Oasis Charts The Top Two Albums As The Band Reunites

Oasis dominates the U.K. Albums chart with Time Flies… 1994–2009 at No. 1 and (What's the Story) ... More Morning Glory? at No. 2 as the band's reunion tour kicks off. Fans of British rock band Oasis take a selfie as they arrive at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on July 4, 2025, to attend the opening concert of their highly anticipated reunion tour nearly 16 years after last performing together. Two consecutive nights of concerts at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital mark the start of a 41-date run of gigs spanning the world. The rock superstars kicked off the trek in Cardiff, Wales, on July 4, and the musicians are spending July and the first half of August performing massive shows in England and Scotland. Oasis was always going to have an incredible few weeks on the U.K. music charts around the beginning of the tour, but the group's performance has turned out to be even more impressive than some might have imagined. Oasis Claims the Two Biggest Albums in the U.K. It's incredibly rare for any one musical act to fill the highest two spaces on the roster of the most-consumed albums in the nation, but that's exactly what Oasis manages this week. The fact that the rockers can do so with projects that have already been out in the world for years and have moved millions is an incredible feat. Time Flies... 1994–2009 shoots from No. 6 to No. 1 on the Official Albums chart this week. It's followed closely by (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, which bolts from No. 14 to the runner-up spot. Three Oasis Albums Hit the Top Five Definitely Maybe rockets from No. 26 to No. 4, meaning the group almost claimed the three biggest albums in the U.K. this week. Short n' Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter blocks the rockers from doing so, as it keeps at No. 3. Time Flies Reigns Again Time Flies... 1994–2009 has now spent just two weeks at No. 1 on the Official Albums chart. The compilation, which gathers together many of the most famous Oasis tunes, launched in first place in June 2010. It has taken until now for the project to return to the summit, though it has come close to doing so on more than one occasion. 600 Weeks on the Chart Time Flies... 1994–2009 and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? are counted among the eight Oasis albums that have hit No. 1 on the main ranking in the U.K. Both of those projects have spent more than 600 weeks on the roster, while Definitely Maybe passed that milestone just days ago.

Create Account The shock deaths of Jota, 28, and Andre Silva, 25, on July 3 plunged the football world into mourning, less than two weeks after the striker had got married. An ongoing investigation is examining 'the marks left by one of the vehicle's wheels… everything points to a possible excessive speed beyond the road's speed limit', the Civil Guard said. Speed limits on Spanish motorways are generally set at 120 kilometres per hour (75 miles per hour). The site of the accident on the A-52 route in the northwestern province of Zamora was on a stretch of fairly straight road approaching a bend. The Civil Guard had previously said a tyre had probably blown out while the vehicle was overtaking, causing it to crash and burst into flames. 'All the tests conducted so far indicate that the driver of the vehicle was Diogo Jota,' the force added on Tuesday. Just hours before the accident, Jota had posted a video of his June 22 wedding to partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children. Portuguese and UK media reported Jota was driving to the northern Spanish port of Santander to take a ferry to England for the start of Liverpool's pre-season training, avoiding a flight on medical advice after a recent lung operation. Political leaders as well as star players from Portugal and Liverpool joined family and friends at the funeral on Saturday in the Porto suburb of Gondomar. A site of remembrance has been set up at Liverpool's Anfield stadium where fans and former players have laid a sea of flowers, shirts, scarves and pictures. Following spells at Atletico Madrid, Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jota became a fan favourite at Liverpool after joining the Premier League giants in 2020. He netted 65 times for the Reds in five seasons, lifting the League Cup and FA Cup in 2021/22 and helping them win a record-equalling 20th English league title last season. The striker also earned 49 caps for Portugal and was part of the team that won this year's UEFA Nations League. Younger brother Andre played in midfield for FC Penafiel in Portugal's second tier. Liverpool returned to training on Tuesday for the first time since Jota's death, having postponed the start of their pre-season preparations last week. Ticket sales for a friendly against Preston North End have been suspended pending a final decision on whether the match will go ahead. Canada Canada Toronto Blue Jays Crime Sunshine Girls

The group has made headlines with their outspoken pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel stance. One of their members has been charged with a 'terror' offence for allegedly supporting Hezbollah. Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday said it was not 'appropriate' for the band to perform at Glastonbury, the country's biggest and most famous music festival. Acts due to perform from Friday include chart artists Charli XCX and Olivia Rodrigo as well as veteran stars Neil Young and Rod Stewart, who has said he will be joined by his former Faces band member Ronnie Wood. Other big names on the bill include Raye, The Prodigy, Alanis Morissette and Snow Patrol. Your noon-hour look at what's happening in Toronto and beyond. Tickets for this year's Glastonbury Festival at Worthy Farm in southwest England sold out within 35 minutes when they went on sale in November, with standard tickets priced at £373.50 ($471.50). The festival officially opens at 10:00 pm (2100 GMT) on Wednesday with a theatre and circus act followed by fireworks. But many ticket-holders, ladened with tents and backpacks, arrived hours earlier to claim the vast site's prime camping spots. Glastonbury attracted more than 210,000 fans in 2024, hosting 3,000 performances across some 80 stages. Many of the gigs were broadcast by the BBC, which has partnered with the festival since 1997. Since then, it has attracted cult status and big names, from David Bowie and Paul McCartney to Stormzy and Elton John, who played his final UK gig there in 2023. Premier League 'under strain' despite record £6.3 bn revenues

Fan protests over rising ticket prices have become commonplace in the Premier League (Oli SCARFF) The combined revenue of Premier League clubs rose to a record £6.3 billion ($8.5 billion, 7.5 billion euros) in the 2023/24 season, but fan unrest and worsening competitive balance are cause for concern, according to financial experts Deloitte. The rise in income for England's 20 top-flight clubs was fuelled by commercial income surpassing £2 billion for the first time and a rise in matchday revenue beyond £900 million. Advertisement English clubs continue to enjoy a huge financial advantage over their European rivals. Spain's La Liga, the second highest revenue-generating league, earned just over half that amount at 3.8 billion euros, almost 50 percent of which came from Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, fan protests have become a common sight at Premier League stadiums over rising ticket prices and the squeezing out of local supporters to make way for more tourists willing to spend more for a special matchday experience. "There can be no doubt that the system in English football is under strain," said Tim Bridge, the lead partner in the Deloitte Sports Business Group. Advertisement "Repeated reports of fan unrest at ticket price and accessibility demonstrate the challenge in the modern era of balancing commercial growth with the historic essence of a football club's role and position in society: as a community asset." There is also uncertainty over the implications of an incoming independent regulator for England's top five leagues. And for the past two seasons, all three promoted clubs from the Championship have been immediately relegated back to the second tier. "The financial implications of the 'yo-yo effect' on clubs, their spending, and overall competitiveness are major factors to address in order to continue attracting high levels of investment across the system," added Bridge in Deloitte's Annual Review of Football Finance. Advertisement Total revenue of European clubs rose by eight percent in the 2023/24 campaign to 38 billion euros, boosted by increased commercial revenue and stadium developments. The women's game also continues to grow commercially, particularly in England's Women's Super League (WSL). Collective revenues in the WSL rose 34 percent to £65 million in 2023/24 and are projected to reach £100 million in the upcoming season. kca/nf
