Sarawak Ombudsman denies DAP allegations of delays, lack of transparency
File photo of Wisma Masja II, where the Office of the Sarawak Ombudsman is located. – Photo from Wikimedia Commons KUCHING (July 19): The Office of the Sarawak Ombudsman (OSO) has refuted allegations by Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen that the state government delayed and lacked transparency in tabling a report from the Ombudsman unit. In a statement today, the OSO described Chong's claims, which were reported by Free Malaysia Today on July 16, as 'factually incorrect and legally misconceived'. 'The OSO views the allegation that no hearing was done as factually incorrect and legally misconceived,' said the office. In the report, Chong had also stated that the process of the Sarawak Ombudsman presenting its first report in the State Legislative Assembly had been very slow and that there had been 'no hearings'. In response, the OSO clarified that in carrying out its duties, the Ombudsman is empowered to conduct investigations, make preliminary inquiries, recommend mediation, and produce reports — but not to hold adjudicative hearings. They explained that the role of the Ombudsman is defined under Section 12 of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023 (SOO 2023). 'To receive, investigate, and resolve complaints relating to maladministration by Sarawak state public service agencies; promote good governance and accountability; recommend remedial or corrective measures based on findings; and monitor the implementation of such recommendations,' OSO stated. In further compliance with Section 42 of the SOO 2023, the OSO said it had submitted an Interim Report to the Minister responsible for the Ombudsman portfolio, covering the operational period from Aug 1, 2024 to Dec 31, 2024. 'This report is intended for tabling in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly as required by law,' the statement said. They added that a full Annual Report for 2025 will be compiled and submitted in due course to the State Legislature in accordance with the statutory framework. The OSO also reminded members of the public that complaints of maladministration against any Sarawak state public service agency may be formally lodged in writing with the Chief Ombudsman at the following address: Office of the Sarawak Ombudsman, Level 17, Wisma Masja II, Petra Jaya, 93050 Kuching, Sarawak. 'All bona fide complaints that fall within the jurisdiction, powers and functions of the Sarawak Ombudsman will be investigated in accordance with the procedures and safeguards established under the SOO 2023, including the protection of complainants and the confidentiality of proceedings,' they explained. LG signs deal to acquire Norway's OSO, expanding HVAC footprint in Europe
LG Electronics said Monday it has signed a deal to acquire Norwegian hot water solutions firm OSO Hotwater, as part of its expansion into Europe's fast-growing heating, ventilation and air-conditioning market. Under the agreement, the South Korean tech giant will acquire 100 percent of OSO's shares. Industry sources estimate the deal is worth hundreds of billions of won, though the company declined to disclose the exact amount. Lee Jae-sung, president of LG Electronics' Eco Solutions division, said OSO's water heating solutions are a 'strategic catalyst for LG's HVAC expansion." 'Together we will deliver highly efficient, integrated solutions that strengthen our market leadership and support global electrification for a more sustainable future,' he said. The transaction is expected to be completed in September, according to an LG official. The acquisition is anticipated to allow LG to bring OSO's hot water storage technology in-house and integrate it with its advanced heat pump systems. This will enable LG to provide tailored heating and hot water packages to meet customer needs and expand its footprint in Europe's HVAC market, LG said. Founded in 1932, OSO is Europe's leading manufacturer of stainless steel water heaters, which serve as storage units for hot water and can be paired with heat pumps, boilers and other heating systems. OSO's technology is essential for heat pump systems, which have seen significant growth recently across Europe as an efficient, eco-friendly alternative to conventional fossil fuel-based heating and cooling systems. OSO reported annual revenue of 942 million Norwegian kroner ($93.52 million) last year and employs around 260 people. Following the acquisition, OSO will continue to operate independently in its hot water solutions business. It will retain its existing OEM partnership and expand business opportunities. 'LG's deep know-how in heat pump water heaters in combination with OSO stainless steel tank leadership will ensure sustainable, high-quality product solutions for our customers,' said Sigurd Braathen, owner of OSO Hotwater, in a statement.

Suhr's OSO Short Scale aims for the best of both – combining a Gibson-like scale length with a T-style body

NAMM 2025: Suhr has gone short-scale with its latest electric guitar, with the OSO built to the 24.625" scale length often utilized by Gibson and PRS. With Mateus Asato, Scott Henderson, and Pete Thorn – recently announced as part of the SatchVai band – among its signature artists, the Lake Elsinore, California-based luthier has seen its stock take an upward trajectory of late. This latest foray into stunted territory, with a curvaceous Tele-type body, won't do it any harm, either. A trio of woods – an alder body, roasted maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard – provide its typical tonal heart, with some models being bestowed a fourth via a figured maple top. The neck varies across models. It's sculpted to Suhr's Historic C-profile with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard on its Two-tone Tobacco Burst model – and an Even Slim C-profile with an Indian rosewood 'board on the Tea Burst variant. As ever, there's a black sheep among the flock, with the Orange Satin finished model going all out with a mahogany body and Even Slim C-profile neck, figured maple top, and an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. That change in tonewood is reflected in its $4,449 pricing. When it comes to hardware, the premium builds stay in-house, which is consistent across the series. That includes fixed two-post, solid saddles and steel block bridge, and Suhr SSV-Neck and SSV-Bridge humbuckers. Described as the firm's most popular 'bucker of choice, the single screw pickups pride themselves on 'the warmth of a vintage humbucker,' and an 'increased clarity, definition, and range' thanks to an output far hotter than vintage-flavored designs typically dare to go. The bridge pickup in particular vies for the sought-after PAF-like tones of yesteryear – both are here given simple black with silver pole pieces aesthetics. Priced upwards of $3,800 and available in four finishes the OSOs aren't exactly budget builds. Rather, this is Suhr throwing the most lavish specs at its first shorter-scale design since the Aura, itself based on the Gibson Les Paul. Having first teased the guitars on its Instagram, inviting players to 'experience the all-new Oso Short Scale' at NAMM, GW duly popped by the Suhr booth at the weekend and the model was drawing a lot of eyeballs.
