Social media chefs cook world's biggest scotch egg

Two social media chefs have become Guinness World Record holders for creating the world's biggest scotch egg. Phoenix Ross and Oli Paterson cooked the gigantic 17 lb 3.48 oz snack - which is larger than a bowling ball - in Enfield, London, on June 17. The pair broke the original record of 13 lb 10 oz, which had stood for almost 20 years. To qualify for the title, the egg had to follow the traditional method - including a fully intact yolk. After the duo's first attempt fell apart mid-fry, they used a whole ostrich egg (11.5 cm width), wrapped it in sausage meat (6 cm thick), coated it in breadcrumbs, and then deep-fried the scotch egg (79.5 cm circumference). As the ostrich shell was sturdy, Phoenix and Oli cut it open with a sword, and served up mini versions for scale, and rolled the giant egg into burritos to freeze for later. The pair said: "Oh my god, it's beautiful."

UK Chefs Set World Record By Cooking Largest Scotch Egg, Heavier Than A Bowling Ball

A scotch egg is a boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried. It is the ultimate picnic snack in the UK. Now, two UK-based chefs and content creators have cooked up the world's largest scotch egg. Making a new Guinness World Record, chefs Phoenix Ross and Oli Paterson smashed the previous 6.2 kg record that had stood for almost two decades. The duo cooked up this supersized snack weighing a whopping 7.81 kg in Enfield, UK, on June 17, 2025. This snack turned out heavier than a standard bowling ball, which weighs around 7.25 kg. To make this record-breaking scotch egg, Phoenix (@shef_phoenix) and Oli (@elburritomonster) used an ostrich egg - the largest egg produced by any living bird. Fun fact: an average ostrich egg is equivalent to two dozen hen's eggs and is so strong it can withstand the weight of a 115 kg person. Their first try literally fell apart at the final hurdle when they lifted it out of the fryer. But the determined creators didn't give up, and on their second attempt, they achieved the feat. To qualify for the record, their gigantic scotch egg had to be made exactly like the regular version - hard-boiled, wrapped in sausage meat, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried - with the yolk fully intact when cut open. To slice open their egg-cellent creation, they used a literal sword. The yolk inside was fully intact, and the chefs happily took bites of this gigantic egg snack.

Watch: British chefs cook up world's largest scotch egg

July 16 (UPI) -- Two British social media chefs teamed up to cook the world's largest scotch egg, which weighed in at a whopping 17 pounds and 3.48 ounces. Phoenix Ross and Oli Paterson came together in Enfield, England, to attempt to break the Guinness World Record of 13 pounds and 10 ounces, which had stood for nearly 20 years. The duo used an ostrich egg as the core of their scotch egg, a traditional food comprised of a hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat, coated in bread crumbs and fried. The chefs said their first attempt ended in disaster when the savory snack fell apart while being lifted from the fryer. The successful second attempt had a circumference of 31.3 inches and tipped the scales at 17 pounds and 3.48 ounces. The chefs sampled bits of the finished product before cutting it into small portions and using it to create frozen breakfast burritos.
