Hubbard senior to cap off historic girls wrestling career
HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Hubbard senior wrestler Emily Flynn will not only go down in the school's record books but her name is scattered across the state record books as well. 'All of my sisters wrestled, but back then it was all just like boy stuff, there was really nothing for them so they didn't really get a fair chance to leave their mark on the state record books,' Flynn said. 'So, I mean, I'm just excited that I can do it because they weren't able to.' Flynn sits at 147 career wins ahead of the 2025 OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament this weekend, which puts her 2nd all-time for career wins according to the OHSAA record books. 'You can tell the girls have all gotten better, it's gotten much harder,' Flynn said. 'So, I mean, it's really nice to see that it's becoming more equal to the boys.' A stellar senior campaign has also been a historic one: 72 takedowns (the third most in a single season), 41 wins (tied for fifth), and 38 pins (the second most). 'As a girl, it was really hard to do well [against the boys] and then so recently, in the past couple of years, as girls wrestling has grown, it's just like unbelievable that now that I'm wrestling, people that are at my level that I can do so well and set so many records,' Flynn said. In the past two seasons, Flynn has pinned 76 of her 81 opponents. Now, the only thing left on her to-do list is to bring home some hardware from Columbus. 'I just, I got to do it like there's no other option at this point,' Flynn said. Flynn will hit the mat from March 7-9 in the OHSAA State Tournament Girls 130 lbs division. She will start facing off against Liberty Johnson from Clermont NE in match 10. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. The state qualifiers consist of three seniors, one junior, one sophomore, and one freshman. Beaver Local senior Isaac Prescott will wrestle in the 285 lb. heavyweight class. 'I'm super excited, super happy that all my hard work finally paid off,' said Prescott. 'If you told me that I would have qualified for State this year, I wouldn't have believed it. I'm just super thrilled.' Fellow senior Kane Curran will wrestle in the 190 lb. weight class. 'It's definitely paid off, I feel all kinds of emotions are being thrown at me right now,' said Curran. 'I'm really happy knowing that all the stuff that I've put into this is finally paying off.' Beaver's senior Justice Fisher will compete in the 106 lb. class. 'It'd be my lifelong dream since I was in youth, since I was a kid,' said Fisher. 'Get first, just get better than last year, but I want to be first in the state.' Beaver Local junior Bobby Buchheit will wrestle in the 138 lbs. class. 'Qualifying, I really don't see it as a big deal, it's just a step in my journey,' said Buchheit.
