First Lady Liza Marcos Heads to Saudi for OFW Engagement, Skips US Trip
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos will not accompany President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on his official US visit this week, opting instead to fly to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for a working visit aimed at engaging with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), Malacañang confirmed on Friday, July 18.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro announced that the First Lady departed on July 17 and will stay until July 20 to participate in outreach activities, including the OFW and OWWA Serbisyo Caravan, which provides various government services to Filipino migrants.
Her itinerary includes visits to shelters for distressed Filipinos and launching digital services for OFWs, with DICT Undersecretary Dave Almirol supporting the initiative.
Castro emphasized that the visit demonstrates the Marcos administration's dedication to OFW welfare. The trip was originally scheduled for early July but was moved for logistical coordination.
Meanwhile, President Marcos is set to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington from July 20 to 22 to discuss trade and security matters. The First Lady is due to return to Manila on July 21.
