Attempt to smuggle subsidised cooking oil foiled

Sabah Marine Region Four Commander, ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim in a statement said, while conducting Op Taring Landai, the Marine apprehended a Four Wheel Drive (4WD) that believed attempted to smuggle subsidized oil. 'The team detained the driver and seized goods estimated worth RM122,469.96. 'The case would be investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961,' he said. Mohd Nazri in his statement also disclosed that the Kudat Marine has apprehended a boat near Laut Mangsee Reef. The team detained the boat skipper as believed possessing invalid documents. He said, following an inspection on Merak Hati jetty, the Marine nabbed 14 foreign workers for possessing invalid documents. 'All the foreigners were handed over to the Crime Investigation Division of Kudat Police Headquarters for further action. 'Both cases were investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63,' he added. Russian general seriously wounded on front line, regional leader says
(Reuters) -General Esedulla Abachev, deputy commander of Russia's Northern group of forces, has been seriously wounded on the front line of the war with Ukraine, a senior official said on Monday. Abachev comes from Russia's Dagestan region, whose leader Sergei Melikov said on Telegram that he was in a serious but stable condition in "one of the best military medical centres in the country". Ukrainian military intelligence said on Sunday that Abachev had an arm and a leg amputated after being wounded in a Ukrainian strike on a Russian military column on a highway in the Kursk region of western Russia, and that he was being treated in Moscow. Reuters could not confirm those details. At least a dozen Russian generals have been killed in the war that started with Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Abachev graduated from the Higher Tank Command School in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv when Ukraine was still part of the Soviet Union, which collapsed in 1991. He received the Gold Star of the Hero of Russia for his role in combat missions during the current war. Dagestani leader Melikov said he was the pride of the region, describing him as "a combat general and a wise commander who always tries to protect his personnel, sometimes neglecting his own safety". Cops probing viral video of woman jumping from vehicle

Brickfields police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the video, uploaded on the Facebook account of a Lion Wong, shows a woman exiting a speeding vehicle on the highway. 'The woman fell onto the road and was nearly hit by several vehicles,' he said, adding that police have not received any report regarding the incident. Beware attempts by certain quarters to undermine national unity, PM cautions

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, stressed that every issue in the country must be addressed responsibly, as Malaysia is a nation governed by clear laws. Citing the Jalur Gemilang issue as an example, he said the government would not protect anyone found guilty of misconduct and that appropriate action would be taken against them. 'This is a nation of laws, with its own rules. That is why I established the Ministry of National Unity, because I believe political stability is essential for the country. 'A nation must be taught, and must learn from the experiences of others. No country in the world can remain safe when racial or religious hatred is allowed to grow,' he said during the 'Temu Anwar@Multimedia University (MMU)' programme here today. He was responding to a student's question on the government's efforts to implement the national unity agenda and combat racism at its roots. Anwar, meanwhile, praised the awareness shown by the younger generation and commended students for their awareness of the importance of unity and solidarity in building a progressive and successful nation. 'This growing awareness among youths gives us hope that this nation can be rebuilt on stronger foundations. 'With such positive attitudes among young Malaysians, the future of our unity looks promising. Still, we must remain cautious, for there are always those who will attempt to provoke and divide,' he said. Anwar cited the case of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir, whose death was manipulated by certain quarters to suggest government negligence. 'If the case involves murder or bullying, it does not matter whose child is involved… we will investigate thoroughly and prosecute. But do not accuse us of trying to conceal the truth. 'What reason would we have to cover up for anyone? If you commit a criminal offence, it makes no difference who you are. If you are guilty, you face the punishment.
