One person confirmed dead in early morning house fire in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities confirmed one person has died after an early morning house fire in Oceanside on Monday. The fire started just after 3:30 a.m. at a residence in a cul de sac located in the 2000 block of Wedgewood Drive. In a joint statement issued by the Oceanside police and fire departments, they revealed the person who died was 'the subject of multiple welfare checks by Oceanside Police following reports of self-harm and mental health concerns.' Oceanside police were called to the property several times over the past few days, many of which resulted in standoffs. The statement said officers 'took steps to prioritize safety and provide appropriate assistance' during those times. Although one death has been confirmed, the exact number of occupants inside the home at the time of the fire and whether there were any other injuries is still unknown at this time. On Monday, forensic specialists and a trauma crisis specialist were at the scene of the fire. Detectives from both the fire and police departments were seen collecting evidence. The Red Cross was also on scene to provide assistance to others who were affected by the incident. The circumstances surrounding the fire and the person's death remain under investigation. Police shut down planned ride on illegal electric motorcycles in San Diego County
(FOX 5/KUSI) — A planned ride through North County on potentially illegal two-wheeled vehicles was shut down by police this Wednesday. In a post on Facebook, Carlsbad Police said that its officers, as well as officers from Oceanside Police, stopped the planned rideout between the two cities before it began. Pictures shared by the agency show officers speaking with several of the riders alongside the vehicles. Carlsbad police said officers addressed several violations involving the e-motorcycles and 'Surrons.' Illegal gambling den busted in San Diego Sur-Ron is a brand that makes, what it calls, 'electric bikes,' but that appear more like a dirt bike. Police said that these vehicles, which can sometimes go faster than the legal maximum speed of 20 mph for a standard e-bike, are illegal if they are unregistered, and that a license is necessary to ride them. San Diego Police Department urges peace, warns against violence in anti-ICE protests While many of the protests have remained peaceful, some have grown tense and led to clashes between law enforcement and civilians, resulting in hundreds of arrests, The Hill reports. Oceanside Police investigate fatal shooting near park
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Oceanside Police Homicide Detectives are investigating a deadly shooting near a park in Oceanside Saturday morning. Officers with the Oceanside Police Department found a man with a gunshot wound in a canyon near the Ron Ortega Recreation Park in the 400 block of Country Club Lane in Oceanside around 11:15 a.m. Saturday after receiving 911 calls, the police department reports. The man was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving measures from first responders, police report. His identity is being withheld pending family notification. Detectives from the Oceanside Police Department's Crimes of Violence Unit responded and have taken over the homicide investigation. Suspect arrested after hitting three pedestrians in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A bystander followed a vehicle that took off after seeing three pedestrians get hit in Oceanside Saturday afternoon, helping lead police to make an arrest. One child and two adults were hit by a vehicle near the intersection of S Coast Highway and Wisconsin Avenue in Oceanside around 2 p.m. Saturday, Oceanside Police report. 1 dead, 1 injured after pursuit crash in Logan Heights; DUI suspected According to police, the vehicle that hit the pedestrians took off and a bystander followed it until officers were able to bring the suspect into custody.
