Shawn Mendes announces new On The Road Again Tour

Shawn Mendes is going on tour. After performing in South America and Puerto Rico earlier this year, the "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" singer announced Thursday that he will be hitting the road again for his "On the Road Again" world tour, which begins in August. Ahead of the first official date Aug. 5 in Poland, Mendes will make a stop at the Sunny Hill Festival in Kosovo on Aug. 2. The festival was founded by Dua Lipa and her father, and she'll be performing as well. The tour will feature Mendes marking 10 years since his debut album with a career-spanning set featuring all his biggest hits from the past decade. In a press release Thursday, Mendes said in a statement, "I feel like time away has allowed me to come back and recognize and remember how unbelievably special it is to get to play live shows. It's an honor and I'm just beyond grateful that you guys keep showing up after 10 years with so much love." The North American dates start Sept. 25 in Boston and will include stops in Toronto, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Opening those shows will be Eddie Benjamin, whom Mendes described as an "unbelievably talented and humble human being & my brother" in an Instagram post. In Europe, Mendes will be joined by artists MARO and Lubiana. "I came across Maro's music a few years ago and she immediately became one of my favourite artists," Mendes wrote in his Instagram post. "To be honest, I'm pretty beside myself that she'll be joining us. Same with Lubiana, she blows me away and just embodies everything as an artist I stand behind." Various presales start June 4 at 10 a.m. local time. The general sale begins June 6 at 10 a.m. local time. Mendes did an intimate tour of smaller venues last fall, billed as For Friends and Family Only, to promote his most recent album, "Shawn." He previously canceled his 2022 Wonder Tour after just seven dates, announcing at the time that he needed to prioritize his mental health.

The Real Reason Why Willie Nelson Celebrates Two Birthdays

Willie Nelson celebrates his 92nd birthday this year, and some fans might be surprised to learn that the "On the Road Again" singer actually has two birthdays. Willie was born in 1933 in Abbott, Texas, a small town about 25 miles north of Waco. His actual birthday is April 29, but, because he was born so late at night, the country clerk wasn't able to record it. So, on paper, his birthday is April 30. Willie explained, "I was born before midnight on the 29th but it didn't get registered in the county courthouse until the next day, the 30th. So, it went out officially as the 30th. So I just do both days." In case you're wondering, Willie is showing no signs of slowing down. His 77th studio album, Oh What a Wonderful World, was released on April 25, and his Outlaw Festival tour kicks off in May for the 10th year. This time, Willie will be joined by Bob Dylan, Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Sheryl Crow, Turnpike Troubadours, The Avett Brothers, Wilco, and more. Plus, he's bringing back his 4th of July Picnic in Austin, Texas. With a storied career like Willie's, it's certainly worth a double celebration! We're looking forward to seeing what's next for the country icon. Timeframe: When One Direction lit up Dubai in 2015

A decade ago, the UAE was swept up in boyband fever. At the heart of it was none other than One Direction – arguably the biggest band in the world at the time. On April 4, 2015, they brought their stadium–conquering world tour to Dubai's Sevens Stadium, for their first and only performance in the region. With the announcement coming no less than 11 months before the gig, it set the scene for a global scramble for tickets – much of it involving the cajoling of parents to cough up the dirhams for what their children would come to see as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not that the adults minded. In a 2015 article published by The National before the concert, we interviewed Dubai families using the prospect of One Direction tickets as a handy bargaining tool to get home chores done. The only problem, as Firdaus Sukhi wryly noted, was whether she would lose all her influence over her two daughters the moment the band stepped on to that Dubai stage. 'I'm worried about what I will do from now on because this was my best way to blackmail my daughters,' she said. 'I've been saying, 'If you don't study, you can't go for One Direction. If you don't clear your cupboard, I won't let you go for One Direction'.' Then again, Ms Sukhi deserved kudos simply for getting the tickets in the first place. With all 30,000 selling out in 22 days, The National also reported how some were being resold online for up to four times their face value – with prices reaching Dh3,000. Some of those who may have felt justifiably smug for landing tickets early weren't spared the expenses that followed. In February – two months before the show – fans flocked to Dubai Mall, where the band's exclusive pop–up merchandise shop had opened. On offer were 36 items, ranging from hoodies and tote bags to phone covers and key rings – the kind of gear that reportedly netted One Direction an estimated $67.5 million (Dh248 million) in annual merchandise sales. With tickets sold out and the pop-up store doing brisk business, all that was left was for One Direction to bring the show home. But their On the Road Again tour hit a career–defining bump when Zayn Malik left the tour after their Hong Kong show on March 18 – just over two weeks before their scheduled appearance in Dubai. What fans initially hoped was a temporary break turned into heartbreak when the band announced – a week later – that Malik had left the group permanently. The remaining members vowed that the show would go on, with Dubai becoming the third performance on the tour without Malik. The UAE fanbase – like many others – was devastated, with The National reporting about a teenager in Dubai who planned to launch a '1D Day' in solidarity with the band. As part of the initiative, fans attending the concert were encouraged to wear neon colours and use different coloured torch lights to beam during specific songs in the set. Meanwhile, concert promoter Thomas Ovesen from Done Events sought to ease any anxiety surrounding the show, stating that Malik's omission would be only a temporary setback to what would ultimately unfold on stage. 'I am still putting on a One Direction show,' he said. 'The only difference is that they are now a four-piece rather than a five-piece. The biggest challenge for that show would be for the fans – particularly those who are very emotionally invested in the band – to adjust to the fact there are now four members. That is a big thing for some, but for me it makes no difference.' And in many ways, he was right. One Direction's Dubai show was a study in professionalism – delivering a nearly two-hour set spanning 23 songs beginning with new tracks Clouds and Steal My Girl, and ending with the mega-hit Best Song Ever. After the show, the band members' have returned to the UAE separately, to mixed receptions. The late Liam Payne returned to Dubai for his largest solo show at Global Village in 2018. Niall Horan's comeback was limited to rounds of golf at the Dubai Desert Classic, while Malik cancelled his planned solo show in 2016 as part of continuing efforts to focus on his health. Despite the setbacks and personal challenges, One Direction's UAE concert fulfilled the dreams of many fans – and offered a warm, welcoming stage as the band began the next phase of their careers.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid stars in Skechers Hands Free Slip-ins commercial

The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans this Sunday for their third consecutive Super Bowl title. Head coach Andy Reid leads the team as he tries to add to his impressive coaching legacy. Reid recently starred in his first commercial for Skechers. Reid shines in a hilarious new commercial for Skechers Hands Free Slip-ins, which shows off his acting and unique modeling skills. 'I'm a no-nonsense football guy who needs everything around me to be easy so I can just focus on the game—especially when it's for the championship,' said Reid in a statement. 'These Skechers Hands Free Slip-ins have made my routine quicker and easier. No one wants to go into overtime just because of their shoes, and best of all they give me time to focus on my second career that you'll see in my first commercial for Skechers!' Reid joins other notable past celebrity ambassadors for the Skechers Big Game commercials, including Snoop Dogg in a spot that also featured Martha Stewart, Howie Long, and Tony Romo; Mark Cuban with a French bulldog named Mr. Quiggly; Willie Nelson singing 'On the Road Again'; and last year's ad featuring Mr. T and Tony Romo adding the 't' in Skechers. The big game advertisement is another feather in the future Pro Football Hall of Famer's cap as he prepares Kansas City for making league history.
