Did Fahadh Faasil back out of Alejandro González Iñárritu's film with Tom Cruise? Actor reveals he did not ‘feel a fire…'

Fahadh Faasil is gearing up for the release of his comedy drama, Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira (OKCK). Ahead of the film's theatrical release on August 29, 2025, the actor spoke about why he backed out of an international movie. Did Fahadh Faasil back out of Alejandro González Iñárritu's movie with Tom Cruise? In an interview with The Cue Studio, Fahadh Faasil was asked about being called for an international film. However, the actor clarified that the director was unimpressed with his accent and had asked him to stay in the USA for 4 months, without remuneration. In his own words, 'He didn't like me. After the audition, they rejected me. Actually, he didn't reject me, but he had concerns about my accent. They asked me to stay in the USA for 3.5-4 months, that too without payment. That is why I decided to let it go; otherwise, I would've done it. I didn't feel a fire within me to take such efforts.' With the host mentioned Alejandro González Iñárritu by name, Fahadh added, 'If not for the audition, I don't think I would have even had a chance of being considered for it. However, I spoke with him on a video call, and I think after that conversation, he figured I was not the guy he was looking for.' While Fahadh himself hasn't taken the name of Alejandro González Iñárritu, several reports suggest that the Maamannan actor was considered for a role. Speculations indicate that the film might be Iñárritu's upcoming venture with Tom Cruise; however, this hasn't been confirmed yet. Who is Alejandro González Iñárritu? Alejandro González Iñárritu is a Mexican filmmaker known for making several psychological dramas. The director made his debut in feature films back in 2000 with Amores perros. Later on, he made several notable ventures, including 21 Grams, Babel, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), The Revenant, and more. Iñárritu's next film is touted to be a black comedy venture with Tom Cruise in the lead with an ensemble cast of Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D'Arcy, Robert John Burke, and more. Fahadh Faasil is next set to appear in the movie Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira (marketed in English as Who Let the Horse Out?). The romantic comedy film was written and directed by Althaf Salim, with Kalyani Priyadarshan as the co-lead.

‘Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira' trailer: Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan chase a dreamy white horse; promises madcap romance

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) The much-awaited trailer of 'Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira', starring Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan , has dropped, and it's every bit as whimsical and offbeat as the title suggests. A dream that starts it all The story kicks off with Kalyani's character waking up startled, telling her fiancé Aby (played by Fahadh) that she's had 'that magnificent dream' again — one involving a horse 'that looked like a piece of plump, white halwa. ' Aby, baffled yet intrigued, decides to make the dream come true. The hunt for the halwa-horse Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira |Official Trailer | Fahadh Faasil, Kalyani | Althaf Salim | Ashiq Usman Determined to win her over, Aby embarks on an unusual mission to track down this fantasy creature. With the help of a friend, he actually manages to find a horse, hoping it will match the one from her dream. But what starts as a romantic gesture takes a wild turn when Aby realises — on his wedding day no less — that Kalyani's character might be a little more unpredictable than he bargained for. The trailer teases a fast-paced, laughter-filled romance that refuses to follow the rules. Mad love, familiar magic Directed and written by Althaf Salim, with music by Justin Varghese, the film's tone is refreshingly lighthearted and packed with visual comedy. Cinematic Easter eggs sneak in too — including a cheeky nod to the white horse Dulquer Salmaan chased in 'Charlie' which is revealed via a voiceover at the end of the trailer. Alongside Fahadh and Kalyani, the cast boasts Revathi Pillai, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Lal, Johny Antony, Vinay Forrt, and Rafi. The film promises a strong supporting ensemble to keep the madness rolling. Lal's performamce, as shown in the trailer, surely seems to be the main highlight. With an August 29 release, 'Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira' looks set to deliver a unique mix of romance, absurdity, and charm. The expectations are surely high for the Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan starrer.

Four Malayalam films set for Onam release as industry hopes for box office revival

KOCHI: With four Malayalam films scheduled to be released this Onam season, industry stakeholders have their fingers crossed, eager for strong box office performances. Given that cinemas in the state have been struggling for footfall since Mohanlal-starrer Thudarum went off the screens, film buffs too are waiting to see another Mollywood blockbuster. Lined up for release are Hridayapoorvam, Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, Lokah, and Maine Pyaar Kiya. Industry insiders believe that these films, with proven as well as fresh faces headlining them, have the potential to attract audiences. 'Hridayapoorvam is a much-anticipated film. A Fahadh Faasil film too is set for release. Also, the audiences now don't look for names and stars. If the content and story are good, they will come to the cinemas. We expect a good box office collection for the upcoming films,' producer and theatre owner Liberty Basheer told the TNIE. The Mohanlal-Sathyan Anthikad combo's Hridayapoorvam is set for release on August 28 while Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira starring Fahadh and Kalyani Priyadharshan, Lokah featuring Naslen and Kalyani Priyadarshan, and Hridu Haroon-Preity Mukhundhan's Maine Pyaar Kiya will be released on August 29. 'These films are of four different genres,' said K Vijayakumar, president of the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEOUK). 'The audience will also have an opportunity to watch different films on various subjects. Also, we have high expectations for Rajinikanth's Coolie, which is set for an August 14 release.' Balti, starring Shane Nigam, too was slated to be released ahead of Onam, but it has been postponed. 'For the past few months, the cinemas in the state have been struggling as there aren't any hit films. Mohanlal's Thudarum, which was released in April this year, was the last superhit Malayalam film. The box office collection of Ronth was relatively better. We expect the Onam releases to breathe life back into cinemas in Kerala,' Basheer added. After Thudarum, the cinemas in Kerala have been empty, pointed out Vijayakumar. 'The other language films released recently haven't been able to bring in audiences. The new films will hopefully solve the financial crisis cinemas are currently facing,' he said. Tovino Thomas' Ajayante Randam Moshanam, Antony Varghese's Kondal, and Kishkindha Kandam starring Asif Ali and Vijayaraghavan were the Onam releases last year.
