MIRI (May 9): The marine police detained a boat and tanker lorry in the process of transferring diesel at the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) jetty in Kuala Baram here on Monday. Marine Police Force Region 5 Sarawak commander ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan said the shipmaster and lorry driver were also held during Op Taring Landai for failing to produce any documented proof of authorisation from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). 'Further checks found that both the lorry driver and the shipmaster, both of whom are local citizens, failed to produce any documented proof of authorisation to possess or store or transport controlled goods without a permit or special approval from KPDN. 'As a result of the raid, the authorities seized one boat, one tanker lorry, and approximately 24,000 litres of diesel fuel,' he said in a statement today. The total estimated value of the seizures was approximately RM10.252 million. Ab Rahman said the arrests and seizures were made under the Supply Control Act 1961 and the case is being investigated by KPDN. Additionally, he said the shipmaster also committed offences under the Sarawak Rivers Ordinance 1993 for operating without a qualified Master/KED and failure to produce a River Transport Permit during inspection, as well as offences under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1960 for operating without a boat licence and operating without a chief engine driver. He explained that cases under the Sarawak Rivers Ordinance 1993 have been referred to SRB, while those under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1960 were referred to the Marine Department Malaysia for further action. The police, especially Marine Police Region 5 Sarawak, welcome all forms of information and cooperation from the public, and strongly encourage tip-offs to help combat crime effectively. Those found guilty under the Supply Control Act 1961 (Section 21): Possessing/Storing/ Transporting Controlled Goods Without Permit/Licence/special approval from KPDN may be punished with imprisonment, a fine, or both.

KOTA BHARU:The Region Three Marine Police Force (PPM) seized 350,000 sticks of white cigarettes believed to have been smuggled during a special operation on the banks of Sungai Mak Neralang on Monday (May 5). Commander ACP Zulafendy Hassan said the seizure took place at 1.30 am when a team of officers and personnel from the PPM Pengkalan Kubor operations headquarters was conducting Op Taring Landai/Op Khas Kontraban Series 55/2025 in the area. He said the team spotted several individuals acting suspiciously near the riverbank and rushed to the location, but the suspects managed to escape. "An inspection at the site uncovered several piles of black plastic bags containing cartons of white cigarettes, all without valid import permits,' he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 6). He added that the seized items, including unpaid taxes, are estimated to be worth RM693,000 and are believed to have been smuggled in for distribution on the local market. Zulafendy said that after waiting for about 30 minutes at the scene, no individual came forward to claim ownership of the contraband. As a result, all seized items were transported to the PPM Pengkalan Kubor operations headquarters for further action. "The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967 and has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Division at the Tumpat district police headquarters,' he said. He added that PPM Region Three remains committed to combating cross-border crimes that threaten the country's economic stability. TUMPAT: The marine police seized 350,000 sticks of illicit cigarettes worth approximately RM693,000 in a raid here yesterday. Marine Police Third Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Zulafendy Hassan, said the seizure was made near the Mak Neralang river in Kok Keli. A marine team was conducting its Op Taring Landai in the area when they spotted several individuals behaving suspiciously near the riverbank, he said. "The team was passing through the area at about 1.30am when they noticed the group. However, the men fled the scene upon seeing the officers approaching the riverbank. "After searching the area, the marine team discovered a pile of black plastic bags containing boxes of white cigarettes. "The 350,000 sticks of cigarettes are believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country," he said in a statement. He added that the seized items were later brought back to the marine police operations base in Pengkalan Kubor for further action. The case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tumpat police. It is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967. Zulafendy also said that the marine police would continue efforts to combat cross-border crime, which threatens the nation's economic stability. Sabah Marine Region Four Commander, ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim in a statement said, while conducting Op Taring Landai, the Marine apprehended a Four Wheel Drive (4WD) that believed attempted to smuggle subsidized oil. 'The team detained the driver and seized goods estimated worth RM122,469.96. 'The case would be investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961,' he said. Mohd Nazri in his statement also disclosed that the Kudat Marine has apprehended a boat near Laut Mangsee Reef. The team detained the boat skipper as believed possessing invalid documents. He said, following an inspection on Merak Hati jetty, the Marine nabbed 14 foreign workers for possessing invalid documents. 'All the foreigners were handed over to the Crime Investigation Division of Kudat Police Headquarters for further action. 'Both cases were investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63,' he added. Authorities dismantle unlicensed e-waste site in Johor, seize RM71.5m worth of materials, says state police chief

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — Police uncovered an illegal e-waste storage and processing facility in Johor, believed to be handling imported e-waste, and seized materials worth RM71.5 million during an operation on Friday. Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said the special operation, Op Taring Landai, was led by the Marine Police Force's intelligence unit in collaboration with the state Department of Environment (DoE) and the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB), the New Straits Times reported. Authorities raided three factories in Mukim Plentong, Desa Cemerlang, and Ulu Tiram during the operation, which began at 6am. 'Among the items seized were 1,369 jumbo bags containing various types of metals, including iron, tin, copper, and automotive, electronic and plastic components, with an estimated weight of 2,379 tonnes,' he said in a statement today. Officers also confiscated 47 machines and processing equipment, 28 pallets of metals weighing 22.4 tonnes, 19 tanks containing automotive components and iron powder weighing 41 tonnes, and 13 piles of iron and automotive components weighing 55 tonnes. Additionally, police seized 10 gas cylinders, three mobile phones, two iron tongs, one iron furnace and an aluminium basket containing automotive components weighing two tonnes. Kumar said two foreign workers at the premises were arrested. The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and several provisions of the Environmental Quality Act 1974, including Section 18(1), Section 19 and Section 13(A)(6). Authorities are also probing the facility under MBJB's Business and Industrial Licensing By-Laws 2016, Regulations 3(1) and 50(1), for operating without a valid licence. 'The police stress that the processing of waste materials without a licence is not only illegal but can also pose a threat to the environment and public health,' Kumar said.
