Celtic's Obert proposal revealed as 'asking price' emerges
Although a centre-half by trade, Obert made the majority of his Serie A appearances last season at left-back. It was reported on Wednesday that Celtic want to sign the 22-year-old, who has played 11 times for his country, Slovakia. Now, Italian outlet Calcio Casteddu claims that the Parkhead club and Royal Antwerp of Belgium have made proposals to sign Obert, both in the region of €3.5 million. Cagliari, however, have set an asking price of between €6-7m. Read more: Although the gap in valuation between the clubs is significant, the report states that 'unexpected developments cannot be ruled out'. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has publicly stated that following the loan arrival of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from Manchester City, his club won't move to bring in another central defender this summer. With Obert playing a large chunk of games at left-back last season, he could be brought in to provide cover for Kieran Tierney after Hayato Inamura wasn't even on the bench on flag day. Celtic travel to face Aberdeen this weekend after starting the season with a home win against St Mirren.

The Scottish Premiership champions have just completed the signing of Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan but Brendan Rodgers will still be keen to add to his squad. But reports in Italy are claiming the Hoops are interested in another defender, one with international experience too. Adam Obert played 23 times for Cagliari last season across all competitions and has picked up 23 caps for the Slovakia national team since making his debut in 2022. The 22-year-old has a contract with the Islanders until 2029, having only signed an extension back in January. According to L'Unione Sarda, Celtic are keen on the player but the two clubs have been unable to agree on a fee. They report that the Hoops would need to increase their offer in order for them to consider a sale. The exact figure being debated is unknown but Obert is valued at £2.6million (3million euros). Obert is a left-sided centre-back who can also operate at left-back. Celtic may see him as an upgrade on Liam Scales, who has been similarly used in both positions. New signing Simpson-Pusey is right-sided and has primarily been used in the centre of defence whilst coming through at City. I'm a Celtic-daft bride – I called off the big day but I still celebrated in my wedding dress at Parkhead Obert came through the ranks at Zbrojovka Brno in the Czech Republic before moving to Sampdoria's academy in 2018. After three years with the Genoa-based side, he moved to Sardinia with Cagliari. He has since made 77 league appearances, playing a key role in their latest promotion-winning campaign in Serie B (2022-23). The novel was also a finalist for the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize and the William Saroyan International Prize for Writing. In 2022, he made the longlist for the CBC Short Story Prize for an earlier version of Savages. "Freedom — lost." The short story's source of inspiration "During my childhood in Africa I lived for some years in a home for boys, where I knew a boy who thought he was my friend, but he was nobody's friend, he was our victim." First lines 'Piss off, Obert!' 'Where are you guys going?' Nobody really likes Obert. He doesn't have any friends. He pees his sleeping bag. He's a runt. 'Come on, Neto, let me come with you guys.' Just because I stopped somebody stealing Obert's shoes, now Obert thinks we are friends. We leave him and head away from the hole in the wire fence that encloses the collection of tents and buildings that make up the Umtentwini Relocation Camp and continue into the bush, along the path that Luckson says leads to the Lumela river. Maybe we can get home from there. Check out the rest of the longlist The longlist was selected from more than 2,300 entries. A team of 12 writers and editors from across Canada compiled the list. The jury selects the shortlist and the eventual winner from the readers' longlisted selections. This year's jury is composed of Conor Kerr, Kudakwashe Rutendo and Michael Christie.
