Kuskop develops 'Ikan Liking' as Kota Belud's SDSI product
Published on: Saturday, May 17, 2025 Published on: Sat, May 17, 2025 Text Size: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Kuskop) has developed Ikan Liking as a product under the One District One Industry (SDSI) program for Kota Belud, allocating RM55,000 to support 16 local entrepreneurs. Kuskop Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the funding covers basic training, guidance courses, and ongoing monitoring to ensure the success of the initiative, aimed at empowering rural entrepreneurs and reducing poverty through entrepreneurship. Advertisement Besides Ikan Liking, KUSKOP is also supporting swiftlet nest production by Koperasi Kumpulan Walit Kanibongan Berhad (Kokuwa) with RM192,000, and is considering Ranau Coffee as a new SDSI product for Ranau district this year. Ewon added that SDSI implementation has been enhanced with the launch of SDSI 2.0 Guidelines to help entrepreneurs become more competitive. As of 2024, there are 138 active SDSI entrepreneurs registered in Sabah. During the Kota Belud District Kaamatan Festival celebration, Ewon highlighted the importance of unity, mutual respect, and cooperation in nation-building. He also introduced the Eastern Malaysia Focus Policy to address the unique needs of entrepreneurs in Sabah and Sarawak. Local entrepreneurs thrive under SDSI programme, sales jump by over 20pc, says Ewon
TAWAU: A total of 90 per cent of local entrepreneurs who participated in the government's long-running One District One Industry (SDSI) Programme under the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry nationwide have managed to increase the sales value of their products by at least 20 per cent. Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said that at the heart of this success were inspiring stories like Koperasi Desa Gedok Gemenceh, a rendang maman producer from Negri Sembilan, which recorded a staggering 77 per cent rise in sales and income. Over in Sabah, he said Koperasi Kumpulan Walit Kanibongan Berhad (Kokuwa), a bird's nest enterprise, saw its annual sales grow by 33.4 per cent in 2023 alone. "These are achievements we are truly proud of. We at the ministry really want to see more local entrepreneurs replicate this kind of success. "As such, we will continue to support the implementation of the SDSI Programme and has already submitted a funding proposal under the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026-2030) to ensure SDSI continues to expand and empower rural businesses,' he told reporters after officiating the SDSI 2.0 Showcase for Borneo Region at the 2025 Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) Sabah venue here on Saturday (May 10). Also present were Sabah Assistant Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy, and Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development secretary-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud. The SDSI programme, originally launched in 1992 as the One Village One Product initiative, focuses on developing community-based economies by promoting distinctive regional industries and products. Meanwhile, expectations are high at PMR 2025 Sabah, a three-day event aimed at showcasing local products. Nevertheless, Ewon said the ministry was optimistic about meeting its sales target of RM1.5mil, bolstered by an impressive 26,320 visitors on the first day alone. "With such an enthusiastic turnout, we are hopeful we will reach our overall sales target, which includes direct sales, business matching, and sales from entrepreneurs and cooperatives,' he said. To further support local businesses, Ewon announced that his minstry had disbursed RM1.5mil to the Sabah Department of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship to strengthen entrepreneurial initiatives in the state.- Bernama

Over 100,000 expected to attend PMR Sabah

TAWAU: Over 100,000 people are expected to flock to the 2025 Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) Sabah, a three-day government outreach event set to take place at the Tawau Municipal Council Square (MPT) here from today (Friday) to Sunday. According to the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Kuskop) Cooperative, Hawkers and Small Traders Development Division Secretary, Azizul Alias, the turnout is expected to match or exceed the overwhelming response recorded at the 2024 PMR 'Sayangi Sabah' edition held in Kota Kinabalu last October. 'With a wide variety of engaging and beneficial activities planned, we're confident residents of Tawau and surrounding areas will show up in force for this edition of PMR,' he said. Among the programme's highlights are on-site government services, interactive sessions and business showcases, including the popular Jualan Madani initiative, which offers essential goods at discounted prices. A total of 36 booths from federal and state ministries and agencies will be present, alongside 204 public service touchpoints. Azizul added that the 2025 PMR Sabah will also feature local TikTok Shop entrepreneurs, particularly those operating from Tawau and nearby districts, through the special 'Yellow Bag' sales initiative. 'The event will also feature appearances by influencers and Sabah-born singer Bella Astillah, as well as the Tawau Mega Concert on Saturday night, involving top Malaysian artists, including Datuk Awie, Stacy, Akim, and Felix Agus,' he said. The programme will also showcase the products by local entrepreneurs under the One District One Industry (SDSI) Borneo Region segment, featuring 178 Sabah-based businesses across various sectors. 'These include food and beverages, handicrafts, homestay services, and health products,' Azizul said.
