Connected Vehicles Are Leaping Into The Driver's Lane, And Iteris' Software And Hardware Stack Is Playing A Role

By Meg Flippin Benzinga DETROIT, MICHIGAN - May 28, 2025 ( NEWMEDIAWIRE ) - The idea of vehicles communicating with each other and with roadside infrastructure is no longer in the conceptual stage. It's beginning to be deployed on the ground as cities, municipalities and government agencies around the world look for ways to enhance safety and reduce traffic congestion. After all, connected vehicle (CV) technology enables vehicles to share information about driving conditions, traffic and accidents in real-time. That data can be vital to agencies in charge of the world's roadways. As a result, the market is predicted to reach $446.6 billion by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 19.5% over ten years. In 2023, the market was only valued at $75.2 billion, underscoring the growing demand for CV technology. Iteris Is At The Forefront Of The CV World Iteris Inc., a global player in connected vehicle (CV) and connected vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology is helping shape this movement, churning out AI-powered sensors, cameras and software designed to improve intersections and roadways around the world. Take Iteris' V2X Connect software application as one example. V2X Connect, which tests and verifies that connected vehicle devices are transmitting and receiving secure and reliable messages in the field, was recently certified by OmniAir Consortium, the leading industry association promoting interoperability for Intelligent Transportation Systems, tolling and connected vehicles. Iteris said that it was certified by OmniAir Consortium because V2X Connect can effectively capture and analyze over-the-air (OTA) network traffic, offering real-time and offline analysis via its mobile application. This helps traffic management agencies and systems integrators efficiently deploy connected vehicle applications. The company's advanced diagnostic tool is used by transportation personnel, system integrators, Iteris distributors and general contractors. The Florida Department of Transportation Traffic Engineering Research Laboratory and USDOT Federal Highway Administration are among the customers using V2X Connect in their connected vehicle initiatives. 'Iteris' work on the V2X Connect test system sets a new benchmark in the industry,' says Jason Conley, executive director of OmniAir. 'This test system can benefit test laboratories, infrastructure owners/operators, and the wider industry.' A Hardware Agnostic, Interoperable Approach Then there is Iteris' VantageARGUS CV - previously known as BlueARGUS - a suite of software designed for transportation professionals who want to harness the full potential of connected vehicle applications and travel-time data. The SaaS offering, which is hardware agnostic and interoperable, can enable a variety of connected vehicle applications, including travel time and speed data collection, management and performance measure analytics. While VantageARGUS CV serves as a congestion management solution, its capabilities stretch far beyond that to empower agencies to implement CV applications. The software's Origin-Destination (O-D) feature provides agencies with in-depth traffic flow and driver behavior data, detailing entire trip sequences and events to enhance traffic control, optimize signals and improve congestion management across designated zones. With VantageARGUS CV's interactive dashboard, the company says users can analyze metrics, monitor connected device uptime status, check travel time routes and speed patterns to optimize traffic flow and integrate statewide and city data - creating a holistic traffic management solution with all the necessary traffic data at agencies' fingertips. 'As roads become busier, the quest for smoother traffic flows and enhanced safety intensifies,' says Iteris. 'VantageARGUS CV, previously known as BlueARGUS, not only answers this call but paves the way for the future of traffic management.' Hardware Completes The Package Hand-in-hand with VantageARGUS CV is Iteris' BlueTOAD Spectra CV, which is a roadside unit that combines wireless technologies – Bluetooth(R) (2.4 GHz), Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) and Cellular Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) (5.9 GHz) – into a singular, roadside unit. The BlueTOAD Spectra CV RSU combines DSRC/C-V2X with real-time and historical Bluetooth detection, providing V2X interconnectivity for safety and mobility applications in connected vehicle initiatives and providing synchronization with transportation agency travel-time and performance measures-based systems, reports Iteris. Connected vehicles are in the driver's seat, moving from the research stage to the deployment stage. Iteris says it is putting itself in pole position to be among the leaders with its full stack of hardware and software that can work together or on their own. U.S. government made New England Patriots team plane fly to Guantánamo Bay

The New England Patriots team planes are used for a whole lot more than just moving players around – often in praise-worthy moves. They've helped other teams travel to championship games and delivered over 1 million face masks as part of early COVID-19 response. But this week, flight records showed that one of the planes made a trip to one of the most controversial destinations possible: the U.S. naval base at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba. According to public flight records, the Patriots team plane registered N36NE traveled from Fort Worth, Texas to Guantánamo Bay and left a few hours later. The Patriots team planes are operated by a charter company called Omni Air and are often chartered for other uses. When asked about the flights to Guantánamo, a Kraft Sports + Entertainment spokesperson told WBUR that Omni Air 'uses the Patriots planes as part of their inventory when chartering to the Department of Defense to move military personnel.' 'The New England Patriots organization is not involved in, nor does it approve, sanction, or coordinate the uses of the aircrafts when they are chartered for non-team purposes,' the spokesperson added. The base at Guantánamo Bay is one of the most infamous military facilities operated by the United States government. It is best known as the site where the U.S. government held suspected terrorists. Guantánamo Bay has become a hot-button topic once again as a detention facility to hold deportees removed from the country under sweeping immigration arrests under the direction of President Donald Trump. A Patriots spokesperson told HuffPost in an email that the team plane was not used to aid in deportation efforts. 'The New England Patriots plane was not used for any kind of deportation flight and there were no detainees on the plane,' the spokesperson said to HuffPost. 'Under our current charter manager, neither of the Patriots planes have ever been used for that purpose.' The White House backed up that statement. Deputy press secretary Anna Kelly told Vanity Fair that there is no link between the Patriots and deportation efforts. 'While those assisting with President Trump's mass deportation of migrant criminals are great patriots, there is no contract with the New England Patriots to facilitate deportations,' she said to Vanity Fair. The Patriots team plane recently came under criticism from the franchise's own players. In the 2025 NFLPA report card, players complained that the plane is too small and had ashtrays in the armrests." The Patriots plane was spotted near Guantanamo Bay. Here's what we know

Flight trackers spotted a New England Patriots plane traveling near Guantanamo Bay on Monday, sparking online speculation about the purpose of its offseason flight to the controversial facility. State of play: The plane, operated by Omni Air International under a partnership with the team, flew from Fort Worth, Texas, to off the coast of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before heading to Fort Bliss, Texas, per the flight tracking website ADS-B Exchange. A since-deleted post on Reddit's Patriots forum reporting the flight drew dozens of comments, with fans debating the purpose of the flight. A post on the Boston forum has drawn hundreds of responses. Reality check: It's unclear why the plane flew there, but Omni Air has flown U.S. troops internationally on Patriots planes in the past as part of a multi-million-dollar military contract. The Patriots said in a statement to Axios that the organization "is not involved in, nor does it approve, sanction, or coordinate the uses of the aircraft when they are chartered for non-team purposes." Although a team plane has reportedly been used to transport migrants in the past, the Patriots said no deportation flights have happened under the current charter manager and that Monday's flight did not have migrants on board. Between the lines: Omni Air, an Oklahoma-based company, has been operating the Patriots' two Boeing planes for team travel and other chartered flights since 2024, per an announcement. The partnership allows chartered flights for "humanitarian and goodwill flights on behalf of the Kraft family, and as available for Omni's other charter customers." Omni Air has a $6.3-million contract with the Department of Defense through September 2026, per federal records. The contract involves both short- and long-range chartered flights worldwide. Omni Air did not respond to inquiries about the flight. The Patriots said the company's work for the military results in no financial gain to the Patriots organization. Flashback: It's not the first time the Patriots' flights have come under scrutiny.
