Nice In Talks Over Move for 27-year-old Crystal Palace Forward
Nice Step Up Pursuit of Crystal Palace Striker Odsonne Edouard OGC Nice are working to strengthen their forward line and have turned their attention to the Premier League. Foot Mercato reports that 'Indeed, Nice has been making inroads with Crystal Palace in recent days regarding Odsonne Edouard (27 years old). The Frenchman, who already turned down Girona this summer, wants to join the Aiglons.' Edouard, who has previously represented Paris Saint-Germain and Toulouse FC, would bring valuable Ligue 1 experience to Franck Haise's side. Having spent the last three years at Crystal Palace, the striker's Premier League pedigree is well established, but the chance to return to France appears to appeal strongly. French Roots and Ligue 1 Experience Born in Kourou, French Guiana, Edouard joined PSG's youth system before making his name at Celtic, where he became one of the Scottish Premiership's most prolific forwards. His return to France with Nice would not only reunite him with Ligue 1 football but also allow him to slot into a system where his blend of strength, movement and finishing could flourish. Photo: IMAGO His knowledge of French football could ease his transition and offer Nice a proven option to lead the line. For a team competing near the top of Ligue 1, his ability to contribute goals immediately would be a key selling point. Transfer Market Strategy While Nice are reportedly exploring the Italian market with interest in Inter's Mehdi Taremi, their focus on Edouard shows a willingness to invest in attacking quality with top-flight experience. His rejection of Girona earlier this summer suggests he is selective about his next move, prioritising both the level of competition and the club's ambitions. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, may weigh up whether to cash in on a player entering the final stages of his contract cycle, particularly if Oliver Glasner has other forward options ready to step in. Nice's ongoing dialogue with the London club signals serious intent, but no fee has yet been agreed. Photo: IMAGO Potential Impact at Nice If the deal is completed, Edouard would arrive as a player familiar with the demands of top-tier football, capable of leading the attack in domestic and European fixtures. His combination of physical presence and technical skill could add variety to Nice's attacking options, while also providing a clinical edge in front of goal. For Edouard, this would represent a return to the country where his career began and an opportunity to re-establish himself as a consistent goalscorer in Ligue 1. For Nice, it could be the decisive signing to maintain momentum in a competitive season. Our View – EPL Index Analysis Edouard's potential departure will divide opinion among Palace fans. While some supporters appreciate his work rate and flashes of quality, others have questioned his consistency in front of goal. Selling him could provide funds to strengthen other areas, particularly if Palace secure a solid replacement quickly. For Nice supporters, the move would be seen as a strong statement of intent. Landing a forward with Premier League experience and Ligue 1 familiarity could significantly boost their attacking threat. Fans would expect him to adapt quickly and contribute goals immediately, especially given his experience across multiple leagues. This transfer also reflects Nice's broader ambition to compete for European places while maintaining a balance between proven performers and emerging talent. For both sets of fans, the key question will be whether the deal benefits their club's long-term ambitions, and whether Edouard can deliver consistently at the highest level.

Odsonne Edouard ends Celtic transfer return talk as Crystal Palace cut losses on striker for cut-price fee
The French hitman is on the verge of completing a move to La Liga cracks Girona Odsonne Edouard will kickstart his career in La Liga after jumping at the chance to end his Crystal Palace nightmare. The ex- Celtic hero was farmed out on loan to Leicester City last season but endured a miserable year and played a single minute under Ruud van Nistelrooij. Frozen-out Edouard hasn't kicked ball since coming off the bench as an 88th-minute sub in November's 3-0 defeat at Manchester United. He returned to Selhurst Park in the summer, aiming to salvage his career with the FA Cup winners. But after being told he wouldn't figure as part of Oliver Glasner's plans, Edouard is on the verge of completing a move to Girona. Edouard moves to Spain as part of a swap deal that will see Arnau Martínez head in the opposite direction for a fee of £8.7million, according to Foot Mercato. It also sees Crystal Palace cut their losses on Edouard after splashing out £14million to land the frontman from Parkhead in summer 2021. Girona are understood to have agreed a cut-price deal worth £5.2m, with Edouard in the final year of his contract at the Eagles. Former PSG kid Edouard scored 21 goals in just over a century of appearances for Palace. Now the 27-year-old - who was linked with a shock return to Celtic earlier this summer - could partner ex-Aberdeen star Bojan Miovski at Girona. But he insists he's not even considered a swoop for ex-hero Edouard who is exiting Crystal Palace. He said: 'Odsonne hasn't been on my radar, to be fair. 'I obviously know him but it's about a player who will fit into the structure of the team.' Rodgers also insists he's not on the look-out for a big name signing, adding: 'I'm not worried so much about a big name. 'It's about the collective of the team. 'Big names don't always give you want you need. This team needs hunger, goals and work rate and intensity. 'Big names don't always give you that. It's about big players. 'I just want players who are hungry to learn but also ready now. 'There are lots of players linked with us.' Lisbon training camp latest as Hoops close in on sixth summer signing But Yamada is on his way, Rodgers added: 'He'll have a medical over the next couple of days and we'll have a look at him. 'We've lost a lot of goals so we need to replace that. Hopefully this can be one of a number of players we can bring in that aspect. 'He's got intensity and workrate. It's something the scouts have seen. 'In terms of the club, we will bring in players to develop and players for now. Even though he's a bit older, he's probably one of those that can give us that intensity and pressure. 'I need to look and see him when he comes in and hopefully he can do well. The idea was to bring him in and assess him. 'He's a strong boy – but we'd want to add to our front line also.' Celts beat Sporting Lisbon 2-0 in Faro with Reo Hatate and Luke McCowan scoring. Rodgers added: 'It was excellent. It was always going to be a very good test against a team with very good players who play their system very well. 4 'I thought out pressing was good and we had to be brave. We did that and played well through the thirds. 'We could have finished off a few more moves but we looked very good for this stage of preseason. 'It's about consistently improving.' Adam Idah missed two first-half chances to score before being subbed at the break. Rodgers added: 'He needs to come alive. 'You can't be caught thinking at this level 'You have to anticipate and move and then have authority in the box. I know he can score goals and it's also the time of pre-season.
