Nine arrests made in York City's match against Hartlepool United

NINE people have been arrested following the National League fixture between Hartlepool United and York City on Saturday, March 1. The previous visit to the Prestige Group Stadium in January 2024 saw four supporters arrested, and three charged, after York had lost the fixture 2-1. Ahead of City's next visit to Hartlepool this afternoon, both clubs shared joint statements pleading for supporters to 'represent their clubs in the right way'. Prior to the match a dispersal order was imposed at the Prestige Group Stadium. Officers were posted around the stadium, the town centre, Marina and at the train station. Police had warned that they could impose football banning order in response to antisocial behaviour. York supporters were escorted from Hartlepool train station to the stadium by a line of uniformed police officers. However, nine supporters, eight of which were York, and one was Hartlepool, have been arrested. Two of those arrest were on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. One arrest was on suspicion of possession of a pyro and/or flare. One arrest was on suspicion of attempting to enter the football stadium whilst being intoxicated. Another person was arrested was on suspicion of a verbal homophobic public order offence. Four other arrests took place at the train station. The British Transport Police have been contacted for further information. Police were also seen removing a group of supporters approximately 15 minutes into the match. The match ended in a 1-0 victory for York, with Ollie Pearce's 40th minute strike being the only difference on the afternoon. Both York City and Hartlepool United have been approached by the Press for comment.
