The first police EV in Montgomery County
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The first all-electric police vehicle in Montgomery County was unveiled in Oakwood on Thursday.
Oakwood Public Safety Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV. It is fully up-fitted to the department's standards.
'The Oakwood Public Safety Department is proud to implement this amazing vehicle into our fleet as we move towards a more sustainable future,' said Oakwood Public Safety Director, Chief Alan Hill.
How Do Electric Cars Work?
He explained electric vehicles have a smaller carbon footprint and are better for the environment.
'Police vehicles spend a tremendous amount of time idling when on patrol in comparison to other vehicles on the roadway. When considering the electricity used for charging, electric vehicles have a much smaller carbon footprint than gas-powered vehicles. Additionally, being an all-electric vehicle, tailpipe emissions from long periods of idling are eliminated,' said Chief Hill.
