Broccoli bears the brunt of drought as farmers warn of shortages
The veg box supplier Oddbox has warned of shortages of broccoli after months of drought have left farmers battling 'one of the most extreme' growing seasons in memory. The company is the latest producer to warn consumers of the impact that prolonged dry weather has had on supplies. Oddbox told customers that with only a few months left in the season, rainfall has been 55 per cent below the long-term average and has caused crops, including broccoli, to be in short supply. 'After heaps of hot weather, classic British summer has finally kicked in with a few rainy days cropping up. But as it's been so dry for so long now, our growers are in a bit of a bind,' the company said in a note that had been sent to customers.
