City given nighttime economy award for third year in a row
Southampton has been awarded Purple Flag status for the third year in a row.
The city was recognised by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM) for its commitment to night-time safety.
The Purple Flag award is given to cities that create a "dynamic, secure, and vibrant" evening and night-time economy.
The ATCM praised Southampton for its "fantastic" street pastors, strong engagement with the universities, and the "great awareness and strong partnership approach" demonstrated by the Op Defender briefings.
Jade McCauley, operations manager at GO! Southampton, said: "Securing Purple Flag status for a third year in a row is a real honour for us and we are thrilled to be a part of this incredible achievement."
Southampton Chief Inspector at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, Chris Douglas, said: "Myself and my officers are really proud that the city has been awarded Purple Flag status once again."
The city first achieved Purple Flag status in 2023.
