Tears as Dog Struggles to Make Friends at Park: 'The Little Barks'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A video of a dog playing alone at a dog park has tugged at heartstrings across the internet after it appeared that no one wanted to chase her. Oats, a 1-year-old Australian shepherd, was captured roaming the park in search of a playmate, by her owner @oatstheaussie. Despite her hopeful barks and playful demeanor, no other pups took her up on her offer. The video, posted to TikTok, has since racked up 17.3 million views and 4.2 million likes. "When we saw no dogs wanted to play with her, we were devastated. Like all Aussies, Oats really just wants to play and she has tons of energy. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body and is always looking for new dog friends," her owners, Mia and Scott, told Newsweek. "When no one wants to chase your dog at the dog park," reads the text overlaying the clip, which shows Oats pacing, glancing around, and even lying down in a classic canine invitation to play. "The little barks to see if anyone wants to play," the caption adds, summing up the heartbreaking scene. Australian shepherds are highly intelligent and energetic dogs, originally bred to herd livestock, and they thrive when given a job to do or a way to expend their boundless energy, according to the American Kennel Club. The pawrents described Oats as: sassy, vocal, loyal and sweet, who loves playing and has main character energy. When dogs invite others to play, their body language says it all. My Pet Matters explains that dogs often employ a "play bow" by lowering their front legs and keeping their rear up, or they may bounce around, bark softly, or present a toy—all universal signs in the canine world that say, "Let's play!" TikTokers were quick to flood the comments with sympathy for Oats. "Okay now post a happy video of him pls," one viewer begged. "Him looking back at you for reassurance," another user noted, clearly moved by the dog's hopeful glances. A split image showing Oats the Australian shepherd looking for a friend. "I always feel bad taking my BC to the dog park cuz dogs always shun her, even though she has the biggest heart after all she went through before adopting her. We end up just having our own pup party away from them," wrote Richie. "I started crying the second I finished reading," said one user. "I used to cry when I would see video of my dog at daycare and none of the dogs would play with him," shared Les. But Oats's story didn't end in loneliness. A follow-up video posted by her owner delivered the joyful update everyone was hoping for: Oats had finally made a friend at the park. "POV: she finally found someone to bark at AND chase," reads the caption of the second clip, which shows Oats gleefully running alongside another dog. The video has since been viewed 1.4 million times. TikTokers were quick to celebrate the happy ending. "I'm happy now!! I was crying when I saw the first part," said Nyda. "I can sleep peacefully now," another user chimed in. "I feel like a proud mother," one viewer shared. "Once she found a sweet corgi that was ready to play, we were ecstatic because Oats could get her much needed playtime at the dog park," the owners concluded. Alabama Announces Blockbuster Matchup Against Legendary Coach
The Alabama Crimson Tide are looking to build off a disappointing end to their 2024-25 college basketball campaign as they got overwhelmed in the Elite Eight against the Duke Blue Devils. Losing sharpshooters Mark Sears and Labaron Philon are pieces that need to be filled, and can expect head coach Nate Oats shape his roster to make another deep run next year. Advertisement They have announced a blockbuster matchup that is going to be scheduled for the 2026-27 season. At Madison Square Garden on November 8, Oats and the Crimson Tide will be taking on the St. John's Red Storm, led by legendary head coach Rick Pitino. St. John's Red Storm head coach Rick Penner-Imagn Images Pitino most recently shared Coach of the Year honors with Auburn Tigers coach Bruce Pearl, and has turned around St. John's to be one of college basketball's top schools. The Red Storm had their magical run end early at the hands of John Calipari's ferocious Arkansas team, who eventually fell to Texas Tech in the Sweet 16. In the 26-27 season, Pitino and Oats will battle in one of the nation's top venues at MSG. Advertisement Oats and Pitino have faced off just twice with each coach winning a game. Oats started off 1-0 after his No. 2 seed Tide defeated Pitino's No. 15 seed Iona Gaels in the 2020-21 NCAA Tournament. Pitino got his revenge during an invitational that following November thanks to some magic from Walter Clayton Jr. off the bench, who later transferred to Florida and won a national championship. The meeting in 2026 will be the third meeting, and with two top programs in St. John's and Alabama, will make for an intense meeting that will prepare both teams for a title run later in the year. Report: Alabama, St. John's basketball finalizing home-and-home series
Nate Oats appears to have landed another early-season non-conference test for Alabama basketball, and it comes with a trip to The Big Apple. According to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, Alabama and St. John's are finalizing a home-and-home series against each other. The series would start this upcoming 2025-26 college basketball season on Nov. 8 at Madison Square Garden, with the return game taking place in Birmingham during the 2026-27 season. Advertisement Alabama's NIL collective, Yea Alabama, confirmed Rothstein's reporting on its X account (formerly Twitter) that the Crimson Tide and Red Storm were working on scheduling a game at The World's Most Famous Arena. REQUIRED READING: Nick Saban expected to join President Donald Trump's commission on college athletics: Reports Scheduling a team like St. John's, which was ranked as high as No. 5 in the country last season and earned a No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament last season, is not something new for Oats nor is the decision of scheduling the game right out of the gate, as these caliber-level games serve as early tests for SEC play and March Madness. Advertisement "Alabama men's basketball is working towards scheduling a game with St. John's in Madison Square Garden in November," Yea Alabama wrote on X. In recent years, Oats has scheduled marquee non-conference games against Houston, Gonzaga, Creighton, Illinois, Memphis and Arizona, among others. Last year, Oats and Alabama faced Houston, Rutgers and Oregon in The Players Era Festival, an NIL-driven multi-team event in Las Vegas that they will compete in again this year. November's expected game between Alabama and St. John's will be the first head-to-head meeting between Oats and St. John's Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino since the 2021 ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando, Florida, when Pitino was then at Iona. The two also coached against each other in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Both the Crimson Tide and Red Storm have utilized the transfer portal this season to reshape their rosters from last season. St. John's has landed North Carolina guard Ian Jackson, Cincinnati forward Dillon Mitchell, Providence forward Bryce Hopkins, Arizona State guard Joson Sanon and Stanford guard Oziyah Sellers, giving Pitino what many college basketball analysts believe will be one of the top rosters, if not the top roster in the country this season. Advertisement As noted by the Tuscaloosa News, Oats has retooled last year's Elite Eight team with four players from the transfer portal. The Crimson Tide most recently landed Tarleton State 6-foot-8 forward Keitenn Bristow in the portal on April 30. Alabama finished 28-9 overall and 13-5 in SEC play last season. Alabama Lands Major Transfer Portal Addition on Wednesday
When the 2025-26 college basketball season begins, one of the teams to keep an eye on is the Alabama Crimson Tide. Nate Oats and his squad have been flirting with cutting down the nets for the ultimate prize of winning an NCAA Tournament title. The last two seasons saw the Crimson Tide fall short, first in the Final Four, and then last season in the Elite Eight. After winning 84 games over the past three seasons, Oats and his staff remain determined to assemble the best roster in college basketball. Each brings unique experience and production to Alabama's growing roster. Advertisement Williamson is a center out of Bucknell, and he was the first portal pickup for Oats and staff. He played three seasons with the Bison and appeared in 81 games. In his final season with Bucknell, he scored 17.6 points per game. Bol Bowen comes to Alabama from Florida State. He played 24.9 minutes per game for the Seminoles last season. During that time, he scored 8.0 points per game and picked up 5.2 rebounds per game. Bethea comes from the University of Miami. With the Hurricanes, he made 16 starts over 31 games during the 2024-25 season and scored 7.1 points per game. Oats is ready to start his seventh season at Alabama. The Crimson Tide are 145-63 in his tenure and have five straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
