Michael Jackson's Hugely Popular Collection Reaches A Landmark Figure
Michael Jackson's The Essential hits 208 weeks on the U.K.'s Official Albums chart, joining ... More Thriller, Off the Wall, and Number Ones in achieving that feat. VARIOUS, VARIOUS - JUNE 25: **IMAGE RESTRICTED - NOT AVAILABLE FOR USE IN A NORTH AMERICAN MAGAZINE COVER UNTIL JULY 11, 2009** Michael Jackson performs in concert circa 1995. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/WireImage) Michael Jackson's collection of hit singles is so vast and so popular – even to this day – that at least one of his albums remains a fixture on the charts in the United Kingdom. While the specific title that appears may change over time, it's often one compilation or another that earns a spot, as it's typically powered by streams of his many smashes. Several of these collections have managed lengthy stays on the Official Albums chart, and this week, one of his most successful releases reaches a special milestone. The Essential — one of the countless hit-packed sets released by Jackson and his estate over the years — has now spent 208 weeks on the Official Albums chart. The tally ranks the most consumed full-lengths of any kind in the U.K., whether they be traditional studio LPs or compilations, and it's where Jackson can almost always be found. This frame, The Essential dips slightly from No. 17 to No. 20, which is an impressive placement for a project that has now spent four full years on the roster. The Essential is the fourth Jackson release to reach that milestone on the main albums chart in the U.K. The gathering of beloved tunes trails far behind another compilation, Number Ones, which leads all of Jackson's efforts, with 587 frames spent on the Official Albums ranking. In between the two compilations are Thriller and Off the Wall, with 261 and 225 weeks on the tally, respectively. Streaming activity is largely responsible for keeping The Essential going strong. While the set doesn't appear on any of the U.K.-based lists of top-selling albums, it does climb on the Official Albums Streaming chart. This week, it rises from No. 14 to No. 11, nearly reentering the top 10. Just a few weeks ago, it celebrated 10 years — a full decade — on the list of the most-streamed collections in the nation. Originally released in the summer of 2005, The Essential shot to No. 1 in the U.K. and is one of Jackson's 10 chart-topping projects in the country. It's the go-to release for many fans in the country whenever they want to hear one of his timeless tunes, and like a handful of other superstar projects, The Essential may always have a space on the ranking — at least unless it's eventually replaced by another compilation.

Billie Eilish's Entire Catalog Has Now Reached The Same Milestone
Billie Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft celebrates 52 weeks on the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart, ... More marking her fourth release to reach that milestone. UNSPECIFIED: (EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE) In this image released on August 11, Billie Eilish performs at the LA28 Olympic Games Handover Celebration. (Photo byfor LA28) Billie Eilish has only released three full-length albums — an incredible stat to ponder, considering how hugely successful she has become. She first made her name with the short project Don't Smile at Me, an EP that preceded her debut album and introduced her to the world, and which also became a big commercial win. As of this week, all of her releases have now reached the same important milestone in the United Kingdom. People in that country just can't seem to stop streaming and buying all the music the young talent has made, and their continued listening has kept her trio of full-lengths and her EP on the tally for a landmark length of time. Hit Me Hard and Soft, Eilish's latest full-length, has now spent 52 weeks on the Official Albums Chart. In fact, the title hits that milestone on four different rosters, including those dedicated to streaming activity and pure purchases. This week, Hit Me Hard and Soft is falling on all four of the tallies on which it appears, and the same can be said for her other two projects, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Happier Than Ever. Hit Me Hard and Soft is her top performer at the moment, sitting just below the top 10 on both the Official Albums and Official Albums Streaming charts, while dipping below the top 40 on the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums rankings. Eilish has sent four projects to the Official Albums chart, the U.K.'s ranking of the most consumed albums and full-lengths in the country. Now that Hit Me Hard and Soft celebrates 52 weeks on the tally, all four of them have made it to that milestone, and the other three have pushed far beyond it. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? is Eilish's longest-charting success, having just recently passed the 250-frame mark. Don't Smile at Me isn't far behind, with 246 stays on the list. Happier Than Ever, her sophomore set, is up to 139 weeks. All three of Eilish's full-lengths have reached No. 1 on the Official Albums chart, as well as on almost every other ranking. Only Don't Smile at Me missed out — not just on the throne, but even the top 10, as it peaked at No. 12. Hit Me Hard and Soft is largely being powered by several singles that are still performing well in the U.K., though the set is popular as a whole as well. "Birds of a Feather" is flying high inside the top 40, while "Wildflower" barely manages to hold on, dropping to No. 96 on the main singles tally. Both tunes can be found on the Official Streaming chart as well, and "Birds of a Feather" remains a bestseller on multiple rosters as well.

Taylor Swift's Downward Shift Is Unusual For Her
Taylor Swift has six albums on the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart this week — and all of them trending ... More downward, led by The Tortured Poets Department at No. 30. NEWARK, NEW JERSEY - SEPTEMBER 12: Taylor Swift attends the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards at Prudential Center on September 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey. (Photo byfor MTV) Taylor Swift often dominates rankings of the top-performing albums in most Western markets. Some frames are bigger than others when it comes to her extensive discography, and while the most successful superstar on the planet rarely has a truly lackluster week, it's unusual to see none of her albums climbing. A mix of continued fan activity and varying levels of competition typically works in Swift's favor, allowing at least one project to gain ground. This time around in the United Kingdom, however, her discography is uniformly trending downward. Swift currently occupies six spots on the Official Albums chart in the U.K. She sees half a dozen of her collections rank among the 100 most-consumed releases in the nation on the list that blends both sales and streaming activity. While holding onto that many positions is a surefire sign her music is still reaching a massive audience, all of those titles are currently on the decline. The Tortured Poets Department is Swift's highest-charting effort this frame, dipping two spots to No. 30. It's her only top 40 placement in the U.K. at this time. Folklore, Lover, 1989 (Taylor's Version), Midnights, and Reputation also appear on the Official Albums chart, landing at Nos. 59, 62, 70, 79, and 80, respectively. Midnights takes the biggest hit, sliding nine spaces. While all six of those titles may be on the way down, each has previously conquered the Official Albums Chart. All of them have spent more than a year on the ranking, with The Tortured Poets Department being the newest. That full-length has logged just 56 stays on the list — a number that's sure to grow, as the project is only slightly more than a year old. The story of Swift's performance changes when looking at the Official Country Artists Albums chart. That genre-specific tally includes two of the Grammy winner's efforts — Fearless (Taylor's Version) and her self-titled debut. Both projects manage slight upward movement, but neither performs well enough to appear on the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed studio albums in the European nation.
