Training camp begins ahead of Nuclear Science Olympiad
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education has launched a central training camp for the national team preparing to participate in the International Nuclear Science Olympiad, to be held in Bangi, Malaysia, from July 31 to August 5.
Now in its second edition, the camp is being held under the supervision of the Department of Innovation and Science Olympiad; and includes four top-performing students from the governorates of Muscat, Al Sharqiyah North, Al Dakhiliyah and Al Batinah South.
The programme includes intensive theoretical and practical training in nuclear science, such as solving Olympiad-style problems, conducting experiments in nuclear physics, tackling complex multi-step questions and strengthening critical thinking and analytical skills. The training is designed to simulate the actual Olympiad environment, preparing students to compete at an international level with confidence and scientific rigour.
The International Nuclear Science Olympiad, organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), aims to enhance global awareness about the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. It also encourages secondary school students to develop innovative and independent problem-solving approaches, while fostering greater understanding of nuclear applications in medicine, energy, agriculture and industry.
The initiative also seeks to inspire the next generation of scientists by strengthening scientific culture and expanding opportunities for gifted youth across Oman. — ONA
