Uzo Aduba's ‘Residence' Emmy chances, by the the numbers
Emmy voters have loved Uzo Aduba, who brings a special immediacy to comedic and dramatic roles alike, since her breakthrough on Netflix's 'Orange Is the New Black' in 2013. This year, she's vying for lead actress in a comedy for her performance as an eccentric gumshoe on the Netflix whodunit 'The Residence.' The age when Aduba, a theater actor who had barely been on TV, wowed viewers and critics as the lovesick, eloquent, unpredictable Suzanne 'Crazy Eyes' Warren on 'OITNB.' Aduba's nomination for 'The Residence' is her sixth in 11 years, across four projects. After winning a pair of Emmys for 'OITNB,' Aduba added a third for playing Rep. Shirley Chisholm in the 2020 FX limited series 'Mrs. America.' 'The Residence' was canceled in July after one season. A substantial number of actors have won Emmys for canceled series, so her show's fate does not necessarily prohibit another Aduba win in September. But Aduba is in an especially stacked category, in which four of the five nominees — Aduba, 'Abbott Elementary's' Quinta Brunson, 'The Bear's' Ayo Edebiri and 'Hacks'' Jean Smart — already have Emmys. Given the competition and her show's cancellation, Aduba often ranks last in her category on Emmy prognosticators' lists. But when you've already persuaded voters three times, you can't be counted out completely.

Netflix's You viewers left open-mouthed after discovering where they recognise Bronte from
Netflix 's You viewers were left shocked after they discovered where they recognise Bronte from. You returned to screens last week with the fifth and final season of the thriller and saw the return of Penn Badgley as protagonist Joe Goldberg. Featuring ten episodes, the drama picks up three years after the previous season and sees Joe return to New York. With the help of his wife Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie), he regains custody of his son Henry (Frankie DeMaio). The show features a new character, Bronte, who Joe soon develops an interest in. Played by Madeline Brewer, some viewers were stunned to realise where they have seen the actress before. Madeline is known for her roles in The Handmaid's Tale and Orange Is The New Black. The star portrayed Janine Lindo in The Handmaid's Tale and even received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series back in 2021. Meanwhile she played Tricia Miller, one of the youngest inmates at Litchfield Penitentiary in Orange Is The New Black. Some viewers took to Reddit to express their surprise and one posted: 'From OITNB!' Others replied: 'Makeup is crazy fr lmao I did not realize I knew so much of Madeline Brewer's work.' 'She's also in one of the best episodes of Black Mirror!' 'I had to Google her too LOL. I was shocked!' 'Yup I recognised her immediately lmao.' 'I feel like Madeline Brewer makes an appearance in half of the stuff I watch. I think she's great :).' 'OMG I DIDN'T REALIZE.' 'Ooh I knew I recognised her.' However, despite seeing four successful seasons previously, You has been hit with stinging reviews from some critics. The Guardian only rated the new instalment two out of five stars and described the ending as 'insulting rubbish'. While some may be disappointed that their favourite series is coming to an end, the publication said it was a 'mercy'. They noted that though the storyline 'was once ludicrously fun,' the finale is 'so bad that it's offensive'. You didn't impress The Telegraph either who matched the Guardian's unimpressed rating. Describing the show as swinging 'from soap opera to stale slasher flick' they claimed the 'final season will bludgeon your attention-span to death'. While The Daily Beast argued the new season's 'fatal flaw' is 'how muddled the show has allowed its satire to become'. The publication claimed aspects like the 'social media true-crime component' was 'woefully underbaked'. Its final verdict was the show 'should've wrapped up several chapters ago'. Echoing The Daily beast, The Standard also felt the show was well overdue to end and called it 'embarrassing,' alongside a two out of five star rating. Tech Advisor shared a more positive outlook and praised the cast and 'outlandish storyline'. It even encouraged fans of the previous four seasons to 'tune into this wild ride of a finale'. Though the site did acknowledge, 'Joe's many self-indulgent attempts to defend his violent instincts can get tiresome'.
