Hollywood actor Christian Bale has once again left fans stunned with a dramatic transformation for his latest role. The Oscar-winning actor was recently spotted on the Atlanta set of Madden, looking nearly unrecognisable in character as late Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis. The 51-year-old actor, sported a receding hairline wig and bleached eyebrows while dressed in a white v-neck shirt, leather jacket, black slacks, and dress shoes. His look was topped off with several large championship rings — an unmistakable nod to Davis' legacy with the Raiders. This kind of physical commitment is nothing new for Christian, who is widely regarded as one of Hollywood's most dedicated actors. He famously dropped over 60 pounds for The Machinist, then bulked up massively just months later to play Batman in Batman Begins. In American Hustle, he packed on weight and adopted a comb-over to play conman Irving Rosenfeld. And in the Dick Cheney biopic Vice, Christian underwent a complete transformation, gaining weight and altering his posture and voice to become the former U.S. Vice President — a performance that won him a Golden Globe. "The film follows Madden's remarkable journey—from his Super Bowl-winning partnership with Al Davis and the Raiders, to creating Madden NFL, and becoming one of the most iconic voices in football history," Amazon MGM Studios said of the film when it was announced on May 13. Also joining the cast are John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis. David O. Russell, who previously directed Bale in The Fighter and American Hustle, is directing the film. Madden served as head coach of the Raiders from 1969 to 1978. He was one of the youngest head coaches in history when the Raiders hired him at 32. His biggest victory came in January 1977, when he led the Raiders to a 32-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI. Davis was the principal owner of the Raiders from 1972 until his death in 2011 at 82. His widow, Carol Davis, and their son Mark Davis now own the team. Christian has previously discussed his roles and opened up about playing Patrick Bateman in the iconic American Psycho. In a 2022 interview with GQ, he said he was fired from the film during pre-production despite being handpicked for the role. "I had the book by my side, and I would read through it every single time because [author] Brett [Easton Ellis] had just had so many wonderful descriptions,' Bale said, describing how he approached the character. 'I didn't approach it like she said the other actors had, where they were talking about, 'What's his childhood?' or 'What's the reason he's become this?' I was like, ah, none of that really matters. He's just like this alien.' He added: "As we were doing the scene, I started laughing, and she started cracking up. We were like, 'Oh yeah, right - this will work between us.'' However, not everyone was sold. The financiers didn't like the idea of Christian playing the lead and wanted a bigger star so he was booted from the movie but he wasn't ready to leave. He continued preparing for the role and it (obviously) worked out. Christian said he "went a little bit psycho" himself and refused to step aside from the role. "Even though other people were cast, other directors were on board, I just kept on prepping.' Eventually, the producers relented, and Bale reclaimed the part he never truly let go of.

Local legend Fred Biletnikoff given key to City of Erie
An NFL Hall of Famer and Erie legend came to town Wednesday night, earning special recognition from the Jefferson Educational Society. Fred Belitnikoff was born and raised in Erie before playing 14 seasons with the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League. Hagen Dignitas Award, which honors Erie natives who have achieved greatness in their fields. The former NFL star said he's excited to be back in Erie and will always carry a part of it with him. From blight to bright — Erie Land Bank showcases newly rehabilitated home 'I've been through so much, and being born and raised here, I learned a lot when I left here from how I was raised, and the people I was raised around.' 'And still to this day, you learn how to treat people no matter who they are,' he said. This Saturday, Biletnikoff will be signing autographs from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Bullfrog Bar on Peach Street.
