Spanish tourist hotspot ‘to ban 24-hour bars' as it brings in strict curfew
NO HOLS BARRED Spanish tourist hotspot 'to ban 24-hour bars' as it brings in strict curfew A POPULAR holiday hotspot in Spain will reportedly ban 24-hours bars as it introduces a strict curfew. Brits jetting to Alicante will be disappointed to learn that they have to end their nights out early. Advertisement 1 Alicante will reportedly introduce a new curfew forcing businesses to close early Credit: Alamy Holidaymakers flock to Spain for the hot weather, beautiful beaches and a fun night life. Although Spaniards are known for their late dinners and partying till the early morning hours, it might not be the case anymore. Alicante, a port city in Costa Blanca, is implementing a new curfew due to the noise complaints, according to the Olive Press. Businesses will now be forced to close at 12.30am on weekdays and 1am on weekends. Advertisement Nightclubs and other night entertainment venues will also shut their doors earlier than before. On weekdays, patrons will be asked to leave at 1am and on weekends parties will be cut short at 3am. The crackdown on noise will be most severe in Old Town and the city centre close to Calle Castaño, also known as Acoustically Saturated Zones (ZAS). Restaurants, bars, and nightclubs in these impacted areas will also be prohibited from obtaining new licenses or permits in addition to the revised schedule. Advertisement This also holds true for any other location where tourist traffic can become unmanageable, like cafés, food and drink stands, newspapers, event spaces, and karaoke bars. Even establishments that work around the clock will be forced to close their doors between 12.30am to 7am. 'Enough is enough!' chant raging anti-tourist protesters as thousands flood the streets in Canary Islands During these hours, local police is expected to patrol the streets to reinforce the curfew rules and check that restaurant terraces are neatly packed up. But the curfew will reportedly ease up around Christmas and New Year time with the exact hours yet to be confirmed by the local council. Advertisement The new restrictions come as 18million tourists passed through the Alicante-Elche airport last summer. A whopping 5million visitors picked Alicante as their vacation destination last year. Spain has introduced a number of strict rules across the country as it battles overcrowding while resorts are packed with tourists. Smoking is banned on a number of beaches in Barcelona and the Canary islands, with fines up to £1,700. Advertisement Some restaurants in Majorca ban any tourists who are wearing football shirts. And alcohol limits are in place on destinations such as Magaluf and Ibiza. Tourists at all-inclusive resorts will only be allowed to have three drinks in the day and three in the evening. Meanwhile, anti-tourist demonstrations have been sweeping holiday hotspots with the next protest set to happen tomorrow. Advertisement Hundreds take to the streets in high foot traffic areas, airports and major landmarks to demonstrate against overtourism, blaming holidaymakers for spiralling prices, housing shortages, overcrowded city centres and environmental issues.

Madeleine McCann detectives discovered two buried GUNS during search of Portuguese land last week - with the firearms now being analysed by forensic experts
Investigators looking for new clues relating to Madeleine McCann 's disappearance found two buried guns near the resort where she vanished from, it has been revealed. German authorities who flew to Portugal last week launched fresh searches through Atalaia - a stretch of scrubland littered with rubbish and graffiti-covered buildings linked by a network of dusty tracks known in Portuguese as the Fisherman's Trail. Connecting Praia da Luz with the nearby town of Lagos, the track is a popular hiking route for tourists, but for several days last week it was cordoned off for members of the BKA - Germany 's equivalent of the FBI - to conduct searches. Olive Press reported that the two firearms have now been sent back to Germany for analysis, along with bone fragments and 'bits of old adult clothing.' But not everyone is happy with how the operation, estimated to have cost £300,000, went. One officer told MailOnline: 'We always knew it was going to be a waste of time but we have to show cooperation. 'What did they expect to find after 18 years? We were happy to work with them but we knew it would be a waste of time.' But Portuguese media reported the search turned up enough material that investigators deemed worthy of further analysis at a laboratory. 'During the search, several items were seized that will be examined further by the German police,' reported CNN Portugal. The materials will now be carefully analyzed in the police laboratory 'to assess their potential relevance to the investigation', according the newspaper Correio da Manha. It comes as convicted rapist and paedophile Christian Brueckner - the man who German prosecutors believe was behind Madeleine's disappearance - draws closer to his release from prison. German police announced in 2020 that it had opened an investigation into Brueckner, 48, connecting him with Madeleine's abduction and murder. But he has not been charged – and the sands of time are running out. He has vehemently denied the allegations. Brueckner is serving a seven-year sentence for raping a 71-year-old woman, but is due for release in September and has already vowed to leave Germany. It means prosecutors will have trouble bringing him to court should they find enough evidence to charge him in connection with Madeleine's disappearance. His earliest possible release date is September 17 - though his lawyer said he would have to pay €1,500 (£1,300) in outstanding fines from a series of motor offences to leave then. Brueckner's lawyer Philipp Marquort told MailOnline: 'I haven't had a chance to speak with him yet about the searches and I am not going to comment on what has been happening in Portugal. 'What I will say is that I don't think he will be coming out in September as he doesn't have any money to pay the fines because it went on his legal fees, so I can't see him leaving prison until early next year. 'He will probably see the news on the TV in his cell and he will talk about it when he calls me next time but I still do think when he is freed he will leave Germany.' Meanwhile, German prosecutors have been accused by Portuguese media of failing to properly investigate a claim that Madeleine was run over by a drunk driver. Portuguese officers allegedly received a tip about a British man who was 'covering up a dark secret' about his German wife running over the young girl while drunk, then hiding the body. But German authorities rejected a Portuguese request to use an undercover police officer to try to befriend the wife and firm up their suspicions, Correio da Manha claimed. The report - which says a sister of the British husband made the tip-off to UK police in 2018 - said: 'German prosecutors were asked to authorise a covert police operation with someone posing as a friend of the woman's and trying to get her to confess, but the courts refused. 'It was decided to continue solely with the investigation into suspect Christian Brueckner, rejecting other possibilities.' Correio da Manha said the mystery couple were 'alcoholics' and the wife had been drinking near the Ocean Club on the night Madeleine went missing. It also claimed the couple's neighbour had told police she heard them having a row the day after the three-year-old disappeared. She said she heard the man repeatedly yelling 'Why did you bring her?' Portuguese police are said to have got the knock-back from the Germans after urging them to look more closely into the possibility the 'German wife' had driven home 'drunk' with Madeleine after running her over, then enlisting her husband's help in disposing the body at sea.

Brit dad found dead in Benidorm after 600ft fall 'was likely murdered', says cops
Nathan Osman was found dead at the bottom of cliff in Benidorm on a holiday with friends - and Spanish police now say he was 'likely' murdered. A British dad was found dead at the bottom of a cliff in Benidorm while on his first lads' holiday was "likely murdered", says police. While looking for his hotel, the day after arriving on the break with pals, Nathan Osman fell 600 feet down a cliff. Officers first assumed the 30-year-old suffered a terrible accident or had possibly even taken his own life. However, his loved-ones stressed that the dad-of-four rarely drank, never took drugs, and enjoyed life. Through their own detective work and compiling evidence pointing towards a potential murder, they have now managed to get the Spanish authorities to reconsider his death last September as foul play, reports the Mirror. The father of four, from Pontypridd, died in Benidorm on his first holiday abroad with friends on the morning of Saturday, September 28, 2024, leaving his family and friends heartbroken. Nathan had told his brother the night before heading to the Spanish resort that he was excited about his upcoming holiday. He also appeared composed in every piece of CCTV footage his family managed to gather of him. Nathan's body was discovered 50 minutes on foot from where he was last seen. According to his family, the sole route to the clifftop would have been near impossible to walk up in the dark, suggesting he was likely taken there. They also discovered an attempt to use his bank card just hours after his death at a shop a short drive away. When his body was found, all his valuables, apart from his damaged phone, were gone. After presenting their evidence to officers, Spanish authorities now share their view that Nathan was likely killed. The Olive Press reported: 'The judge and prosecutor agreed to reopen the case and to investigate Nathan's death as a potential homicide. With foul play being determined due to the factors raised.' Nathan left behind a daughter and three sons. An online fundraiser created in September to repatriate his body said they were 'heartbroken after hearing this tragic news'. The page said: ' Nathan was the smile that would light up the room, and to anyone that had the pleasure of meeting him, he would tell you that his four children were his whole world. A dedicated father who provided his children with the best life.' Last October, Mr Osman's family paid tribute to him. They said: "Nathan was the most loyal person, a faultless son, a caring brother, a fun loving uncle and a true friend to anyone that was lucky enough to know him. "His smile and his big brown eyes were infectious. He was the kindest of souls and his legacy will live on through his four beautiful children. Nathan enjoyed spending mornings at the beach with his children and partner. "They loved exploring, being outdoors and going for hikes, always having a great time and making beautiful memories. Nathan was totally devoted to his family, and as long as his family were happy, he was too." Benidorm Police have been approached for comment. The murder investigation continues. Ryanair flight makes emergency landing after woman gives birth on board
A Ryanair flight gained an unexpected extra passenger last Thursday after a woman gave birth on board. The flight from Brussels, Belgium, to Castellon, Spain, made a last minute diversion to Limoges, France, after she went into labour. A quick-thinking Belgium MP, Kathleen Depoorter, sprang into action to help the expectant mother. She said: 'I saw a woman come out of the bathroom and explain to the stewards that she was feeling unwell. 'When I heard her say that she has been pregnant for 37 weeks, all of my alarms started going off. 'I asked the pilot to make an emergency landing, and he complied. 'Everything went so fast that we had to construct a maternity ward in the back of the plane, and she gave birth there.' She told the Olive Press delivering the baby was a 'special feeling'. The lawmaker had studied Pharmacy at university and was travelling with her son Sebastiaan, who is a doctor. They were helped alongside other medical professionals on the flight to welcome the baby girl into the world. This included a midwife who managed the delivery of the placenta and a paediatrician who checked the baby's health. Both infant and mother are doing well and they are being treated in a French hospital. Ryanair has been contacted for further comment. While giving birth on a flight is rare, it is not unheard of. More Trending A woman who had no idea she was pregnant unexpectedly gave birth prematurely at 29 weeks in the middle of a flight from Utah to Hawaii. Last year, passengers on board a Wizz Air flight from Jordan to London disembarked the aircraft with a brand new traveller: a newborn baby. Two hours into the flight from Amman to Luton Airport, a woman went into labour, prompting junior doctor Hassan Khan to leap into action. With the help of Dr Khan and a passenger who spoke Arabic to translate for the unnamed woman, a healthy baby girl was delivered – with the only equipment used being towels.
