While certain aspects, such as charging speeds and chip performance, remain consistent with its predecessor, this smartwatch introduces a range of improvements that cater to both fitness enthusiasts and casual users. From advanced health tracking to refined software, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic offers a well-rounded experience that balances functionality and style. The video below from TechTalkTV gives us more details about the upcoming smartwatch. Watch this video on YouTube. Design Updates: A Modern Take on Classic Elegance The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic reintroduces Samsung's iconic rotating bezel, now enhanced with deeper anti-slip ridges for improved grip and usability. This feature not only adds a tactile element but also reinforces the watch's reputation for intuitive navigation. The design leans into a more circular aesthetic, reminiscent of the Gear Sport, delivering a sleeker and more polished appearance. The watch is slightly thicker by 2 to 3 millimeters, compared to its predecessor, a subtle change that may contribute to improved battery capacity. Samsung has also simplified the lineup by offering a single size option, emphasizing practicality and ease of choice. This combination of thoughtful design and functional enhancements ensures the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic remains a stylish yet durable accessory for everyday wear. Health Features: Smarter Tools for Wellness Samsung has expanded its health-tracking capabilities with the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, introducing new tools designed to provide deeper insights into your well-being. These features aim to empower users with actionable data for better health management. Gemini Voice Assistant: An upgraded voice assistant that delivers faster and more seamless interactions, enhancing the overall user experience. Although the watch retains the same chip as the previous Watch Ultra, these software optimizations ensure better responsiveness and efficiency. The result is a smartwatch that feels modern and capable, offering a seamless experience for everyday use. Battery and Charging: Small but Notable Changes The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic features incremental improvements in battery life, likely due to its slightly thicker design, which may accommodate a larger battery. This enhancement allows for extended usage, making it more reliable for daily wear. However, the watch retains the 10W charging speed of its predecessor, with no significant advancements in charging technology. While these updates may not represent a major leap forward, they reflect Samsung's commitment to balancing practicality with performance. The improved battery life ensures the watch can keep up with your busy schedule, while the consistent charging speed maintains familiarity for existing users. A Balance of Tradition and Innovation The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic successfully bridges the gap between tradition and modernity. Its iconic rotating bezel, advanced health-tracking features, and refined OneUI 8 Watch software create a versatile smartwatch that appeals to a wide range of users. Wear OS 6 should let you talk to your assistant by raising your wrist (APK teardown)

Andy Walker / Android Authority TL;DR Raise to Talk will let you summon a voice assistant with a flick of your wrist. Code related to the feature has been found in the leaked settings app from One UI Watch 8. The feature should be a part of Wear OS 6, which could be announced at The Android Show. Google I/O might not be until May 20, but Google's kicking things off today with The Android Show, where Google's announcing everything new that's coming to our operating system of choice. Wear OS 6 should be announced either at The Android Show or Google I/O proper, but thanks to an APK teardown, we may have found one of the upcoming features. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. Earlier this month, One UI 8 Watch leaked, which told us a lot about Samsung and Google's plans for smartwatches, as One UI 8 Watch will be based on Wear OS 6. Buried within the settings app APK from the leak, we found strings referencing a 'Raise to Talk' gesture. Code Copy Text Raise to talk The assistant you choose will also be used when you press and hold the Home button if you haven't already chosen to show the Power off menu. Raise your wrist toward your mouth and start talking. The AI assistant you choose will respond. The AI assistant won't respond if sound is playing on the watch speaker, if the microphone is being used, such as during a call or voice recording, if health data is being recorded, or if the screen doesn't turn on when you raise your wrist. This isn't the first time we've seen mention of Raise to Talk. In April, we found references to it within Google app v16.14.39 beta. However, there wasn't much there, and we couldn't determine if this feature would be released for existing Wear OS versions or require an update. Now that we've found code for it in the Wear OS 6 settings app, we can be sure it'll need that version of Wear OS to function. The code here gives us some ideas about how this will work. The second string tells us that this will work alongside using the power button to summon your assistant, while the fourth string says this feature won't activate if you're recording health data, if the screen doesn't switch on when you raise your wrist, or if the speaker/mic is being used. What's most interesting is the third string, which says 'the AI assistant you choose will respond.' In the context of Samsung's watches it could indicate that Raise to Talk will work for Bixby, and not just Google Assistant/Gemini. Do you use voice assistants on your smartwatch? Would Raise to Talk make you more likely to? Let us know in the comments. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Your Samsung Galaxy Watch might get significantly smarter with next update

Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra alongside its folding phones in July last year, and with them came a number of clever software features, including offering you an Energy Score every morning based on a collection of metrics. A number recent reports from Android Authority based on several APK teardowns suggest Samsung's smartwatches could be in for a treat in the coming months when the rumored One UI 8 Watch update lands, however. Recommended Videos There are three separate reports revealing a breakdown of features that may appear on the Galaxy smartwatches, with the most prevalent being One UI 7's Now Bar making its way over from Galaxy phones. According to the teardown from a leaked version of the SecClockWorkSysUI (version 4.0.57) APK, Android Authority found strings of code suggesting Samsung is tailoring the Now Bar for the smartwatch interface. The report claims the Now Bar on the Galaxy Watch could land as a simple icon, or a more comprehensive display showing both an icon and text when the screen is on. It's said the Now Bar might be a widget system showing contextually aware data without you needing to navigate away from the main watch face, with information like Media Controls, the Now Brief and live sports scores, as well as Maps appearing. It was also suggested that gesture-based actions will allow you to double pinch in order to open the Now Bar on your Galaxy Watch, which we presume will work in a similar way to how double pinching on Apple Watch allows you to perform certain actions like starting a workout or accepting a call. What else might One UI 8 Watch bring to your Samsung smartwatch? In a separate report, Android Authority found a code string in the Battery app (version 4.0.00.8) for Galaxy Watch that suggests Samsung is working on introducing a battery protection feature to its wearables too. If true, it could see a charging limit of a certain percentage, like 80 per cent, to protect the overall battery life. Lastly, there's also a report suggesting there could be some new watch face features coming with One UI 8 Watch too. Android Authority suggests Samsung could be working on new options for watch faces on Galaxy Watches, as well as the ability for users to set favorite faces and randomize which one is active. Sadly, the teardown didn't see anything for automating that randomization, but it did indicate there may be some scope for recommending new watch face options based on the ones you have already selected as your favorites. For now, none of these features are confirmed by Samsung to be coming to Galaxy Watch models, but if any of them are true, it looks like One UI 8 Watch could be an exciting update.

Major Samsung Galaxy Watch One UI 8 leak just tipped three big upgrades

(Image credit: Future) Samsung is reportedly launching One UI 8 this summer for its smartphone devices, but wearables won't be left behind. Earlier this week, leaker DevOfIpos revealed a number of One UI 8 features including an improved DeX. They also apparently found firmware for One UI 8 Watch and posted some their findings on X. It looks to be a fairly substantial update for Samsung's Galaxy smartwatches. You may like For starters, Samsung appears to be skipping versions 6.5 and 7 and heading straight to version 8. Part of the leap includes new icons with the rounder style that Samsung introduced in One UI 7 for its handsets. (Image credit: DevOfIpos) They also posted that Google's Gemini AI bot is replacing Google Assistant in the One UI 8 Watch update. It's been expected that Gemini will make its way into Wear OS, and it looks like Wear OS 6 will be the first inkling of that. Reportedly, Gemini is functionally the same app as Assistant. As part of the leak, APKs from the update were also put up by Ipos, which Android Authority went through. If you're interested in the code, they beak down APKs on a regular basis. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. On a simpler level, the APKs reveal strings that hint at how Gemini will work, which seems a lot like how Assistant currently operates but with new AI tools. The code has "Gemini Actions" listed, which include standard Gemini features like email summarization, managing calendar events or getting weather updates via queries. Antioxidant Index (Image credit: Android Authority) Beyond Gemini, the APKs also revealed a new "antioxidant index" in the Samsung Health app. This measurement would allegedly measure beta carotene levels in your skin. You would need to press that pad of your thumb against the back of your watch to trigger the measurement. This feature is supposed to help you tailor your nutrition based on its measurements. Interestingly, one of the code strings reads, "'Keep in mind that antioxidant index measurement is for fitness and wellness only, not for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. If you're concerned about your antioxidant level, be sure to see a medical professional.'" The APKs apparently held some images showcasing how this feature will work. Google's annual developers conference, Google I/O 2025 is coming up at the end of the month and we expect to hear more about Wear OS 6 then, which One UI 8 Watch will be based on. From there, Samsung should launch its Galaxy Watch 8 series of smartwatches, likely in July alongside One UI 8 and its foldable phones the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Samsung may be planning an unusual move for its next Galaxy Watch update

Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung might skip over the One UI 7 Watch update and go straight to One UI 8 Watch. The company is reportedly planning this to match its smartwatch software with that of its phones. One UI 8 is expected to be released in beta form next month. It's unclear whether One UI 8 Watch will be based on Wear OS 6 or Wear OS 5.1. Samsung just rolled out One UI 7, and naturally, Galaxy Watch owners have been expecting an upgrade too. Samsung is currently running One UI 6 Watch based on Wear OS 5 on its smartwatches, and One UI 7 Watch based on Wear OS 5.1 would have been the next step up. However, reports now indicate that Samsung may skip over this version entirely. According to X user IposDev and SamMobile's sources, Samsung will go directly from One UI 6 Watch to One UI 8 Watch. Yes, it seems the company is skipping a numbered version update for Galaxy Watches for the very first time. The company is apparently doing this to match its smartwatch software with that of its phones. You're probably wondering why Samsung won't release One UI 7 Watch in that case, since flagship Galaxy phones are finally running One UI 7. The answer may lie in the One UI 8 release timeline. Rumor has it that the Android 16-based One UI 8 update is right around the corner. In fact, Samsung is expected to begin beta trials for the software as soon as next month, with its stable version expected to roll out to flagship Galaxy phones in August or September. That's why it makes sense for Samsung to skip straight to One UI 8 Watch, aligning it with its phones, instead of releasing a One UI 7 Watch update that would only be relevant for a few months. So if you're a Galaxy Watch owner eagerly waiting for the Wear OS 5.1 update — which, by the way, is based on Android 15 — you might need to wait a little longer. If the reports are true, Samsung may hold off on releasing Wear OS 5.1 until it launches One UI 8 Watch, which is expected to debut with the Galaxy Watch 8 in July. What would make more sense is if Samsung launched One UI 8 Watch based on Wear OS 6, which in turn should be based on Android 16. The company has teased an innovative new design and enhanced health-related features for the upcoming Galaxy Watch refresh.
