Virat Kohli Interacts With Locals In England During Casual Stroll, Video Goes Viral
Star India batter Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma were recently spotted strolling in the streets of London. The right-handed batter, who has called time on his T20I and Test career, is now only active in ODI cricket. Before his maiden title win with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025, Kohli featured in the Champions Trophy, where Team India won the title. Currently on a break, Kohli will be seen in the ODI series against Australia, which will kick-start in October. Both Kohli and Anushka shifted to London in 2024, along with their two kids. Recently, a video went viral on social media, showing the couple walking on the streets of London and interacting with the local crowd. The video went viral in no time and made the Indian fans emotional as many of them stated that the former India skipper has chosen "peace over fame". Bro choosen Peace over Fame — Megalashaan (@Megalashaan) August 17, 2025 Cricket sb se rishta chodh diya bhaiya ne — Pitch Perfect (@pitchperfec_) August 17, 2025 He couldn't have this life in India. Gladly he his living a normal life in the UK. — Sagar Kumar Bal (@IamSagarBal11) August 17, 2025 Currently, there are many reports making rounds, stating that Kohli and India skipper Rohit Sharma, who also announced his retirement from T20Is and Tests, might miss out on the spot in the ODI World Cup 2027 squad. The star duo has already retired from Tests and T20Is, which means they will not be in action for most of the year. With only one format to play in, Kohli and Rohit will have very few match days. According to the initial schedule, India will play only nine ODIs from October till the next IPL - just nine international match days. There is still close to two years left for the ODI World Cup, and the duo faces a tough task in maintaining their prime form until then.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Told They "Won't Be Selected On Basis Of Vijay Hazare Trophy"
With the return of ODI cricket in October, a debate over the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has also triggered. The duo is expected to be picked for the ODI assignment against Australia, though some reports have claimed that it would be their last international outing for India. As the chatter around their future, especially keeping the ODI World Cup 2027 in mind goes on, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels Virat and Rohit retired from the 'wrong format'. "The duo said goodbye to the wrong format. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli suddenly decided to bid adieu to Test cricket. They said they will only play ODIs now. This is my problem. I'll tell you why. Test cricket is the toughest format. White-ball cricket is monotonous, but the same is not the case for Tests. Tests are the toughest, while ODIs are the easiest when it comes to batters. There is relatively no pressure," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel. India are scheduled to play just 6 ODIs before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. With Rohit and Virat not being active players in Tests or T20Is, Chopra feels there are too few ODIs to keep them motivated. "If you are playing just six ODIs in a year, then there are just six days of game time for you. How will you stay motivated? How will you prepare? How will you stay fit and stay in the best shape? This is what I'm thinking. You should have said that I'll not play ODIs and T20Is, but I'll play Tests. Consider that you had played the series against England, you would have played for 25 days. Then you would get the series against West Indies and South Africa," he added. The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter feels being active in Test cricket would've offered Virat and Rohit an opportunity to remain active by playing the Ranji Trophy. "If you were playing Tests, and somehow there was a gap, you can always play Ranji Trophy. You can play county cricket. If you play the longest format, you stay in the game. When you leave Tests, obviously, you wouldn't go to play Ranji Trophy. What's the point of playing Ranji and county when one has retired from Tests?," said Chopra. As for Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's domestic one-day tournament, Chopra doesn't feel the duo's performance in the event will be considered for selection. "The chatter about playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the tournament will happen in December. What's the point? There are nine ODIs for India till the next IPL. That's about it. Just nine days of cricket action for you. You're not playing at all. You're not practising," said Chopra. "Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli don't have to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy, they wouldn't be selected based on their performance in the tournament, let's be honest about this. It's bogus talk. If they had played Tests and left ODIs, staying in the groove would have been easier," he added.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Can't Be Allowed To Continue ODI Career, Ex Selector Explains Why
A debate over the ODI future of Indian cricket icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has set the entire sporting spectrum on fire, with the October series against Australia being labelled as their last. Despite form being on their side, both Rohit and Virat are reportedly not in the scheme of things as far as ODI World Cup 2027 is concerned. Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee member, Devang Gandhi, feels the veteran duo need to be moved on in order to make space for youngsters like Yashasvi Jaisal, Sai Sudharsan, etc. in the ODI format. "How will you make players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, among others, sit out when they have shown how well they can adapt? The bigger transition is from T20s to Tests. Once a player has done well in Test cricket and has the power game, ODIs should come easier to them. It is very important that the selectors and the team management sit together and take a call," Gandhi told the Times of India. Though the BCCI hasn't yet made its decision official, it has been reported that the likes of Kohli and Rohit would need to play domestic cricket if they are to prolong their careers in the 50-over format. Gandhi, however, feels even that isn't feasible as youngsters need to be groomed for the ODI World Cup in a scenario where Virat and Rohit fail to showcase the desired form ahead of the showpiece event. "If, say, in a year's time, we come to a situation where one of them is not firing and we need a replacement, the team management may not have enough time to prepare a player for the job," Gandhi said. "There's absolutely no doubt about the contribution of Rohit and Virat. But time doesn't wait for anybody," Gandhi added.

BCCI's Blunt Take On Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's ODI Future: "Obviously, If They..."
India veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli 's ODI future remains an uncertainity with the duo unlikely to be kept in the setup till the 2027 ODI World Cup. Both the players have already quit T20Is and Test cricket in the last 12 months, and if the rumours are true, the two might not stick around for longer, let along the 2027 ODI showpiece event. Dainik Jagran has reported that Rohit and Kohli could draw curtains on their ODI career after the tour of Australia in October, where India are scheduled to play three 50-over games. "Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not fit in our plans for the ODI World Cup 2027," the report quoted a source from the team management as saying. The report even claimed that the duo wanted to be a part of the England tour but were informed by the selectors that they are unlikely to be picked. Hence, they decided to announce their retirement from the format. However, according to a report by news agency PTI, Rohit and Kohli's ODI future is not on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s agenda as of now. Instead, they are focused on the upcoming Asia Cup, and the T20 World Cup next year. "Obviously, if they (Rohit and Kohli) have something in mind, they would tell the BCCI brass like they did before the England Test tour. But from an Indian team's perspective, the next big assignment is the T20 World Cup in February and preparations before that. The immediate focus will be on sending the best team for the Asia Cup T20 tournament, hoping all players are fit and available," a BCCI source privy to the developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity. The duo have so far remained non-committal on whether they are targeting the 2027 World Cup. "The BCCI never believes in taking decisions in haste and would always gauge the mood and public perceptions before taking a call, which is sensitive in nature considering the massive fan following of the two players," the report added. India's ODI tour of Australia begins on October 19, with matches scheduled in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney, followed by three home ODIs against South Africa in December. The 2026 calendar features ODI series against New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, the West Indies, and another contest against New Zealand.

Not Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni! Sanju Samson Calls India Captain As His Cricketing Idol
Last Updated: Sanju Samson, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter, admires Rohit Sharma as his idol. India's ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, may no longer feature regularly across all three formats, but the legacy he has built remains a source of admiration and inspiration. He has called time on his Test and T20I careers, focusing solely now on the ODI World Cup 2027. However, he is still missed by many, not just those outside the Indian dressing room, but also within it. Sanju Samson, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter, admires Rohit as his idol. The Kerala cricketer recently appeared in a podcast with former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, where he said he idolised Rohit. On the show, Ashwin asked, '(Who is) Your all-time cricketing idol, and one modern player that you get excited to watch, as a fan?" Sanju replied, 'That's a big question. Uh… Rohit Sharma." Speaking about the modern-day player he gets excited to watch, Samson named 'Chinna Paiyan' Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The 14-year-old opening batter made his IPL debut earlier this year, replacing an injured Samson in the Rajasthan Royals line-up. He quickly rose to fame with his extraordinary strokeplay and a sizzling century against the Gujarat Titans, becoming the youngest ever to do so in the league's history. He played 7 games in IPL 2025 and scored 252 runs, averaging 36. 'Yeah, I saw him hit one for a six. I was thinking that the little guy got lucky, but it kept on going. The quality of the shots also really shocked me," Samson admitted to Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter's YouTube show, Kutti Stories With Ash. And Samson and Ashwin weren't the only players in awe either. 'I saw Jos Buttler talking to Jofra Archer about it. About how it was to get smashed around by a 14-year-old in the nets," Ashwin said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
