Army Chief Hails Operation Sindoor as landmark in India's counter-terrorism doctrine

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi lauded Operation Sindoor as a pivotal, intelligence-driven mission that redefined India's counter-terrorism approach, showcasing the Armed Forces' capability to address evolving warfare challenges and readiness for fifth-generation conflicts, in Chennai on Monday (August 4, 2025). General Dwivedi inaugurated the research facility 'Agnishodh', a joint project of the Indian Army Research Cell (IARC) and the IIT Madras campus on the campus for self reliance in defence technology. Addressing a gathering at IIT Madras on the theme 'Operation Sindoor – A New Chapter in India's Fight Against Terrorism,' General Dwivedi described the operation as a landmark, intelligence-driven response that redefined India's counter-terrorism doctrine. Unprecedented operation He noted that the 88-hour operation was unprecedented in scale, range, depth, and strategic impact, and was executed across the DIME spectrum. Highlighting the evolving nature of warfare, he underscored that Indian Armed Forces are prepared for fifth-generation conflicts driven by non-contact warfare, strategic tempo, and psychological dominance. Emphasising the Indian Army's commitment to self-reliance under 'Swadeshikaran Se Sashaktikaran,' he outlined key collaborations under national technology missions such as INDIAai, Chip-to-Startup, and Project QuILA, with MCTE Mhow as a strategic partner. He appreciated the projects undertaken by Indian Army Cells at IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, and IISc Bengaluru by harnessing academic innovations. Visit to Officers Training Academy General Dwivedi also visited the Officers Training Academy (OTA), where he was briefed on the academy's infrastructure, modern training methodologies, and initiatives undertaken to prepare future military leaders for contemporary challenges. He lauded the efforts of the instructional staff in fostering excellence and instilling core military values among cadets. During his address, General Dwivedi highlighted the transformative journey of the Indian Army, underlining the changing character of warfare marked by grey zone conflicts, technological democratisation and need for integrated responses. Reflecting on Operation Sindoor, he stated that the tri-services offensive showcased India's ability to deliver precise, punitive and coordinated action, compelling Pakistan to seek a ceasefire within 88 hours. He emphasised that future conflicts would demand a blend of conventional strength and modern capabilities, where 'boots must share space with bots.' He reiterated Indian Army's commitment to its 'decade of transformation' through various reforms.

The registration window is active from July 16 to August 14, 2025, and applications must be submitted online through the official website – A total of 379 vacancies are available, including 350 for male candidates and 29 for female candidates. Shortlisted candidates will then be called for the SSB (Services Selection Board) interview, a five-day assessment process conducted at designated centres across India. Those who clear the SSB interview will undergo a thorough medical examination to ensure they meet the physical and medical standards required for military service. Candidates who qualify all stages will be selected for training. The selected candidates will undergo 49 weeks of pre-commission training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai. Post Ahmedabad flight crash, AAI undertakes full-scale emergency exercise at Chennai airport

Following the flight crash at Ahmedabad, Airports Authority of India carried out a full-scale emergency exercise on Saturday at Chennai airport to assess the preparedness. This was part of the periodic testing of the 'Airport Emergency Plan' and was done with the objective of examining the airport's preparedness and coordination efforts between various agencies when a major aircraft accident occurs within the vicinity of the airport, according to a press release. During the drill, they simulated the crash of a commercial aircraft with 50 passengers and five crew members, shortly after take-off and its effect on the location close to the airport, near the Officers Training Academy. Following a distress call received by Air Traffic Control, emergency was initiated, fire tower was alerted, and emergency response protocol was triggered. The fire services deployed crash tenders and simulated post-crash fire was mitigated, and it enabled beginning of rescue operations. After the injured passengers were rushed to medical facilities in ambulances, CISF cordoned off the crash site and set up a Quick Reaction Team perimeter. The aircraft's Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder (Black Box) were located and secured subsequently, the release said. A structured debriefing was conducted post-exercise to assess performance metrics, response time compliance, inter agency coordination and to identify potential areas for procedural enhancement, the release said.
