MVCC chosen for Governor's 'ON-RAMP' Program

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Thursday that Mohawk Valley Community College — along with two others — will become part of a program to bolster manufacturing in New York State. The governor announced on Thursday that three places were selected for the ON-RAMP (One Network for Regional Advanced Manufacturing Partnerships), which included the redevelopment of MVCC's soon-to-be vacant Science and Technology Center. The $200 million program was proposed in Governor Hochul's State of the State Address last year. Each program — one at the former College of Saint Rose, one at Monroe Community College near Rochester, and MVCC — will receive up to $300,000 in planning grants to help establish the centers. 'Too many communities in Upstate New York have been left out and left behind for generations – and I'm fighting to bring them back,' Governor Hochul said in a statement. 'These new ON-RAMP centers will be critical parts of the new I-90 advanced manufacturing corridor, giving New Yorkers the skills and training necessary for a good-paying job. New Yorkers are already seeing the benefits of our economic development strategy: good-paying jobs, revitalized communities and more money in their pockets.' MVCC's center is anticipated to offer training for in-demand skills on low-cost, no-cost and work-and-learn models. The center is also scheduled to house MVCC's Fast-Track Program, as well as the Manufacturer's Association of Central New York's (MACNY) 'Real-Life Rosies' program. With the move to the center, both programs can now recruit additional candidates to their program. 'We are so grateful to the Governor and her staff for this incredible opportunity to work even more closely with our workforce partners in the region to significantly scale opportunities that connect people to quality jobs and enhance the overall vibrancy of the communities we serve,' MVCC President Dr. Randall Van Wagoner said in a statement.
