New York Jets dig into their past, sign 40-year-old to help solve kicking woes

The last time the New York Jets reached the NFL playoffs was back in 2010. Their kicker that season was Nick Folk, who drilled a last-second field goal against the Indianapolis Colts to propel the Jets into the AFC Championship Game. A lot of bad things happened to the Jets and their kicking game since. So, perhaps a reunion with the 40-year-old will bring some good karma back to One Jets Drive. Or more likely, the Jets were desperate to find a dependable kicker after the underwhelming duo of Cade Davis and Harrison Mevis failed to impress so far in training camp. No matter the underlying reason, Folk signed a one-year contract with the Jets on Tuesday after a successful tryout. Davis was released. Mevis remains on the roster, likely as insurance should Folk get hurt. 'Listen, he's a very established kicker in this league,' Jets coach Aaron Glenn said after practice. 'You go back and look at his stats from the past couple of years, they've been above board. 'I've said this from the beginning: anyone that can help us win games, man, we're going to take a look at that. He was available … and I'm happy he chose us.' Glenn's not kidding about Folk's numbers being 'above board' recently. Despite his advanced age, Folk led the NFL in field goal percentage each of the past two seasons when he was with the Tennessee Titans. He converted 21 of 22 field goals last season (95.5 percent) and 29 of 30 (96.7 percent) in 2023. There's still quite a bit of boom in Folk's right leg, too. He made 11 of 12 kicks from 50+ yards the past two years, including a 56-yarder last season that matched the longest of his career. Folk did sustain an abdominal injury in 2024 and missed the final three games of the Titans season, though he's completely recovered by this point. Related: Nick Folk signs up for reunion with Jets After beginning his NFL career with three seasons as the Dallas Cowboys kicker, Folk played seven seasons for the Jets from 2010-16. His 729 points are second on the Jets' all-time list, trailing only Pat Leahy, who had 1,470 over 18 seasons in the Green and White. His 56-yard field goal in 2010 was longest in Jets history until surpassed by Chandler Catanzaro's 57-yarder in 2017 and then Greg Zuerlein's 60-yard field goal in 2022. Related: It's Zuerlein's recent demise which led to Folk's eventual reunion with the Jets. After two outstanding seasons in 2022 and 2023, the 37-year-old was injured and ineffective last season. Zuerlein appeared in only eight games. That led to a revolving door of five different kickers used by the Jets in 2024, eerily reminiscent of their woes at the position from 2017-21 — after Folk departed and before Zuerlein arrived. Folk, who also kicked for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, has 242 games of NFL experience. The Jets hope at least another full season of consistency remains in his powerful right leg. Jets Poised For Fresh 'Restart' Under New Regime

Jets Poised For Fresh 'Restart' Under New Regime originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The winds of change have swept through One Jets Drive, with head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey spearheading a new regime for the New York Jets. Advertisement Part of that was cleaning out the deadwood with Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, along with others, and bringing in Justin Fields and shrewd free agent signings, Andre Cisco, and Brandon Stephens. Things have been moving well for the Jets. Granted, we are only partway through the offseason, and we have yet to see how the Jets will handle the adversity that will come their way in 2025, but this new regime has laid the foundation for what they hope will be a springboard toward a better future. And for Fox Sports' Ben Arthur, when using one word to describe New York's offseason, he lands with "restart." "New coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey head the post-Aaron Rodgers Jets, looking to set the tone for a new culture," Arthur writes. "Former first-round pick Justin Fields is looking to prove that he can be a long-term starting quarterback after stints with the Bears and Steelers." New York Jets head coach Aaron R. / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Fields is the central figure in Glenn's rebuild, and while he has a two-year contract, the Jets have escapability after the 2025 season if things don't work out. Advertisement Ideally, they will, and Jets fans hope that Fields can be their guy for the foreseeable future. Granted, Justin hasn't shown at any of his previous spots that he can be "that" guy for the organization he's played with, but maybe New York is where he can have his "Baker Mayfield-like" resurgence. Yes, that might be a high bar, but Fields does have some weapons around him with Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, along with a stout offensive line. Is that enough to make this "restart" work in the Big Apple? Time will tell. Jets stars and WAGs' ‘emotional' journeys focus of new Amazon Prime Video docuseries

The Jets will be the stars of a new Prime Video docuseries that was announced Monday ahead of Amazon's upfront presentation to advertisers. The six-part docuseries entitled 'The Home Team: NY Jets' follows six players and their partners during the 2024-25 NFL season. Among the players to be featured will be Quinnen and Maranda Williams and Alijah and Jessie Vera-Tucker and provides 'an authentic peek into the emotional journey these players and their families go on over the course of a 17-week NFL season,' according to Amazon. 'From business endeavors to baby showers to family reunions, The Home Team: NY Jets will take viewers inside the professional and personal lives of these diverse, lovable couples, in order to show how family makes football possible,' the video streamer said in a press release. Prime Video is partnering with Skydance and NFL Films, along with VaynerWATT, to present the docuseries. The behind-the-scenes look could provide Jets fans with a unique look back at what had been a wild season for Gang Green, amid a coaching change, the ongoing drama with then-quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a season that went very differently than expected. The Jets went 5-12 and led to a complete organizational overhaul at the end of the year. Alijah and Jessie Vera-Tucker. @jessieveratucker/Instagram The Jets had previously been featured on HBO's 'Hard Knocks' prior to the 2023 season and the organization has produced its own in-house docuseries, 'One Jets Drive.' Along with the Jets series, Amazon also announced an untitled documentary focused on ex-wide receiver Terrell Owens. That project will focus on Owens' rise as 'one of the most talented, accomplished, and polarizing athletes of America's most popular sport' while looking into 'his role as the preeminent 'prima donna' wide receiver of his era.' Prime Video has had an increasing footprint with sports programming, which has included broadcasting 'Thursday Night Football' and, starting next season, covering the NBA.
