Europe's Season of Humiliation Will Last for a While
The European Union's tariff deal with the US — roundly criticized across the Old Continent as tantamount to surrender, submission and humiliation — somehow looks worse today than when it was unveiled on Sunday by a beaming Donald Trump and a rather less effusive Ursula von der Leyen. While the final levy of 15% imposed on EU goods came as a relief for financial markets, claims of a new era of ' stability ' for transatlantic relations increasingly ring hollow. Pharmaceutical products are still at risk of a US investigation and there are conflicting narratives on where 50% steel tariffs go from here, according to Bloomberg Economics. The Trump administration could come back for more if it deems the EU in breach of pledges of mammoth investments, including $750 billion of energy products. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Tuesday sounded eager to rehash grievances over how the EU regulates tech firms such as Meta Platforms Inc.

Donald Trump and His Messy Version of Montesquieu's 'Doux Commerce'
Réservé aux abonnés The president of the United States has once again changed the rules of the game when it comes to dealing with Europe. 'We now find ourselves in the situation of a player who realizes with astonishment that his partner's hand is giving him face cards he has never seen before and that the rules of the game are changing with each move.' Nearly a century after these lines were written by French poet and philosopher Paul Valéry in Regards sur le monde actuel ('Reflections on the World Today'), Europe is once again experiencing this feeling of disorientation. With each of his moves, Donald Trump seems to be changing the rules of the trade negotiation game. On July 12 — three days after the fateful July 9 deadline, which had already been extended by 90 days, and on which nothing happened in the end — the U.S. president sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, announcing the increase in customs duties on exports from the Old Continent to 30%, starting Aug. 1. [A new agreement, reached on July 27, includes establishing a 15% tariff on European exports to the U.S. EU steel and aluminium…

2027 BMW M5 LCI Spied With Cleaner Neue Klasse Looks
By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. 2027 BMW M5 Will Move The Game Forward Our spies on the Old Continent have caught the facelift of the G90 BMW M5, and they tell us to expect plenty of changes, and not just on the surface. The current super sedan and its wagon sibling were only introduced a year ago, but BMW is not one to withhold new technology or even new design cues for future generations. Instead, the M5's mid-cycle update, or Life Cycle Impulse, as BMW calls it, will bring with it a look inspired by the Vision Neue Klasse concept and an interior with BMW's new Panoramic iDrive system, which was previewed at the Consumer Electronics Show at the beginning of the year. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:10 Full screen 2026 Audi A6 Avant debuts to fight BMW 5 Series Touring Watch More Similar Styling Across All Upcoming Bimmers The new M5 will change little about its lower front and rear fascias, but the top half of each end of the car will gain completely new lighting units. At the front, the trademark kidney grilles will frame the width of the car, with Iconic Glow illumination giving the M5 a distinctive nighttime signature. Moving backward, the hood may be slightly massaged, but the wing mirrors seem unchanged, as do most of the other body lines, including the door panels and side skirts. Interestingly, however, the roof does not appear to be made of carbon fiber or BMW's incoming plant-based alternative, and we don't see a recess down its spine as on the current M5. Recent leaks reveal that the next-generation M3 is unlikely to get a composite roof either, but perhaps BMW wants to reserve that for Competition models, as was once the case. 2027 BMW M5 May Be Ridiculously Expensive At the back of the M5 LCI, the new taillight clusters are still placeholder units that won't be offered to customers, but their shape indicates that they won't deviate much from the current design. Future M cars are expected to have unique headlight graphics (and possibly colors), so we expect something similar at the rear. Then again, a quad-exit exhaust with a massive diffuser panel may be enough. We're not expecting much in the way of changes under the hood. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain will carry over, and our spies say we should not expect any increases in output (a combined 717 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, for the record). A debut will happen sometime in 2026, possibly near the end of the year. Unfortunately, even though the M5 was just hit with a price increase for the 2026 model year, our spies say the facelift will cost around €150,000, or over $176,000. That's more than 50 grand pricier than the M5 is today, so we hope BMW can justify the extra outlay. Less weight, perhaps? We can only hope… Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Research and compare vehicles, too. Honda Bids Europe Farewell with Final Civic Type R ‘Ultimate Edition'
The FL5 Honda Civic Type is on its way out in the Old Continent. This is its final hurrah. Why FL5 Civic Type R Is Bowing Out The sixth-gen Honda Civic Type R has had a wonderful run. Introduced in 2022, the Japanese hot hatch set numerous lap records for a front-wheel-drive model in various countries during its reign – the most famous of which was its stint at the dreaded Nürburgring. Its race car spin-offs were also a roaring success, including regional touring car championships. However, the FL5 Civic Type R is nearing the end of its life cycle, with production halted due to ever-changing European legislation regarding more stringent emission laws for vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. Of course, Honda isn't letting it go without a proper send-off: meet the Civic Type R 'Ultimate Edition.' Civic Type R Ultimate Edition: What Makes It Special The Civic Type R Ultimate Edition is exclusively sold in Honda's Championship White signature paint color. What sets it apart from other red-badged Honda Civics is bespoke red decals across the hood and the sides, with red stripes to match the iconic Type R logo. The roof is also painted black, while carbon detailing is added to the rear wing and doorstep garnish. Inside, Honda added carbon accents to the center console panel. Ambient lights are also enhanced, found on the door lining, cup holder, center console, footwell, and under the seats. There's also an exclusive Type R projection when doors are opened, working as puddle lights for the occupants. A Limited Farewell: Only 40 Units for Europe Apart from being the last of its kind, the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition will also be limited – only 40 units will be available across Europe. Each lucky owner will get a special celebratory gift box containing a numbered emblem (1 to 40), a carbon key ring, custom-made floor mats, and a car cover. Pricing for the Ultimate Edition wasn't disclosed, but we'd wager it won't be cheap considering that the regular Civic Type R isn't exactly affordable in the Old Continent. US availability is unknown at this point, but we expect a similar send-off from the automaker's American division. What's Next For Honda's Iconic Hot Hatch? Honda hasn't fully committed to its plan for the next-generation Civic Type R, but electrification is rumored to be in the cards. That said, Honda is adamant about keeping the fun character of the Type R despite getting battery power, so that's something we can watch out for in the next few years. Honda Says It's Forced to Kill The Civic Type R In Europe
Honda is saying sayonara to the Civic Type R in Europe with a final send-off aptly named the Ultimate Edition. Sales of the Japanese hot hatch will come to an end next year on the Old Continent. Before it bows out, the compact performance car is available in any color you like as long as it's Championship White. To spice things up, red stripes accent the hood and sides, while the roof comes exclusively in black. To sweeten the deal, Honda includes a carbon fiber rear wing on the Ultimate Edition. More carbon fiber appears inside, with door sill trims and a center console upgrade, while eye-catching red floor mats feature a metal Type R badge. To drive home the point that this isn't your average Civic, projectors built into the front doors display a red and white Type R logo. As a final treat for European buyers, the send-off comes with a gift box containing a carbon key ring, a numbered emblem, and even a car cover. Photo by: Honda Mechanically, nothing changes. The Civic Type R Ultimate Edition retains its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, producing 324 horsepower and 310 pound-feet (420 Newton-meters) of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, enabling a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 5.4 seconds. So why is the Civic Type R leaving Europe anyway? Honda says it's essentially being forced to retire the CTR. Hannah Swift, Head of European Strategy and Product, notes that 'The industry is changing, and our model range is having to evolve with it in accordance with European legislation.' In other words, stricter emissions regulations have claimed another victim. Pricing details haven't been disclosed, but the Civic Type R is already notoriously expensive in several European markets, thanks to steep taxes on high-emission vehicles. In the Netherlands, for example, the standard CTR is already a $100,000 + car, before options. While the hot hatch is on its way out, Europeans can take some solace in knowing a different kind of sporty Honda is on the horizon. The reborn Prelude will arrive in the first half of 2026 as a 2+2 coupe with a hybrid powertrain and simulated gear shifts. It's unlikely to match the CTR's engagement, but at least some of the fun lives on. 2026 Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition 7 Source: Honda Catch Up With Honda: Honda Is Developing a Powerful Hybrid For America The New Honda GT Is a Screen Nightmare Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox, daily. back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use .
