Will Vadivelu do comedy in Maareesan? Find out what director Sudheesh Sankar has to say

Maareesan is an upcoming Tamil film starring actors Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu in the lead roles. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on July 25. While the film marks the second collaboration of the actors after their critically acclaimed Tamil political drama Maamannan, it is expected to show the actors in a different avatar. Maareesan stars actors Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu In a conversation with OTTplay, Maareesan director Sudheesh Sankar says Vadivelu's character would have some comedy. While not revealing much, Sudheesh does say that Maareesan will have some humorous moments, but at the same time, not the brand of comedy that Vadivelu is known for. Keep reading to know what he says. 'Situational comedies' in Maareesan Maareesan is gearing up for release this week. The film is helmed by Kerala-native Sudheesh Sankar, and has Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil in lead roles. While Vadivelu is a prolific comedian, his intense performance in Maamannan gave him the stature of a serious actor. When asked if Vadivelu gets to do comedy in Maareesan, Sudheesh replies, 'There are some situational comedies in the film. However, it is not the word-to-word comedy that we know Vadivelu sir for. But there is humour which will keep our minds pleasant, especially in the first half. Similarly, Fahadh sir's character will also have some light-hearted moments.' The director also adds that Maareesan will be more realistic and will cater to both Tamil and Malayalam audiences. Maareesan is touted to be a thriller, and will also feature actors Kovai Sarala, Vivek Prasanna, Sithara, PL Thenappan, Livingston, Renuka, Saravana Subbiah, Krishna, Haritha, and Telephone Raja in prominent roles. The film is written by V Krishna Moorthy who also serves as the creative director of the film. Super Good Films has produced Maareesan, which has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. L2: Empuraan, the Malayalam blockbuster starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has secured a nomination for Best Film at the prestigious Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025, reported OTTplay. The festival will take place from 14 to 24 August and celebrates cinematic excellence across Indian languages and genres. The film, which has been both a commercial success and a topic of controversy, is the sole Malayalam title competing in the Best Film category. Joining it on the list are Prabhas' futuristic Telugu epic Kalki 2898 AD, the Tamil emotional drama Meiyazhagan featuring Karthi and Arvind Swamy, and the Hindi horror-comedy sequel Stree 2 starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu fetches career-best deal for superstar

Hari Hara Veeram Mallu, the upcoming Telugu film starring actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, has faced a series of challenges since it was announced almost three years ago. However, the problems doesn't seem to have affected the film's hype in any way as the theatrical rights of the movie have fetched record prices for its producers. Hari Hara Veera Mallu The actor's political commitments had left the makers in doldrums the past few years, and the movie itself had undergone several changes over the years - including that of the director. Initially, it was helmed by Krish. But after the movie was delayed several times, he walked out of the project and its producer AM Rathnam roped in his son and filmmaker Jyothi Krishna, to complete the film. A fan of Pawan Kalyan? Since the makers unveiled its theatrical trailer, things have been back on track and the film's pre-release business is sort of a testament to that. A source close to the production team of the film tell us that its theatrical rights in Telugu States has been sold at ₹150 crore. This makes it the highest price for a Pawan Kalyan film till date. Though an official confirmation is awaited, we hear that Hari Hara Veera Mallu needs to cross ₹150 crore net at the box office to break even for the producers. A chunk of this revenue has already been recovered with the team selling its OTT rights to Amazon Prime Video, as reported by OTTplay earlier. All eyes on Pawan Kalyan for ticket hikes in Andhra Pawan Kalyan is also the Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh and people from the industry are looking at him to hike ticket prices ahead of the big releases this July. A massive pre-release event is being planned for the film in the coming days, and some of the biggest stars in Telugu cinema will grace the event. Niddhi Agerwal plays the female lead in this film, which has Bobby Deol in the role of Aurangzeb.
