising the shrine infrastructure, enhancing facilities for devotees and preserving its rich cultural heritage. A major component of the project is the construction of a new structure, which involved dismantling the existing temple with careful protection of the 'Garbagriha' (sanctum sanctorum) during the process. Smart-er city: IT tower, ring road to come up

Bhubaneswar: With the capital city emerging as a major technology hub in eastern India, state govt is mulling an ambitious plan to construct an iconic IT tower at Satya Nagar here. The proposed facility will provide a state-of-the-art office space to major national and international IT and ITeS companies. Proposed to be developed over an area of around six acres in the heart of the city, the building is envisioned to have a total of 34 floors with three basements for vehicle parking and an observation deck on the top floor. Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation (OBCC) Ltd has been assigned the task of executing the mega project, for which it has already initiated the tender process. Sources said the tower will be built on a turnkey basis, where a single contractor will oversee the entire process. "There are several companies wanting to set up shop in Odisha that require state-of-the-art, furnished and functional office spaces. The demand has doubled considering the growth of entrepreneurship and startup culture," managing director of OBCC, Sameer Hota, said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! "Considering this fact, the most sought-after locations in Bhubaneswar are Patia, Saheed Nagar, Satya Nagar, Nayapalli, Rasulgarh, Khandagiri and Pahala," he said. The site identified by OBCC for the mega project is a primary location, with the Smart Janpath on one side and the Cuttack-Puri road on the other side. The site is located adjacent to St Mother Teresa Road, a 26-metre-wide major arterial road. According to initial specifications provided by OBCC, the iconic IT tower will have a total built-up area of 1.90 lakh square m, including three basements of 53,120 sq m each and 34 stories above the ground. There will also be a service basement and 4-storey building in the compound. "The plan has been prepared with the aim of creating an office building that adapts to current and future demand. The campus will have functionality, flexibility and sustainability," said an OBCC official, adding that the tower will have a minimum capacity to accommodate at least 8,000 staff members. As per the plan, the first two basements will accommodate 500 cars each, while the third one will house 1,000 cars. On the ground and first floors, there will be a reception, lobby, club, library and more facilities, while the other floors will have office spaces. "The project sounds truly amazing. Such a massive tower in the heart of the city will be magnificent. The city is expanding in every term, and such infrastructure is the need of the hour to maintain and improve its image as an IT hub," Pratik Acharya, a software engineer based in the city, said.
