Speaking to Cambridgeshire Live, she fumed: "It's not something a child should be thinking about. "He has been asking me questions. It has been psychologically distressing for him. "When I got him up on Thursday morning, he said 'Mummy, will there be knives at school today?'." Trumpington Meadow's headteacher, Ollie Monro, explained the school was working alongside police to help protect pupils. He said: "We can confirm that on Wednesday a small vegetable knife was discovered on school premises, in a young pupil's bag. "Whilst we are confident there was no negative intent, we understand this will cause concern. "The safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. "I would like to reassure you that this incident was dealt with swiftly and decisively, and in line with our safeguarding procedures. "The school leadership has been assisted in our response by the local authority and the police. "Following the incident, we have offered appropriate support to all involved and taken steps to further protect all our pupils." Cambridgeshire Police confirmed officers were due to speak to the child who brought the blade into school. A spokesperson for the force said: "We received a report on Wednesday (2 July) from a parent that a small kitchen knife had been found in a child's bag at Trumpington Meadows Primary School earlier in the day. "The school returned the knife to the child's parent, and contacted the local authority. "Officers are due to speak to the family of the child." More to follow...
