U.S. men's swimming rankings going into 2025 Toyota National Championships

The new Olympic quad could usher in a new era for U.S. men's swimming. Bobby Finke is the lone individual Olympic men's gold medalist entered so far in next week's Toyota U.S. Championships, the meet that determines the team for the World Championships in July and August in Singapore. Advertisement Three other Olympic champions — Caeleb Dressel, Chase Kalisz and Ryan Murphy — were not on the initial entry list. Dressel has raced in one meet since Paris and Kalisz strictly in November 2024 trials, according to USA Swimming's database. Murphy said he is taking a break from competition in 2025 with an eye on coming back later in the quad for a 2028 Olympic bid. At nationals, the top two finishers per event — plus up to the top six in the 100m and 200m freestyles for relay purposes — make the team for worlds, should they meet a minimum qualifying time and the total roster not exceed 26 swimmers per gender. Shaine Casas, who placed ninth in the 200m individual medley in his Olympic debut in Paris, goes into nationals with the country's best time in 2025 in the 50m and 100m backstroke and 50m and 100m butterfly, plus the 200m IM. USA Swimming National Championships 2025 Toyota U.S. Swimming Championships TV, live stream schedule Advertisement The U.S. Championships determine the team for this summer's World Championships in Singapore. The last time somebody won five events at one spring or summer nationals was at the 2008 Olympic Trials (Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff). Granted, the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly, two events that debut at the Olympics in 2028, haven't always been held at national meets. Carson Foster, the Olympic 400m IM bronze medalist, has the top U.S. time in 2025 in the 400m IM, plus in the 200m and 400m freestyles. Then there's Finke, a three-time Olympic gold medalist in the distance freestyles who again tops the seeds in the 800m and 1500m. 2025 U.S. Men's Swimming Rankings Times taken from USA Swimming's database. Rebecca Adlington says public called her ‘too fat' and ‘ugly' while competing in Olympics aged 19

Former Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington has opened up about dealing with hurtful comments about her weight and appearance while competing for Team GB, aged 19. The four-time Olympic gold medalist and BBC pundit, who made her debut at the 2008 Beijing Games and won the 400 and 800 metres freestyle, has said in a new interview that she 'blocked everyone out' while dealing with public criticism of her body. 'I had won an Olympic medal – but the media was saying I was too fat. That I wasn't in shape. I kept thinking: What am I too fat for? Yes, I've got big shoulders, but they're my power,' she told the i. She added: 'I was 19 and people were openly saying how ugly I was. I was still a baby. It was incredibly difficult to navigate because I knew I wasn't attractive. I've never considered myself one of the pretty girls. But I didn't realise you had to be stunning to be an Olympic athlete. 'For me, it was very normal to have a tall body frame and big shoulders. Swimming is a very exposing sport; you are in a swimsuit. But people in swimming clubs do not look at one another as fat or thin. I look at people and think they're in shape.' Adlington said that she felt the 'most sorry' for her parents, because they would see the hateful messages 'about their little girl'. To cope, the athlete kept a tight-knit circle around her and 'blocked everyone else out'. 'I don't know how I got through it. I don't think I handled it the best way,' she said. Adlington, from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, retired from competitive swimming aged 23, and now works as a well-known face in BBC Olympic commentary and runs Swim!, a school that teaches children to swim. She shares a son, Albie, with her husband Andy Parsons. She also has a daughter, Summer, from her first marriage to swimmer and personal trainer Harry Needs. Adlington has recently been using her platform to raise awareness of coeliac disease, which she was diagnosed with after experiencing recurring miscarriages. Coeliac disease is a condition where the immune system attacks a person's tissues when they consume gluten, a protein naturally found in grains such as wheat, barley and rye, which can damage the small intestine. 'Looking back, I've had symptoms for a couple of years, but I was not aware that the disease was linked to fertility and miscarriage,' Adlington said in the same interview. She said that doctors initially thought she had gastroenteritis – an inflammation of the stomach and intestines – but doctors tested her for coeliac disease after he recurring miscarriages. 'I think my symptoms worsened with my second pregnancy with my son Albie,' she said, adding: 'I put the fatigue down to my hormones changing so much with getting pregnant. I would have a painful stomach and bloating.' In March, Adlington partnered with the charity Coeliac UK and handed a petition to the UK government to highlight the importance of protecting access to gluten-free prescriptions for people with the disease.

Abandoned iconic UK stadium left to rot with track ripped up 110 years after hosting FA Cup final

AN ICONIC athletics stadium that formerly hosted the FA Cup final is being given a new lease of life. Crystal Palace National Sports Centre fell into disrepair after closing almost four years ago. 7 7 7 7 7 The South London complex was shut in November 2022 following unexpected safety concerns. Concrete pillars holding up the floodlights were discovered to have been unsafe. Prior to 2012, the 19,000-capacity ground hosted the London Grand Prix before the event was switched to the nearby London Stadium. The FA Cup final was also held on the same site between 1895 and 1914, with the current stadium opened at the same address in 1964. Following its surprise closure, the site quickly grew into a state of disrepair. The running track was partially ripped up, with the scoreboard and stands littered with fox and rat poo. An Olympic-sized swimming and diving pool on the site has also been closed. The move has frustrated local coaches, who maintain the facilities must reopen to help train new talent. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK John Powell, chair of Crystal Palace Sports Partnership, told the Guardian: "At the moment you've got an indoor track with rats on it and pigeon excrement all over the place. "There are trees growing out of the West Stand and then there was the floodlight farce, which meant no one can train there after dark now. Former top flight stadium left abandoned and overgrown just two years after club last played a game there "London is the only capital city in Europe that doesn't have a dedicated athletics centre. "Crystal Palace is the most accessible athletics stadium in the country so it's a total joke what has been allowed to happen." Extra funding has now been provided to restore Crystal Palace to its former glory. 7 7 The track has now been relayed, while the reopening of the 50m and diving pools remains the key priority for the project. London Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, Thomas Turrell, said: "The phased target openings for facilities across the estate remain for 2027 and 2028. "The project is currently at the mid-point of the contractor procurement process, aiming to have a contractor on board by Spring 2025. "A planning submission will follow later in the year with works programmed to start on site in 2026. 'I am pleased to this project developing. While there is still a lot to do, and I know local people are keen to see the pool in particular opened as soon as possible, it is good to see progress finally being made. "The Centre has been forgotten for too long and I am really excited by this plan.
