(Reuters) -Ukraine launched a drone attack on the Sergiyev Posad district near Moscow early on Friday, injuring one person and damaging power infrastructure, the head of the district said. "I ask everyone to remain calm, not to approach the windows, not to photograph the work of the air defence," Oksana Yerokhanova wrote in a post on the Telegram messaging app. She said that at least four explosions were recorded throughout the district - some 75 km (47 miles) from the Kremlin - and that a power substation was damaged, leaving parts of the district without electricity. The district's administrative centre, the town of Sergiyev Posad, is considered the religious centre of the Moscow Region and a spiritual heart of Russia's Orthodox Church. The city's monastery, the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius that was founded in the 14th century, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the southern Russian region of Rostov a woman was killed as a result of Ukraine's drone attack, which damaged several apartment buildings and forced the evacuation of scores of people from their homes, the acting governor of the region said on Friday. The scale of the attack on Russia was not immediately known. There was no comment from Ukraine. Kyiv says that its attacks inside Russia are aimed at destroying infrastructure key to Moscow's war efforts and are in response to continuous Russian strikes on Ukraine. Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war that Russia launched with a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. But thousands of civilians have died in the conflict, the vast majority of them Ukrainian.

At least one civilian was killed and several others injured as Ukrainian drones targeted multiple regions of Russia overnight, damaging residential buildings and infrastructure, local authorities have said. A woman died in Rostov Region when a drone crashed into an apartment building in the village of Dolotinka, acting Governor Yury Slyusar confirmed early Friday morning. The two-story residential block partially collapsed after the impact, killing a retired woman who had worked as a teacher. Twenty residents were evacuated, and emergency teams were dispatched to the site. The drone raids also affected the Azov and Tarasovsky districts in Rostov Region. In Azov, a blast shattered windows in a residential building, and debris from another drone landed on a local stadium. No casualties were reported in those incidents. At least four drones were reported to have crashed in the Sergiyevo-Posadsky District of Moscow Region, according to Governor Andrey Vorobyov. Two civilians were injured, including a 60-year-old man who suffered a closed head injury and lost three teeth, and a 40-year-old man who sustained an open neck wound and a chest contusion. The drone strike also damaged a local substation, causing temporary power outages in several neighborhoods, according to the head of the Sergiyevo-Posadsky District, Oksana Yerokhanova. Emergency services and energy workers remain on-site to restore electricity and assess the damage. Officials said Russian air defenses successfully engaged most incoming targets but acknowledged that some drones penetrated the defenses, causing 'tragic consequences.' The Russian Defense Ministry said a total of 48 drones were intercepted over five regions overnight, including 26 in Rostov, 12 in Kursk, six in Belgorod, three in Oryol, and one in Lipetsk Region. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have claimed that the Russian military launched a wave of missile and drone strikes targeting Kiev. Multiple blurred-out videos shared on Ukrainian social media appeared to show the aftermath, with numerous fires lighting up the city skyline. The Russian Defense Ministry has yet to issue an official statement regarding the reported strike. However, it regularly conducts missile and drone operations against Ukrainian military infrastructure, maintaining that it does not target civilians and accusing Kiev of placing air defense systems in densely populated areas.
