OSSA organises 4th School Beach Games tourney

SALALAH: The fourth edition of the School Beach Games Championship, organised by the Oman School Sports Association (OSSA) in cooperation with sports committees from the educational directorates will kick off on Sunday. The event will take place on the sand courts of the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, from Sunday and will run until Thursday with the participation of 93 students representing various educational directorates. The championship will feature two competitions in the boys' category including: beach handball and beach volleyball events. In beach handball event, as many as eight teams have been drawn into two groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. In beach volleyball event, nine teams will compete in two groups, with the first group consisting of five teams and the second of four teams, also with the top two from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. Matches will be played in a single round robin format. The opening day will see 12 matches — six in beach handball and six in beach volleyball. Group stage matches will continue on Monday in both morning and evening sessions. The semifinal matches are scheduled for Wednesday, with the finals to be played on Thursday morning, marking the conclusion of the tournament. The championship is held under the strategic sponsorship of OQ Group The championship is held under the strategic sponsorship of OQ Group, with executive partnership from the General Directorate of Education in Dhofar Governorate and the General Directorate of Culture, Sports and Youth in Dhofar Governorate represented by the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment alongside the School Sports Committees in the educational directorates, the Oman Volleyball Association, and the Oman Handball Association (OHA). More than 50 supervisors and coaches are involved in organising the championship, in addition to members of the organizing, media, and technical committees, referees, and administrators. The organising committee has finalised its preparations for the event, forming the necessary technical, media, and logistical committees to ensure smooth operations. All participants will enjoy a rest day on Tuesday featuring a tourism and leisure program, including visits to Mughsail Beach, Ayn Jarziz, and Haffa Souq, with the final day offering an excursion to Atin Square and Ayn Razat. Muscat Educational Directorate is the defending champion in beach handball, while the Al Sharqiyah South Educational Directorate holds the title in beach volleyball from the previous edition.

Al Dakhiliyah girls top overall ranking of School Sports Days

MUSCAT: The Oman School Sports Association (OSSA) concluded the first part of the School Sports Days which was dedicated to girls as Al Dakhiliyah Directorate-General of Education claimed first place in the overall ranking while Muscat's education directorate girls secured top honours in the bowling competition and also led the table tennis event. As many as 250 female students took part in the School Sports Days and vied for several medals in four sporting disciplines including athletics, badminton, table tennis and bowling. The competitions featured tough and exciting performances. On the other hand, the School Sports Days for boys will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday as 161 students under the supervision of 76 coaches and supervisors will vie in different events. The boys will compete in athletics (87 participants), badminton (22), table tennis (33), bowling (24), cross-country (43) and chess (44). 250 female students took part in the School Sports Days. The purpose of the School Sports Days is that OSSA will work closely with the national associations to provide the top athletes and players in different sporting disciplines. The talented and most potential players will receive the right environment from associations for further development programme and to represent the national teams in different domestic and international events in the coming future. In the girl's competitions, Al Dakhiliyah emerged as the overall champions with 61 points in athletics while Al Batinah North came second with 51 points, while Muscat secured third place with 48 points. In table tennis, Al Dhahirah won first place while Al Batinah North ended as runners-up while Al Dakhiliyah finished third. In badminton, Jawaher al Shaibi from Muscat took first place, followed by Rawaa al Qassabi from Al Dakhiliyah and Muzn al Amri, also from the same governorate, in third. In bowling, Muscat claimed the top position, followed by Al Dakhiliyah in second and Dhofar in third. Competitions were held in athletics, badminton, table tennis and bowling. At the end of the competitions, the closing ceremony was held as Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education and Chairman of the Oman School Sports Association, was the chief guest and delivered the medals to the top winners in each sporting category. The finals were also attended by Maryam bint Mohammed al Riyamiyah, Adviser to the Minister of Education for Educational Relations and International Cooperation, along with officials and invitees. The closing ceremony featured the final of table tennis, followed by a student performance by Al Ula Basic Education School and a visual presentation highlighting the competition highlights. Later, the award ceremony took place as the top three winners were honoured in each event with gold, silver and bronze medals. Trophies were also presented to the top-performing directorates in the overall standings.

'School Sports Days' launched in Muscat

MUSCAT: MUSCAT: The Oman School Sports Association (OSSA) launched the School Sports Days on Sunday and will run until Wednesday at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher and the Bowling Hall in Seeb. The event will target students born in 2008 and later, in accordance with the age-specific criteria set by the organising committee for each sport. Also, the event has attracted a large turnout, with 414 students advancing to the finals. Each of the governorates of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah and Dhofar is represented by 42 participants. Al Batinah North Governorate is represented by 38, while Al Sharqiyah North and Musandam governorates each have 34 participants. Al Batinah South and Al Sharqiyah South governorates are represented by 33 each, and Al Wusta Governorate by 32 participants. This nationwide initiative brings together over 400 male and female students, accompanied by 22 supervisors, under the technical direction of 109 coaches representing 11 educational directorates. Participants will compete in six sports disciplines: chess, athletics, badminton, bowling, cross-country, and table tennis. The School Sports Days event aims to promote sports participation within the educational system and utilise sports as an effective tool to support educational goals. The event also serves to instil ethical values, spread Olympic sports culture among students, and raise awareness about the importance of physical activity. Moreover, it acts as a platform to discover and nurture emerging student talent, guiding outstanding athletes toward national sports federations and future national team representation. The female competitions will take place on Sunday and Monday, featuring 253 students under the supervision of 55 coaches and supervisors. Female students will compete in athletics 86 participants, badminton 22 participants, table tennis 33 participants and bowling 20 participants.
