Thieves steal £150k worth of Pop Mart toys
Thieves have stolen £150,000 worth of Pop Mart toys. A shipment of the viral toy Hirono was intercepted by thieves in the early hours of April 8 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, just weeks before they were to be released to UK shops. The crime is the second in a month targeting expensive toys, after £20,000 worth of Jellycat stuffed animals were stolen from an independent store in Cheddar, Somerset, on March 30. Criminal groups are becoming increasingly aware of the collectable toy market, experts warn, because of the prices these figurines fetch online. Hirono, a small plastic figurine that resembles a small boy in a range of different costumes, was due to go on sale in May. Pop Mart also makes Labubu, figurines that resemble monsters, which are loved by celebrities, including former Love Islander Olivia Atwood, who posted a video unboxing one. Dua Lipa and Rihanna are also known to enjoy the toys, designed by Hong Kong-based artist Kasing Lung. The toys retail from £30 but have sold on eBay for as much as £1,000. The most valuable is the £164 Monsters Zimono I Found You doll, according to the Pop Mart website. A spokesman for Pop Mart said he was 'deeply saddened' by the 'recent rise in toy theft', adding that he was 'working diligently' to ensure it didn't impact the launch next month. A spokesman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: 'Police are investigating following a theft from a motor vehicle in Hemel Hempstead. 'Between 1.30am and 5.27am on Tuesday April 8, a trailer curtain was cut on a HGV parked on Eaton Road, causing extensive damage. A large number of items were reported stolen.' I tried Deliveroo's 'Dip and Dine' and it was the weirdest takeaway ever
Eating a takeaway in the bath is probably not something you've ever done in your life, but Deliveroo is trying to change people's minds. The online food delivery site has launched 'Dip & Dine' inflatables which allow people to enjoy pizza, curry, burgers and more in the tub. This has been inspired by the online trend of 'banquet bathing' which has picked up traction on TikTok and Instagram, and seen celebrities like Selena Gomez, Olivia Atwood and Greg James give it a try. Three different inflatables have been made in a circle, rectangle and pizza box to keep different types of takeaway buoyant in the bath. If you're like me the whole thing sounds utterly ridiculous, but I was genuinely quite curious to see if it would actually work in practice. I had two of the 'Dip and Dine' inflatables sent over in the circle and pizza box, which were fairly easy to blow up into shape. The instructions that came with the inflatables mentioned to avoid "sudden movements" and to not place anything too heavy on the items. I tried out two of the inflatables in the 'Dip & Dine' range (Image: Newsquest) Therefore, I thought it would be best to try out the pizza box inflatable to see if it held up to scrutiny, as it was the largest one. The only thing to do next was to order my food and run a bath. What the inflatables looked like (Image: Newsquest) I genuinely can't remember the last time I had a bath, with it probably stretching back many years - but then I imagine that's the case for many people who just use the shower. Once the bubbles had formed and the pizza and potato tots had arrived, I tested out the devices. I ended up using the circle inflatable for the potato tots, which managed to fit the box well enough. I used the smaller of the inflatables for the potato tots (Image: Newsquest) Thankfully, the pizza in its cardboard box wasn't too heavy for the other inflatable and rested gently on the surface. After that, I got in without disturbing the inflatables and settled down to eat. It did feel very strange at first tucking into a pizza while partially immersed in water. The pizza box inflatable managed to hold up the food (Image: Newsquest) The biggest issue people might face is getting their hands/arms soapy as they pick up the slices, but with a towel nearby it wasn't too much of a problem. There may be more practicality issues involved if you're using cutlery for a curry for example, but the hands-on approach for pizza suits it well. The main takeaway (pun unintended) is that the food stays within the items and you're unlikely to knock food into the water if you've inflated them properly. The overall experience was quite strange at first (Image: Newsquest) Overall, I'm hardly likely to do this again as if I ever get a takeaway I ideally want to be sat watching TV, but at the same time it wasn't quite as odd as I thought it might be in practice. If you want to try and get these 'Dip and Dine' inflatables you will have the opportunity between Thursday, March 6 and Saturday, March 8. Customers must make an order of over £15 and purchase a selected dish from the below-participating restaurants and locations to be in with the chance of receiving an inflatable: Double Pepperoni and Hot Honey Pizza from Pizza Pilgrims restaurants in London Chelsea, London Euston and Brighton Burger and Fries Combo from Byron restaurants in Liverpool, London Tottenham Court Road and Cambridge Chicken Katsu with Rice or a Sweet Chilli Chicken with Rice from Kokoro restaurants in Uxbridge, Bromley and Hounslow Veggie Curry with rice from Tamatanga restaurants in Leeds, Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham Recommended reading: I tried cheap and pricey chocolate digestives and a 77p one rivalled McVitie's I ordered a Too Good To Go Heinz parcel with popular cupboard items and saved £29 I went to Gordon Ramsay's restaurant and had a mind-blowing culinary education Not every qualifying order will receive an inflatable as they're allocated randomly to customers while stocks last. Arabella Jenkins at Deliveroo said: 'We love seeing weird and wonderful food trends pop up on social media, and, love it or hate it, bath banqueting is one that's made a splash! "So if eating a takeaway in the bath floats your boat like the quarter of Brits who admit 'it feels so wrong, it's right' or if you're still testing the waters - our Dip & Dine range is the perfect bathtime companion to make your relaxing night in even better.'
