Ram's HEMI mechanical bull theft was a hoax, says sheriff
Michael Bouchard, an Oakland County sheriff in Michigan, is calling "BS" on Ram's claim that its mechanical bull thrill ride was stolen outside of Detroit in Pontiac last weekend. In a Tuesday, Aug. 12, news release from Ram, the company said the $34,000 covering for its "Bucking Hemi" thrill ride — a mechanical bull fashioned to look like a Ram HEMI engine — was stolen as they were breaking down the set of Roadkill Nights, an annual drag racing event held in downtown Pontiac, on Saturday, Aug. 9. The mechanical bull has been part of a Ram marketing campaign, as the brand touts a return to NASCAR and the return of the HEMI V8 engines to its vehicles. The Ram brand said it "is actively collaborating with authorities" and encouraged people to contact local law enforcement regarding the theft if they know anything. They even posted missing flyers on social media. Best summer auto shows: How the Woodward Dream Cruise still drives Detroit's car culture forward Tim Kuniskis, the CEO of Ram, said in the news release, "This is bull----." "Well, it may indeed have been BS," wrote the Oakland County Sheriff's Office in response, late Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 13. Bouchard, whose deputies responded to the scene of Roadkill Nights after receiving a larceny report, said Ram's claim that the mechanical bull was stolen is false. Bouchard said his detectives have concluded the "theft never occurred," alleging that the mechanical bull cover was in Ram's possession the entire time. 'The company never actually lost the bull,' Bouchard said in a news release. 'I find this to be very frustrating and a tremendous waste of valuable investigative time." While the hunt for the stolen bull has concluded, the Sheriff's Office is now considering charges. "Now, we're pivoting to see if a crime was committed by the filing of a false police report,' Bouchard said. Oakland County first responders honored for heroism at splash pad shooting
The Brief About one year ago nine people were wounded including two children at a splash pad in Rochester Hills. The gunman killed himself after the mass shooting, but quick-thinking by first responders helped all victims survive. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office and Rochester Hills Fire Department earned national honors for their actions that day. FOX 2 - A year after a random mass shooting at a Rochester Hills splash pad, Oakland County's first responders were honored on a national stage. The backstory Their emergency medical response is credited with saving lives at the Brooklands Splashpad on June 15, 2024 where nine victims including two children, were wounded. There were no casualties, but the shooter, Michael William Nash, fled and killed himself during a police standoff. But in the chaos, calm professionalism helped save lives. "When you look at the number of individuals that were very traumatically wounded, you had (nine) individuals who were wounded in this mass shooting, none of them died," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "That's a testament to the speedy response first and the treatment second." The Oakland County Sheriff's Office and Rochester Hills Fire Department were recognized for their actions. They received the Captain Frank Butler Casualty Care Award named for a U.S. Navy SEAL and physician, and given only to those who exemplify excellence in emergency trauma care. "It's gratifying even though it's something we wished and hoped and prayed we'd never have to face," Bouchard said. "Which is how you deal with a traumatic situation. "There's a variety of ways to treat the wound depending on where it's located and how severe it is. Obviously pressure is one of the important things on a lot of the wounds, but tourniquets can also be vitally important. "Bleeding in certain wounds can cause a patient to expire very quickly. So I know that our folks, one sergeant in particular, Sgt. (Joseph) Ashley applied multiple tourniquets to wounded victims." Bouchard says it wasn't luck. It was preparation - training that turned into action when it mattered most. The Source Information for this report came from an interview with Sheriff Mike Bouchard and previous reports.

2 face charges after guns found near Pontiac graduation ceremony
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two Pontiac men face weapons charges after the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said they intended to 'shoot up' a high school graduation on the southeast side of the state last week. Jamarion Hardiman, 20, and Deahveon Whaley, 19, are each accused of carrying a firearm with unlawful intent, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed weapon, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office. 2 planned to 'shoot up' graduation in Pontiac, sheriff says The graduation for a Pontiac charter school was held June 3 at the UWM Sports Complex. The prosecutor's office says surveillance video shows Hardiman and Whaley — neither of whom attended the charter school, authorities previously said — go in to the building together. Hardiman then attacked an 'unidentified individual,' prosecutors said. Security broke up the fight and got them to go outside, but the fight resumed in the parking lot. Surveillance video shows Hardiman was then hit by a car, though he seemed uninjured. Prosecutors say he and Whaley went back to their car, where Whaley put a gun in his waistband and Hardiman grabbed a backpack. Surveillance video later showed them crouching near cars in the parking lot, where investigators say they ditched the gun and backpack — which authorities say contained a second gun. '(The guns were) fully loaded with high-capacity magazines. Each weapon had a 40-round magazine,' Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said at a news conference Friday. 'I believe (deputies and security) probably prevented a mass shooting.' Whaley was arrested Wednesday. Hardiman was arrested within hours of the news conference, at which Bouchard asked the public for help finding him. The sheriff's office said a witness reported having seen a Snapchat post threatening to 'shoot up' the graduation. But the prosecutor's office said deputies have so far not been able to track that post down or get the name of the witness who reported seeing it. If that changes, the prosecutor's office said, more charges may be filed. Bouchard said both suspects have histories of violence and Hardiman was already on probation for a weapons offense.
